Most active plants are toxic at high doses and it is therefore important to investigate the preliminary toxicity of plant extracts. The Rourea induta species is a potential drug with no phytochemical or biological studies registered in the literature. Thus, a phytochemical study and a toxicity analysis of the ethanolic extract obtained from the leaves of Rourea induta Planch., Connaraceae, was run. A long chain hydrocarbon, n-tetracosane, and four flavonoids were identified: quercetin, and three glycosylated derivates, quercetin-3-O-α-arabinofuranoside, quercetin-3-O-β-xyloside and quercetin-3-O-β-galactoside. This is the first time these have been isolated in this species. The structures were elucidated by 13 C NMR, 1 H NMR, UV and IR spectroscopy. The toxicity evaluation of extracts was performed by the brine shrimp method and determination of hemolytic activity. The samples demonstrated no toxic potential by the analyzed methods. A maioria das plantas ativas é tóxica em doses elevadas, portanto, é importante a investigação da toxicidade preliminar dos extratos das plantas. A espécie Rourea induta é uma droga potencial que não apresenta estudo fitoquímico ou biológico descrito na literatura. Assim, um estudo fitoquímico e análises toxicológicas foram realizados com o extrato etanólico obtido das folhas de Rourea induta Planch., Connaraceae. Foram obtidos um hidrocarboneto de cadeia longa, n-tetracosano, e quatro flavonóides, quercetina e três derivados glicosilados, quercetina-3-O-α-arabinofuranosideo, quercetina-3-O-β-xilosideo e quercetina-3-O-β-galactosideo. Esta é a primeira vez que estes compostos são isolados nesta espécie. As estruturas foram elucidadas por espectroscopia de RMN-13 C, RMN-1 H, ultravioleta e infravermelho. A avaliação da toxicidade dos extratos foi analisada pelo método da Artemia salina e atividade hemolítica. This study evaluated some biological activities of the leaves from Rourea induta Planch., Connaraceae. Fractions of the ethanolic extract from leaves of this species were obtained by liquid/liquid partition and their antibacterial, allelophatic and antioxidant activities were analyzed. By the agar diffusion method the ethyl acetate, chloroform fractions and hyperin showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis with an inhibition halo of 15.0, 12.3 and 9.3 mm respectively, and Staphylococcus aureus with 7.6 mm for the fractions. For antioxidant activity all samples have demonstrated a significant potential, especially the chloroform, ethyl acetate fractions and the hyperin which IC50 were, 5.33 ±0.19; 3.21 ± 0.00 and 3.89 ± 0,02 respectively. This result is close to the standards vitamin C and rutin. In the allelopathic activity the hexane fraction at 0.8 mg and 0.4 mg, inhibited 33.24% and 20.54% the hipocotyl's growth of Lactuca sativa seeds, and the compound tetracosane inhibited 18.05% the hipocotyl's growth at 0.4 mg. The obtained results stimulate the continuity of this study.

Background. Byrsonima is a promising neotropical genus, rich in flavonoids and triterpenes, with several proven pharmacological properties. Nevertheless, Byrsonima duckeana W. R. Anderson is an Amazonian species almost not studied. Objective. To assess the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic activities of Byrsonima duckeana leaves. Materials and Methods. We analyzed an ethanol extract and its fractions for polyphenol content and UHPLC-MS/MS, phosphomolybdenum, DPPH, TBARS antioxidant tests, formalin-induced pain, carrageenan-induced peritonitis, acetic acid-induced abdominal writhings, and hot plate assays. Results. All the samples showed high polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity in the phosphomolybdenum, DPPH, and TBARS tests. We identified ethyl gallate, quinic acid, gallic acid, catechin, epicatechin, quercetrin, and quercetin in the samples. B. duckeana was able to reduce leukocyte migration in the carrageenan-induced peritonitis by 43% and the licking time in the formalin test by 57%. In the acetic acid-induced writhing test, the chloroform (FCL) and ethyl acetate (FEA) fractions were the most active samples. FEA was selected for the hot plate test, where all the dosages tested (5, 50, and 200 mg·kg−1) showed significant analgesic activity. Conclusion. B. duckeana has interesting analgesic and antioxidant activities, due to its high phenolic content, especially phenolic acids.

Atualmente a obesidade é tratada como um problema de saúde pública que pode levar a uma série de outras patologias. Ela vem sendo objeto de estudo no mundo todo, e várias causas podem ser consideradas, como alimentação rica em gorduras, inatividade física, alterações endócrinas, causas genéticas e patologias secundárias.  Neste contexto vários produtos são lançados no mercado com o objetivo de combater a obesidade, quando são inseridos profissionais da saúde para realizar o acompanhamento dos tratamentos, dentre eles o farmacêutico, que possui papel fundamental nas farmacoterapias realizadas por pacientes obesos, uma vez que os tratamentos podem alterar outras funções fisiológicas.

RESUMO:Dasyphyllum tomentosum (Spreng.) Cabrera, açucará ou espinho-de-agulha, pertence à família Asteraceae, a qual compreende muitas espécies com propriedades terapêuticas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar extratos e frações de folhas e de cascas do caule de D. tomentosum, com relação as atividade antioxidante, citotóxica e hemolítica em testes in vitro. Todas as amostras apresentaram atividade antioxidante pelo método de inibição de DPPH, com destaque para a fração acetato de etila obtida das folhas cuja atividade foi comparável à dos padrões ácido ascórbico e rutina. Com relação à redução do complexo fosfomolibdênio, observou-se que esta mesma fração foi semelhante somente a rutina enquanto a fração obtida das cascas do caule apresentou resultado superior. Não foi observada atividade citotóxica e hemolítica frente aos modelos utilizados com os extratos e frações. Os resultados obtidos demonstram o potencial antioxidante da espécie sem apresentar toxicidade.Palavras-chave: antioxidante, DPPH, fosfomolibdênio, hemolítica, Asteraceae.ABSTRACT: Antioxidant activity and preliminary toxicity of the extracts and fractions obtained from the leaves and stem bark of Dasyphyllum tomentosum (Spreng.) Cabrera. Dasyphyllum tomentosum (Spreng.) Cabrera, which belongs to the Asteraceae family, is well known for having many species with therapeutic properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the extracts and fractions from the leaves and stem bark of D. tomentosum with respect to the antioxidant, cytotoxic and hemolytic activity in in vitro tests. All samples showed antioxidant activity by the DPPH inhibition method, especially the ethyl acetate fraction obtained from the leaves, whose activity was comparable to that of standard ascorbic acid and rutin. Regarding the reduction of the phosphomolybdenum complex, we noted that this same fraction was only similar to rutin and the fraction obtained from the stem bark showed superior results. There was no cytotoxicity and hemolytic activity compared to the models used in the extracts and fractions. The results demonstrate the antioxidant potential of the species without showing toxicity.

RESUMO:O extrato, frações e substâncias isoladas das cascas de G. vellosii foram submetidos ao teste de bioatividade sobre A. salina. Os dados foram analisados pelo método Probitos e determinados os valores de DL 50 e 95% de intervalos de confiança. As amostras foram consideradas ativas quando DL 50 < 1000 µg.mL ABSTRACT:The extract, fractions and isolated substances of the barks from G. vellosii were submitted to the bioactivity test on A. salina. The data were analyzed by the Probitos' method and certain the values of DL 50 and 95% of trust intervals. The samples were considered active when DL 50 <1000 µg.mL , respectively. The results demonstrate the biotechnological potential of the species, because according to literature this bioessay can be used as previous evaluation of possible antitumoral activity.
