Antibacterial, allelopathic and antioxidant activity of extracts and compounds from Rourea induta Planch. (Connaraceae)

Abstract: This study evaluated some biological activities of the leaves from Rourea induta Planch., Connaraceae. Fractions of the ethanolic extract from leaves of this species were obtained by liquid/liquid partition and their antibacterial, allelophatic and antioxidant activities were analyzed. By the agar diffusion method the ethyl acetate, chloroform fractions and hyperin showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis with an inhibition halo of 15.0, 12.3 and 9.3 mm respectively, and Staphylococcus … Show more

“…Other constituents of the Streptomyces Chy 4-10 extract detected by GC-MS are n-hexadecanoic acid, squalene and tetracosane [40]. Tetracosane acts as antioxidant [44] and squalene has antibacterial, antioxidant, antitumour, cancer preventive and immunostimulant activity [45].…”

“…Hydrocarbons including cyclotetradecane, tetradecane, pentadecane, hexadecane, heptadecane, and non-adecane are known for their antimicrobial activity and have been extracted from many medicinal plants (Ozdemir et al, 2004;Lin et al, 2012). Similarly, eicosane; heneicosane; tri-, tetra-, penta-, hexa-, hepta-, octa-, and docosane; and tetracosanoic acid compounds demonstrate antagonistic activities toward pathogens (Kalegari et al, 2012;Zhang et al, 2014). The levels of these compounds were significantly enhanced in SNP-treated plants.…”

“…Isolation from ethanolic leaves extract of Rourea induta yielded quercetin 1, and three glycosylated derivatives, quercetin-3-O-α-arabinofuranoside 2, quercetin-3-O-β-xyloside 3, and quercetin-3-O-β-galactoside 4 (Kalegari et al, 2011). Procyanidin C1 5 was isolated from the aqueous leaves extract (Kalegari et al, 2011;2014b;Oliveira et al, 2012;Ramiah et al, 1976;Zhang et al, 2008). of R. induta (Kalegari et al, 2014b).…”
