<span>Neste artigo analisa-se a oposição entre tradução naturalizadora e tradução identificadora, a partir de duas concepções divergentes. A primeira, veiculada por Campos (3), Rei<span>β</span> (12) e Vermeer (15), é de que a escolha entre uma ou outra direção seria ideologicamente neutra. A segunda, defendida por Venuti (13, 14) e Meschonnic (7), de que se trata de uma opção ideologicamente engajada. As relações feitas por Reiβ entre as duas direções de tradução e os conceitos de equivalência dinâmica e correspondência formal, propostos por Nida (11), são empregadas para problematizar a oposição e mostrar como a tradução é uma prática político-social relacionada ao imperialismo cultural - questão ocultada pelas teorias de tradução tradicionais.</span>
