High rates of vitamin D deficiency in Pakistan despite high levels of sunshine and previous Food Acts asking for food fortification with vitamin D. Public health strategies are needed to address high deficiency rates, including food fortification, i.e. nurture, alongside increasing exposure to sunlight, i.e. nature. This will involve all key stakeholder groups.
The highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) for organic-inorganic perovskite solar cells based on lead is reported as 25.2% in 2019. Lead-based hybrid perovskite materials are used in several photovoltaics applications, but these are not highly favored due to the toxicity of lead and volatility of organic cations. On the other hand, hybrid lead-free double perovskite has no such harm. In this research study, SCAPS numerical simulation is utilized to evaluate and compare the results of perovskite solar cell based on double perovskite FA 2 BiCuI 6 and standard perovskite CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 as an active layer. The results show that the power conversion efficiency obtained in the case of FA 2 BiCuI 6 is 24.98%, while in the case of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 , it is reported as 26.42%. This indicates that the hybrid organic-inorganic double perovskite FA 2 BiCuI 6 has the ability to replace hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 to expand next-generation lead-free harmless materials for solar cell applications.
Er-doped aluminum nitride films, containing different Er concentrations, were obtained at room temperature by reactive radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The prepared samples show a nano-columnar microstructure and the size of the columns is dependent on the magnetron power. The Er-related photoluminescence (PL) was studied in relation with the temperature, the Er content and the microstructure. Steady-state PL, PL excitation spectroscopy and time-resolved PL were performed. Both visible and near infrared PL were obtained at room temperature for the as-deposited samples. It is demonstrated that the PL intensity reaches a maximum for an Er concentration equal to 1 at. % and that the PL efficiency is an increasing function of the magnetron power. Decay time measurements show the important role of defect related non radiative recombination, assumed to be correlated to the presence of grain boundaries. Moreover PL excitation results demonstrate that an indirect excitation of Er 3+ ions occurs for excitation wavelengths lower than 600 nm. It is also suggested that Er ions occupy at least two different sites in the AlN host matrix.
The increase in global energy consumption and the related ecological problems have generated a constant demand for alternative energy sources superior to traditional ones. This is why unlimited photon-energy harnessing is important. A notable focus to address this concern is on advancing and producing cost-effective low-loss solar cells. For efficient light energy capture and conversion, we fabricated a ZnPC:PC70BM-based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and estimated its performance using a solar cell capacitance simulator (SCAPS-1D). We evaluated the output parameters of the ZnPC:PC70BM-based DSSC with different photoactive layer thicknesses, series and shunt resistances, and back-metal work function. Our analyses show that moderate thickness, minimum series resistance, high shunt resistance, and high metal-work function are favorable for better device performance due to low recombination losses, electrical losses, and better transport of charge carriers. In addition, in-depth research for clarifying the impact of factors, such as thickness variation, defect density, and doping density of charge transport layers, has been conducted. The best efficiency value found was 10.30% after tweaking the parameters. It also provides a realistic strategy for efficiently utilizing DSSC cells by altering features that are highly dependent on DSSC performance and output.
The fabrication, characterization, and CO2 gas detection performance of single component-based and hetero-nanostructure-based optical gas sensors are reported in the present work. Single component-based structures include (i) TiO2 thin films with varied film thickness (37.45 nm, 51.92 nm, and 99.55 nm) fabricated via the RF sputtering system for different deposition times and (ii) silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) deposited on the glass substrate by the wet chemical method. Hetero-nanostructures were achieved by decorating the AgNPs on the predeposited TiO2 thin films. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of prepared samples were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ellipsometry, respectively. XRD analysis of AgNPs confirmed the crystalline nature of prepared particles with average crystallite size of 21 nm, however, in the case of TiO2 films XRD results suggested amorphous structure of all as-deposited films. size 21 nm. The SEM micrographs confirmed the deposition of AgNPs on the TiO2 thin films. With increasing sputtering time, TiO2 films were found to be denser and more compact, indicating a reduced porosity and higher film thickness. CO2 gas-sensing properties were investigated by measuring the optical transmission spectra in alone air and in CO2 gaseous atmosphere at room temperature. It was observed that neither TiO2 thin films even with higher thickness nor alone AgNPs could demonstrate any substantial gas-sensing activity. Nevertheless, TiO2/AgNP hetero-nanostructured substrates exhibited excellent CO2 gas-sensing performance as indicated by a huge change in the transmission spectra. The enhanced sensing efficiency of TiO2/AgNP nanostructures owing to synergistic effects suggests a promising role of our manufactured sensors in practical applications.
