-The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of using microminerals in organic form on the performance and quality of eggs from commercial laying hens at the end of laying. Four hundred and eighty Hisex strain hens, 72 to 80 weeks of age, were used. A randomized complete design was used, with six replications and 16 birds for each experimental unit. Five diets were evaluated: basal feed supplemented with all microminerals in inorganic form (control); basal feed supplemented with 50% microminerals zinc (Zn) + manganese (Mn) + copper (Cu) in organic form and 50% in inorganic form; basal feed supplemented with 50% zinc in organic form and 50% in inorganic form; basal feed supplemented with 50% manganese in organic form and 50% in inorganic form; and basal feed supplemented with 50% copper in organic form and 50% in inorganic form. There was no effect of diets on egg production, feed intake, food conversion and egg shell percentage and thickness. Birds fed basal feed supplemented only with zinc or manganese in organic form produced eggs with lower specific weight. The use of basal feed supplemented with copper in organic form has minimized egg loss. However, the best results (lower egg loss, higher specific weight and higher weight of eggs) were obtained with the basal feed supplemented with microminerals Zn + Mn + Cu in organic form and, therefore, it is recommended for feeding of commercial laying at the end of laying.
This study aimed at evaluating live performance and carcass yield of broilers fed vegetarian diets or containing different animal byproduct meals after 8 days of age. In the experiment, 1080 one-day-old male chicks were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design with 6 treatments with 6 replicates. Diets were based on corn and soybean meal, and included or not animal meals, maintaining constant levels of minerals (calcium, phosphorus, and sodium) and amino acids (methionine, cystine, lysine, and threonine), The following treatments were applied: T1. Control (corn and soybean diet); T2. Inclusion of 5% meat and bone meal (MBM); T3. Inclusion of 5% blood meal (BM); T4. Inclusion of 5% feather meal (FM); T5. Inclusion of 5% poultry offal meal (OM); T6. Combination of meat and bone meal, feather meal, offal meal, and blood meal. Broiler weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, livability and carcass yield were evaluated. At 35 days of age, it was verified that the combination of the four animal meals compromised weight gain. Broiler performance at 42 days of age was influenced by treatments, and the worst weight gain and true feed conversion were observed in birds fed diets with the combination of the four animal meals. The inclusion of 5% BM negatively affected the weight gain. It is concluded that MBM, FM, and OM inclusion can be individually used with no negative influence on broiler performance or carcass yield. In addition, it reduces feed costs

SUMMARYThis work was carried out in order to evaluate the effects of supplemental carbohydrases individually (α-amylase) or associated with the enzyme complex (α-galactosidase, galactomananase, xylanase and β-glucanase) on performance, carcass yield and economic viability in diets for broiler. Were used 576 females chicks, Cobb lineage, distributed in a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 6 replicates of 24 birds each plot. The diets were formulated based on corn and soybean meal, and the treatments consisted of PC= positive control diet
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and carcass characteristics of broilers fed exclusively vegetable diets and diets containing animal meal with the addition of creatine or not after day 8. In the experiment, 1080 one-day-old male chicks were distributed according to a completely randomized experimental design into six treatments with six replicates each. A control diet based on corn and soybean meal was formulated, to which animal meals and creatine were included or not. Diets were formulated to contain equal mineral (calcium, phosphorus and sodium) and amino acid (available methionine + cystine, lysine and threonine) levels. The following treatments were applied: A. control (diet based on corn and soybean meal); B. control + creatine (600g/ton); C. inclusion of 5% meat and bone meal (MBM), D. inclusion of 5% MBM + creatine (600g/ton), E. inclusion of 5% blood meal (BM), F. inclusion 5% BM + creatine (600g/ton). Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, carcass yield and viability were evaluated. At 42 days of age, BM dietary inclusion impaired weight gain and feed conversion ratio. The inclusion of MBM affected only feed conversion ratio. The addition of creatine ito the diet with BM improved weight gain when compared with the BM diet with no creatine. The addition of creatine to the diet containing 5% BM improved weight gain when compared with the same diet without the use of the additive.
Conclui-se que qualquer fonte de óleo das utilizadas neste estudo pode ser adicionada à ração de galos reprodutores sem necessidade de elevados níveis de vitamina E.Termos para Indexação: Galos reprodutores, ácidos graxos essenciais, vitamina E. A total of 112 breeding roosters from 16 to 32 weeks of age were allotted to a randomized block design in a 3 x 2 + 1 factorial arrangement, with three sources of oil (soybean, canola and sunflower in 3%of inclusion ) and two levels of antioxidant (200 and 400 mg of vitamin E/kg of diet) and the control diet (without oil and 0 mg of supplementation of vitamin E). The experimental diets were made based on corn and soybean meal. At 28 and 29 weeks, semen collection was performed for evaluation of sperm motility, semen volume, concentration and number of total cells. At 29 weeks of age, semen collection was performed to evaluate sperm morphology, rate of osmotic resistance and heat-resistance of spermatozoa. Four roosters per treatment were slaughtered at 30 weeks of age for removal of the testes which were weighted and a sample was obtained for evaluation of the thickness of the seminiferous epithelium, diameter and the population of seminiferous tubule cells. Blood samplings were collected for evaluation of triglycerides and cholesterol. During the experimental period from 16 to 30 weeks , feed intake and total weight gain were evaluated. The true fertility test was performed at 32 weeks of age. The data were evaluated by analysis of variance using the SAEG program. Significant interaction (P<0.05) was found between sources of oil and the levels of vitamin E as well as among the sources of oils for total weight gain, seminiferous epithelium thickness and body weight at 30 weeks of age. Significant difference (P<0.05) was verified among the levels of vitamin E for the levels of triglycerides, choles...
ABSTRACTWith the aim of evaluating the effects of different photoperiods on the performance and semen characteristics in roosters of light strains, an experiment was carried out at Animal Science Department of the Universidade Federal de Lavras. A total of 24 roosters of the Lohman LSL strain (light), aged 19 weeks was used, they themselves being submitted to 3 treatments: 1) continuous photoperiod; 2) intermittent photoperiod and 3) growing natural photoperiod. The birds were housed in a shelter divided into 3 environments, so that the lighting of one did not interfere upon the other. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 8 replicates. The experimental unit being made up of 1 rooster. The experimental period lasted 20 weeks and the variables evaluated were: feed intake (g/bird/day), body weight (g), seminal volume (ml), spermatic motility (%) and vigor (0 to 5), spermatic concentration (number of cells x 10 9 ), number of total spermatic cells (NCT-volume x concentration) and spermatic morphology (alterations of head, tail and total alterations). The roosters submitted to continuous light showed increased feed intake (P<0,05), but didn t influence (P>0.05) of the photoperiods on the other variables. One concluded that the continuous photoperiods, intermittent or growing natural light may be utilized in open shelters for light roosters over the reproductive period without harming the semen characteristics.
Rações com sorgo devem conter 21,7% de proteína bruta para maior produção de ovos e 19,38% de proteína bruta para maior peso específico dos ovos.inforMation Cronología del artículo. sUMMarYThe objective of this research was to evaluate crude protein levels in corn or sorghum rations on performance and quality of Japanese quail eggs in the laying phase. We used 320 quails with an initial age of 14 weeks. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, with 2 foods (maize and sorghum) and 5 crude protein levels (16, 18, 20, 22 and 24%), totaling 10 treatments with 4 replicates and 8Birds per experimental unit. The performance and egg quality variables were evaluated. There was a quadratic effect of crude protein (CP) levels on feed intake, feed conversion per dozen and by mass, egg weight, albumen index and specific weight. The corn ration provided better marketable egg and egg production in relation to the sorghum ration when the CP level used was 16%. There was a quadratic effect of CP levels on the production of total and marketable eggs only of the birds that received feed with sorghum. It can be concluded that sorghum may substitute maize in Japanese quails. Sorghum feed should contain 21.7% crude protein for higher egg production and 19.38% crude protein for higher egg weight. additional keYwords Alternative food. Performance. Egg quality.
