O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da aplicação de concentrações do regulador de crescimento etil-trinexapac na altura de planta, no acamamento e na produtividade de grãos da cultivar de aveia-branca Barbarasul, em diferentes ambientes de cultivo e doses de nitrogênio. Os experimentos foram conduzidos nas safras 2010 e 2011 nos municípios de Capão do Leão e Augusto Pestana, no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, e nas safras 2010 e 2012 no Município de Lages, no Estado de Santa Catarina. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 4x2x6 (dose de etil-trinexapac, estádio de desenvolvimento da planta e ambiente), com quatro repetições constituídas por parcelas úteis de 3,0 m2. Em cada ambiente, realizou-se adubação nitrogenada com 30 e 90 kg ha-1 de N. Foram avaliados os caracteres altura de planta, percentagem de acamamento e produtividade de grãos. A aplicação do regulador de crescimento etil-trinexapac nas doses de 100 a 150 g i.a. ha-1 em plantas de aveia-branca 'Barbarasul', nos estádios E31 e E32, reduz a altura das plantas e a percentagem de acamamento, sem prejuízos à produtividade de grãos. A intensidade da redução do acamamento depende das características do ambiente de cultivo.

-The objective of this work was to characterize the chemical properties of white oat (Avena sativa) caryopsis and to determine the adaptability and stability of cultivars recommended for cultivation in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The trials were carried out in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 crop seasons, in three municipalities: Augusto Pestana, Capão do Leão, and Passo Fundo. Fifteen cultivars were evaluated in a randomized block design, with four replicates. The contents of protein, lipid, and nitrogen-free extract were evaluated in the caryopsis. Cultivar performances for the measured characters varied according to location and year of cultivation. The cultivar URS Guapa showed high content of nitrogen-free extract and low contents of protein and lipid in the caryopsis. 'FAPA Louise' showed high content of lipid, whereas 'Albasul', 'UPF 15', and 'UPF 18' showed high content of protein and low content of nitrogen-free extract. There is no evidence of an ideal biotype for the evaluated characters, which could simultaneously show high average performance, adaptability to favorable and unfavorable environments, and stability.Index terms: Avena sativa, bissegmented linear regression, lipid, nitrogen-free extract, nutritional quality, protein. The use of growth regulator in oats can reduce plant lodging with reflections in biomass and grain yield. The objective of the study was to determine the feasibility and efficiency of using Trinexapac-Ethyl regulator in the growth of white oat under different conditions of N-fertilizer and years favorable and unfavorable for cultivation. In this study, two experiments were conducted in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013, one for quantifying biomass production rate and the other for the determination of grain yield and lodging. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates, in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, for growth regulator doses (0, 200, 400 and 600 mL ha-1) and nitrogen doses (30, 90 and 150 kg ha-1), respectively. There is a linear reduction of biomass rate with the increase in the growth regulator dose in oat, regardless of the condition of year and use of N-fertilizer. The growth regulator dose of 495 mL ha-1 efficiently reduces lodging with reduced, high and very high use of N-fertilizer, without reducing the yield of oat grains, in favorable, intermediate or unfavorable year for cultivation.

resumo -A seleção de genótipos de cajueiro em progênies segregantes obtidas via hibridações artificiais representa em uma oportunidade de associação de genes favoráveis, herdados de genitores conhecidos. Adicionalmente, conhecer a dinâmica dos principais caracteres de interesse pode auxiliar na definição de estratégias eficientes para a obtenção de ganhos genéticos. Logo, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho produtivo e caracteres morfológicos de progênies de irmãos completos de cajueiro, conduzidas no município de Pacajus-CE, ao longo de três safras de cultivo, e estimar as correlações entre os caracteres de interesse. Nas safras de 2010, 2011 e 2012, foram avaliadas sete progênies de cajueiro em relação a caracteres morfológicos e produtivos. Os cruzamentos CCP 76 x BRS 226, CCP 76 x Embrapa 51 e BRS 226 x Embrapa 51 mostraram-se promissores na geração de genótipos superiores para caracteres de interesse agronômico. O porte da planta apresentou associações positivas com a produtividade de castanhas, e o número de castanhas por planta evidenciou forte correlação com a produtividade. Additionally, knowing the dynamics of the main characters of interest can help define effective strategies to obtain genetic gains. So, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of cashew full-sib progenies in relation to production and morphological characters, cultivated in the municipality of Pacajus-CE in three growing seasons, and to estimate the correlations among traits of interest. In the seasons of 2010, 2011 and 2012 were evaluated seven progenies of cashew in relation to morphological and productive characters. The crosses CCP 76 x BRS 226, CCP 76 x Embrapa 51 and BRS 226 x Embrapa 51 shown to be promising in generating superior genotypes for agronomic interest characters. The size of the plant showed positive associations with productivity of nuts, and the number of nuts per plant showed strong correlation with yield. So, it is important to emphasize the necessity to perform the selection seeking balance in relation to the performance on morphological and productive characters in order to obtain genotypes that combine high productivity of nuts and appropriate size of plant. index terms: Anacardium occidentale L., progeny, agronomic performance.

The E'AppleBP is the largest Brazilian apple breeding program in activity in Brazil, with Brazilian and international contributions to breeding of apple cultivars, under public funding. The main objectives are development of new apple cultivars with good local climate adaptation, disease resistance, high yield, high fruit quality, good fruit storability and lower demand for orchard hand labor. Twenty-seven apple cultivars have been released, including 15 from local breeding crosses and four sport mutations. 'Fuji Suprema', 'Monalisa', 'Venice', 'Daiane', 'Luiza', and 'Kinkas' are most promising for commercial use. The other eight cultivars were released for use as pollinizers.

Improvement of quality-related traits of grains is a constant concern in white oat breeding programs, which challenges breeders to understand their dynamics. The performance of different genetic combinations must be thoroughly evaluated to make high nutritional quality cultivars available. This study aimed to estimate the heterosis on F 1 and F 2 generations, vigor loss, due to inbreeding, and correlation between the grain chemical components to understand the dynamics of these traits, considering two segregating oat progenies. The populations Albasul × UPF 15 (population 1) and IAC 7 × UFRGS 19 (population 2) were developed. Both populations showed transgressive segregant individuals. The combination Albasul × UPF 15 provided significant heterosis for traits β-glucan total and soluble fiber contents, while the population obtained by crossing IAC 7 × UFRGS 19 generated significant gain by heterosis for total fiber, insoluble fibers and non-structural carbohydrate contents. Considering the F 2 average for each population, one can observe that population 1 presents higher β-glucan and lipid contents than population 2. On the other hand, population 2 has higher protein content than population 1. In both populations, the non-structural carbohydrate content is strongly and negatively correlated whith protein, total and insoluble fibers. Correlations between total fibers and lipids and between total fibers and insoluble fibers were both positive and high in both populations.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of RAPD and ISSR molecular markers to determine the genetic variability among cashew (Anacardium spp.) genotypes, and to indicate possible promising crosses based on cashew genetic variability and phenotypic performance. Ten hybrids - derived from the crosses CCP 76 x BGC 589, CCP 76 x BRS 226, CCP 76 x HAC 276-1, CCP 76 x Embrapa 51, CCP 76 x BRS 253, CCP 76 x HAC222-4, and BRS226 x Embrapa 51 - and their parents were assessed at the molecular level. The hybrids were evaluated for nut yield, mean nut weight, bored nuts, and powdery mildew on nuts (scale 0-4). The RAPD and ISSR markers were efficient in the determinaton of the genetic variability among cashew genotypes, allowing of the grouping of 21 clusters. Associated with the phenotypic characterization of cashew nut for yield, weight, and health, the used markers can efficiently identify possible combinations with higher genetic variability and higher probability of developing transgressive genotypes in segregating populations.
