Increasing corn grain production without devastating new forest areas is a viable alternative to controlling deforestation. However, increasing plant density in the area may alter plant morphophysiological and productive traits. The objective of this study was to characterize relationships between physiological, morphological and yield traits of corn plants, as well as the cause, effect and relationship of the traits on grain yield. The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design with four replications. The corn hybrids (2B655PW, AG7088PRO3 and P4285YHR) were grown with row spacing of 40 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm, 95 cm. The evaluated traits physiological were: net photosynthesis (PN), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular concentration of CO2 (Ci), leaf transpiration (E), water use efficiency (WUE) and carboxylation efficiency (CE). The morphological were: plant height (PH) and ear insertion height (EIH), stem diameter (SD), and leaf area (LA) and the productive traits were the total number of ear per hectare (NE), number of grains per ear (NGE), grain mass per ear (GME), 100 grain weight (100GW) and grain yield (GY). The characteristics of maize hybrids cultivated in environment with reduced spacing (40cm, 60cm, 80cm, 95cm) of the 2016/2017 crop were investigated through the multicollinearity path analysis. The physiological, morphological and productive traits are considered sources of variation of cause and effect of corn yield in reduced spaced. This traits are essential for observations in maize breeding programs to obtain high yielding varieties in reduced spacing. In conclusion, the physiological (PN, CE, WUE, Ci, Gs), morphological (EIH, SD, LA) and productive (NE, GME) traits provide gains in maize grain yield via indirect selection when the crop is subjected to 40 cm row spacing.
Genetic variability is the main characteristic when seeking to select promising genotypes for plant breeding. Thus, the objective of this work was to investigate the genetic variability in agronomic and morphological characteristics of traditional varieties of maize, in addition to determining the degree of association and the selection of variety and promising characters to be explored in programs of genetic breeding of Creole maize. The experiment was conducted at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), Rio Branco - Acre, in the 2017/2018 harvest period. A randomized block design was used, with five replications. The treatments were four varieties of Creole maize (V1, V2, V3 and V4) from the Vale do Juruá region and another hybrid cultivar LG 3040 (HI). The morpho-agronomic characteristics were evaluated in the useful area of the plots: days to silking (DS), days to anthesis (DA), plant height (PH) and height ear insertion (HEI), stem diameter (SD), mass of ear (ME), length ear (LE), diameter ear (DE), total grain mass (TGM), mass of 100 grain (M100G), grain moisture (GM) and grain productivity (GP). The data were subjected to analysis of variance and comparison of means. The values of genotypic and phenotypic variance were also estimated, heritability in the broad sense, selection accuracy, phenotypic, genotypic and environmental correlation, in addition to the principal component analysis (PCA). Variations in characteristics were found between the varieties of Creole maize and their interrelations, showing greater influence of ME, PH, TGM, M100G, DE and GP in the expression of the phenotype. Therefore, it is concluded that there is genetic variability in the characteristics evaluated, with emphasis to V4 that showed superior performance allowing direct selection of the characteristics SD, ME, TGM and M100G to be incorporated into an breeding program.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the interference of reduced spacing in the physiological and characteristics production components of maize hybrids (Zea mays L.). Four line spacings (95, 80, 60 and 40 cm) were tested using three commercial hybrids (H1, H2 and H3) in Senador Guiomard, Acre, Brazil. The experimental design of randomized complete blocks was used in subdivided plots. The experiment lasted four months, where the parameters measured were CO 2 assimilation and gas exchange, water use and carboxylation efficiencies and productivity. Reduction in spacing did not influence the photosynthesis, with slightly differences at stomatal conductance and transpiration. However, it was observed that the H3 presented higher efficiency of water use and carboxylation at the larger spacings. Moreover, there was an increase in the number of ears and grain yield per hectare in reduced spacing, with H3 plants presenting a superior mass of 100 grains among the cultivars. It is concluded that H3 (P4285YHR) presents essential physiological characteristics favouring yields at reduced spacings compared to crops requiring larger spacing. In addition, reduced spacing lines for the maize crop do not reduce atmospheric CO 2 assimilation, resulting in larger productivity per cultivated area among the three tested hybrids.

The study aimed to analyze the microbiological characteristics of water from artisanal wells in the municipality of Guajará in Amazonas, verifying the presence of Escherichia coli and total coliforms. The collections were carried out in residences in the center of the city in 10 points. COLItest Kits were used, which have substances, nutrients and MUG in their formulation that, properly balanced, inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, favoring the growth of bacteria from the coliform group and facilitating the identification of E. coli through fluorescence after incubation at 37 °C in 48 hours. In the qualitative analysis of the water, it was observed the presence of total coliforms in 80% of them and in 20% they presented absence of microorganisms. The samples that showed total coliforms, it was possible to observe that in 75% there was contamination by E. coli, representing a great risk to the health of those who consume water from these points without adequate treatment. However, measures for the preservation of water sources, the treatment of water for human consumption and the practice of using chlorine or boiling the water in the places where they were collected are necessary actions to reduce the occurrence of total coliforms and Escherichia coli.
