This compilation of ferns and lycophytes in Brazil is an update of the one published in 2010 in Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil. The methodology consisted in collecting data from regional checklists, taxonomic revisions, and selected databases. Invited specialists improved the list accessing a website housed at the Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro. The results show 1,253 species: 1,111 of ferns and 142 of lycophytes. This number is 6.5% higher than the previous one (1,176 spp.). The percentage of endemic species decreased from 38.2% to 36.7%. We recognized 36 families and 133 genera (vs. 33 families, 121 genera in 2010). The 10 most diverse families are Pteridaceae (196 spp.), Dryopteridaceae (179), Polypodiaceae (164), Hymenophyllaceae (90), Thelypteridaceae (86), Aspleniaceae (78), Lycopodiaceae (64), Selaginellaceae (55), Anemiaceae (51), and Cyatheaceae (45). The three most diverse genera are still Elaphoglossum (87 spp.), Thelypteris (85), and Asplenium (74). The richest phytogeographic domain continues to be in the Atlantic Rainforest with 883 species which also has the largest number of endemic and threatened species, followed by the Amazon Rainforest (503) ResumoEsta compilação de samambaias e licófitas do Brasil é uma atualização daquela de 2010, no Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil.
Palavras-chave: Pteridófitas, florística, Nordeste do Brasil, Pernambuco, brejo de altitude ABSTRACT -(Floristic survey of Pteridophytes in three forest fragments of a "brejo de altitude" (Bonito, Pernambuco, Brazil)). This work presents a floristic survey of the pteridophytes of the Mata da Colônia, Mata da Chuva and Mata da Reserva, in the municipality of Bonito (Pernambuco, Brazil). The place is a "brejo de altitude" (ca. 700-800m), whose vegetation is differentiated of the local typical Caatinga, conditioned mainly by the high altitude, geographical position and climatic aspects which are favorable to the development of the pteridophytes. Seventeen trips were done to the place with the purpose to collect and observe the species. About 400 samples of pteridophytes specimens were responsible to the improvement of herbaria collection. The study indicated the existence of 93 species and two varieties, distributed in 42 genera and 17 families. The most representative families were Polypodiaceae with 17 species and one variety, Thelypteridaceae and Pteridaceae, both with 11 species. The genus Thelypteris Schmidel presented the largest number of species, with nine (and one variety), followed by Asplenium L., with seven. Most of the species came as herbaceous, terrestrial and hemicryptophytes, inside of the forest. This pteridoflora presented expressive richness, with the registration of 12 new references for the State, which seven had not still been mentioned for the Northeast region of Brazil.
Based on an analysis of five plastid markers (atpA, atpB, rbcL, rps4‐trnS, trnL/trnL‐trnF), we show that Diplazium lechleri is sister to a clade formed by the Hemidictyaceae and Aspleniaceae. Thus, it does not belong to the Athyriaceae where previously classified. A new family, Desmophlebiaceae, and a new genus, Desmophlebium, are described to accommodate this relationship. Morphologically, Desmophlebium is distinguished from Diplazium by the combination of thick 1‐pinnate laminae, entire pinnae, decurrent distal pinnae, conform lamina apices (i.e., the terminal segment is similar to the lateral pinnae), and the presence of a submarginal connecting vein. On the basis of morphology, we also assign Diplazium longisorum to the new family and genus. Accordingly, the new combinations Desmophlebium lechleri and D. longisorum are provided. A lectotype is designated for Diplazium parallelogrammum, a synonym of Desmophlebium lechleri. Desmophlebium grows in humid forests from 125 to 1900 m. Desmophlebium lechleri occurs from Panama to north‐central and northeastern Brazil, and D. longisorum occurs in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Palavras-chave: Pteridófitas, restinga, floresta atlântica, biodiversidade, etnobotânicaABSTRACT -(Floristic analysis of the pteridophytes of the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park is located on the Northern coast of Rio de Janeiro State (municipalities of Macaé, Carapebus and Quissamã). There are 12 families, 21 genera and 32 species, with the following families present: Blechnaceae, Cyatheaceae, Davalliaceae, Dennstaedtiaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Gleicheniaceae, Lycopodiaceae, Polypodiaceae, Pteridaceae, Salviniaceae, Schizaeaceae and Thelypteridaceae. The most species-rich families are Pteridaceae (5 spp.) and Polypodiaceae (5 spp.). Nephrolepis, Polypodium and Thelypteris were the richest genera. Of the 32 species recorded for the area, 23 are terrestrial herbs, three are epiphytes, three are aquatics, two are arborescent and one is a hemiepiphyte. The periodically flooded forest was the richest in species and families; the beach thicket presented the lowest values. The fern flora of several areas of restinga on the Brazilian coast showed low similarity values; this is also true for restingas and Atlantic forest. Blechnum serrulatum and Polypodium triseriale are commonly found in areas of restinga. Of the 32 species studied, 17 have economic potential (medicinal, ornamental and food).
Fully contained within the Atlantic Forest Biome, the state of Rio de Janeiro represents one of the greatest areas of diversity of vegetation physiognomy, habitats and plant species, including endemics. The flora of Rio de Janeiro state is recognized as one of the richest in the country and the state as an important center of endemism. These features have encouraged diferent botanical studies, highligthing Vellozo, Cysneiros, Glaziou, Gardner, among others, as precursor naturalists in exploration native forests. It is presented physiographic features of the state and brief retrospective of the Flora of Rio de Janeiro state project, which began in 2001, and consolidated in 2007 with a checklist prepared and made available online, and in 2011, with the implantation of the Catálogo de espécies de plantas vasculares e briófitas da flora do estado do Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of over 150 participants working online. Currently 334 families, 1,821 genera and, 8,203 species, subspecies and varieties have been recorded to the state, 1,740 of which are endemic. We highlight the vegetation formations, municipalities, conservation unities, and families of angiosperms, bryophytes, ferns and lycophytes families most diverse, as well as comments about monographic treatments already published. This special volume of Rodriguésia dedicated to the flora of Rio de Janeiro state presentes 19 families with 76 species of Angiosperms -Aizoaceae, Alismataceae, Asparagaceae, Ceratophyllaceae, Cabombaceae, Haloragaceae, Hydrocharitaceae, Hydroleaceae, Juncaginaceae, Lentibulariaceae, Mayacaceae, Menyanthaceae, Molluginaceae, Myristicaceae, Nymphaeaceae, Pontederiaceae, Potamogetonaceae, Rhizophoraceae e Typhaceae. Key words: Angiosperms, Bryophytes, endemic, Gymnosperms, Lycophytes, Ferns.
