A total of 392 academicians working in different faculties of four state universities located in Ankara participated in the study. The data collection tools were "Organizational Cynicism Scale" developed by Brandes, Dharwadkar, and Dean (1999), and "Maslach Burnout Inventory" developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981). The data were analyzed by conducting t test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The construct validity of the scales used within the study was tested by confirmatory factor analysis, and as for the internal reliability, Cronbach alpha values were calculated. The Cronbach alpha value of the Organizational Cynicism Scale was calculated as .93, the Cronbach alpha value of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment sub-dimensions of Maslach Burnout Inventory were calculated sequentially as .88, .74 and .73. In the study, it was found that academicians had moderate levels of organizational cynicism, and low levels of burnout. The study also showed that there was a moderate, positive and statistically significant relationship between academicians' organizational cynicism attitudes and emotional exhaustion and depersonalization sub-dimensio...
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between democratic classroom management attitudes of teachers and critical thinking dispositions of students. The study group consisted of 530 students from public high schools located in Altındağ district of the province of Ankara. The data was collected with the use of "Democratic Classroom Management Scale" developed by Demirtaş (2004) and "Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory" developed by Akbıyık (2002) during the spring term of 2013-2014 academic year. The data were analyzed by conducting t test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analysis. In the study it was observed that students' views about teachers' democratic classroom management attitudes were at moderate level and their critical thinking dispositions were at high level. Furthermore, it was concluded that students' views regarding teachers' democratic classroom management attitudes and their critical thinking varied according to different variables. In the study, it was found that there was a low, positive and statistically significant relationship between the democratic classroom management attitudes of teachers and the critical thinking disposition of students. In addition, it was also founded that democratic classroom management attitudes of teachers was a significant predictor of the critical thinking disposition of students.
This paper examines the links between learning–centred leadership and student achievement through the mediating effect of teacher professional community and parental involvement. Using teacher and student survey data collected from 79 lower secondary Turkish schools in 12 provinces across the country in 2019, this study employs multilevel structural equation modelling. The findings of the current study add to the growing knowledge base in the non-western societies, revealing the impact of principals’ leadership on school processes and outcomes in Turkey. The study suggests that principals have a crucial role in improving student achievement by enhancing situations in which teachers work, namely, organisational and family paths. It suggests that principals’ leadership practices still matter for teacher professional community and parental involvement in non-western countries. Implications for policy, practice and further research are discussed.
ABSTRACT:The purpose of the present study is to examine the relationship between teachers' levels of believe in education and work engagement. The study, designed as a correlational research, has a total of 220 teachers working in various public schools. The participants were surveyed by the "Teachers' Levels of Believe in Education Scale" developed by Akın and Yıldırım (2015) and "Work Engagement Scale" developed by Schaufeli, Salanova, González-Romá and Bakker (2002) originally and translated into Turkish by Atilla-Bal (2008). The data were collected through spring semester of 2015-2016 academic years. The data were analyzed by conducting t test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. In the study it was observed that teachers' levels of believe in education were medium level and their work engagement perceptions were slightly above the middle level. Furthermore it was concluded that there was a low, positive and statistically significant relationship between teachers' levels of believe in education and work engagement. In addition, it was also founded that teachers' levels of believe in education was a significant predictor of work engagement perceptions of teachers. Keywords: believe in education, work engagement, teacher.
