It was used 3.960 fish with an average initial weight of 293.38 ± 5.67 g, distributed in 18 net-ponds with 5 m 3 , with 220 fish per experimental unit (44 fish/m 3 ) in a 3 × 2 factorial scheme composed of three levels of crude protein (25, 30 and 35%) and two levels of digestible energy (3,250 and 3,500 kcal/kg). Feeding was performed four times a day (9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.) until apparent satiety of the animals. No differences were observed for weight gain, survival rate, apparent feed conversion and specific growing rate. Nevertheless, there was a difference on visceral fat deposition which was higher for animals fed ration with higher energy level. It was not observed influence of levels of protein and energy of the diet in contents of moisture, crude protein, mineral matter and lipids in the fish fillets, either. Rations containing 25% of crude protein and 3,250 kcal/kg of digestible energy promote better performance results.
Densities of farming did not influence carcass yield, but they affected total length, which was higher in fish raised in low density, which did not differ from those raised in intermediate density. Fish raised in lower density showed the greatest lipid deposition, but they did not significantly differ from those stocked in intermediate density. Erythrocyte variables like total erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, average corpuscular volume, average corpuscular hemoglobin concentrations and average corpuscular hemoglobin did not present statistical differences among the used densities and they remain in the normal range for the species. Levels of glucose in the blood did not differ significantly among the analyzed densities. Stocking densities do not influence erythrocyte parameters, glucose level neither carcass yields of pacu fish. Density 200 fish/cage results in higher final weight and weight gain; however, it reduces productivity per area and increases lipid deposition of the fish.
This study was performed with the aim of determining the palatability of diets containing poultry and swine protein hydrolysates for Nile tilapia. Five experimental diets were made with a 5% inclusion level of fishmeal (FPE), poultry protein hydrolysate (PHF), liquid swine hydrolysate (PHS), feather protein hydrolysate (PHP), and swine mucosa hydrolysate (PHM). Five juveniles (2.81 ± 0.17 g) were placed in 10 L aquariums and fed five times a day after a raffle of offered diets. In each feeding throughout the day, 30 pellets were offered per fish. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five replicates per day. A three-minute footage period was established for each feeding with a digital camera. The following feeding behaviors were observed: time to capture the first pellet, number of pellet rejections, number of approaches without capturing the pellet, and number of consumed pellets. No observed parameters presented significant differences (p > 0.05). PHF provided a palatability index of 12.27%, while PHM had an index of 9.33%, PHF of 8.77%, and PHP of 7.74%. Both diets PHS and PHM increased the final consumption of pellets in comparison to FPE by more than 10%, despite the absence of a significant effect.

Palavras-chave: anestesia, espécie exótica, manejo, piscicultura Eugenol and benzocaine as anesthetics for juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio)ABSTRACT Anesthetics such as benzocaine and eugenol are efficiently used in fish to reduce stress both in the management of animals as for transport and reproduction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the induction times and recovery of juvenile common carp (Cyprinius carpio) exposed to both anesthetics, benzocaine (12,5; 25; 37,5; 50; 62,5; 75; 87,5; 100 e 112,5 mg L -1 ) and eugenol (12,5; 25; 37,5; 50; 62,5; 75 e 87,5 mg L -1 ). Hundred and thirty six juveniles were used with a mean weight of 1.92 ± 0.59 g and mean total length of 5.25 ± 0.52 cm. The benzocaine proved more efficient than eugenol over time, thus to induce coma as to recover the scape and also with regard to survival. The doses of benzocaine with best results were 87.5 and 100 mg L -1 . Eugenol delay resulted in the induction and recovery of the animals, and also presented anesthetic mortality when doses were increased.
