Friedrike Schick Der Schluss der Allheit 1. Einleitung: Barbaras Reize und Schwächen Es gibt Tatsachen, für die niemand einen Beweis verlangt und die dennoch beharrlich erschlossen werden. Ein prominentes Beispiel ist die Tatsache, dass auch Sokrates hat sterben müssen. Der bekannte Schluss dazu lautet: Alle Menschen sind sterblich; Sokrates ist ein Mensch; also ist Sokrates sterblich.Und natürlich wird er nicht vorgeführt, um seine Konklusion zu beweisen, sondern um im Rahmen von Logik-Einführungen zu illustrieren, wie ein gültiger Schluss funktioniert. Wenn seine Prämissen wahr sind, kann seine Konklusion nicht falsch sein, und damit erfüllt er das Kriterium der Gültigkeit, die Wahrheitserhaltung. Im Rahmen der älteren Syllogistik ist dieser Schluss noch in einer näheren Hinsicht beispielhaft gewesen: Als singulärer Sonderfall von modus Barbara exemplifiziert er das dictum de omni, das zusammen mit seinem Gegenstück, dem dictum de nullo, das Prinzip syllogistischer Schlüsse überhaupt bildet und in umfangslogischer Fassung besagt, dass von jedem bestimmten Element einer Klasse gilt, was von ihr als ganzer gilt. Doch ungeachtet der musterhaften Gültigkeit, die ihnen nach älteren und neuen Schlusslehren zukommt, sind solche Schlüsse vom Allgemeinen auf das Einzelne immer wieder einmal dem Vorwurf der petitio principii ausgesetzt worden. Stellvertretend für diese Kritik, die sich ähnlich schon in der Pyrrhonischen Skepsis formuliert findet, sei das Zeugnis John Stuart Mills angeführt:Man muß zugeben, daß in jedem Syllogismus, wenn man ihn als einen Beweis ansieht, der den Schlußsatz darthun soll, eme petitio principii liegt. Wenn wir sagen: Alle Menschen sind sterblich, Sokrates ist ein Mensch, folglich Sokrates ist sterblich, so bringen die Gegner der syllogistischen Lehre die unwiderlegliche Einwendung vor, daß der Satz: Sokrates ist sterblich, in der allgemeineren Annahme: alle Menschen sind sterblich, mit vorausgesetzt ist; daß wir der Sterblichkeit aller Menschen nicht sicher sein können, außer wir seien es bereits auch der Sterblichkeit jedes einzelnen Menschen; [...] daß mit einem Worte kein Schluß vom Allgemeinen auf Besonderes als solcher etwas beweisen kann, daß wir aus einem allgemeinen Satz Brought to you by | Stockholms Universitet Authenticated Download Date | 10/8/15 2:36 AM
Dass die logische Form des Schlusses Hegels besondere Hochschätzung genießt, ist ein Umstand, der dem Leser schon bei der oberflächlichen Lektüre seiner Werke ins Auge stechen muss. An prominenter Stelle der Enzyklopädie und der Rechtsphilosophie bedient er sich des Schlusses als Mittel zur Darstellung systematischer Zusammenhänge. In der subjektiven Logik versteigt er sich gar zu der Behauptung: "Alles Vernünftige ist ein Schluss." (GW 12, 90) Natürlich ist dieser Satz vor dem Hintergrund der kantischen Psychologie der Erkenntniskräfte zu lesen, der zufolge die Vernunft "das Vermögen mittelbar zu schließen" bedeutet. Aber damit ist noch nichts über die systematische Funktion gesagt, die der Schluss als das Schibboleth des Vernünftigen im Rahmen von Hegels eigener Philosophie besitzt. Fragt man, an welcher Stelle Hegel möglicherweise Auskunft über die Bedeutung des Schlusses gibt, bietet sich der Verweis auf das gleichnamige Kapitel der Wissenschaft der Logik an. In dem folgenden Beitrag möchte ich einen Vorschlag unterbreiten, wie sich Hegels logische Schlusslehre als ein integraler Bestandteil seiner Theorie des Begriffs verstehen lässt. Ich werde die These vertreten, dass es Hegel bei der Abhandlung der insgesamt neun Formen des Schließens keineswegs auf irgendwelche Erkenntnisse im Gebiet der formalen Logik abgesehen hat, sondern dass die Erörterung des Schlusses ganz im Dienst der Klärung der Natur dessen steht, was Hegel selbst ,den Begriff nennt. Im Zentrum der hier vorgetragenen Interpretation der Schlusslehre steht der mittlere Term. Liegt der Zweck des Schließens in der Begründung der Konklusion durch einen Begriff, hängt es offenbar von diesem mittleren Term ab, ob der Schluss seine Funktion erfüllt. Den Anstoß zu meinen Überlegungen bilden einerseits die Definition des Schlusses und andererseits die Beobachtung, dass Hegel dem mittleren Term im Verlauf der Schlusslehre unterschiedliche Bedeutungen zuweist. Das legt die Vermutung nahe, es könnte sich bei den Schlüssen nicht einfach um mehrere Formen handeln, wie die Terme zueinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden, sondern Hegel verbinde mit den wechselnden Formen eine fortschreitende Bestimmung der Natur des Mittelbegriffs. In dem Sinn dient die Schlusslehre meines Erachtens zur Erläuterung der Verfassung des Begriffs dienen. Hegels subjektive Begriffslehre lässt sich nur dann angemessen verstehen, wenn man ihre erkenntnistheoretische Dimension berücksichtigt. Die Begriffslogik erörtert die Denkformen Allgemeinheit, Besonderheit und Einzelheit, in denen das Denken an sein Ziel kommt, nämlich die wahre Natur der Sache zu ermitteln und damit deren Wesen explizit zu machen. Auch in bezug auf die Urteilslehre lässt sich eine erkenntnistheoretische Lesart geltend machen. Hegel nimmt eine erkenntnistheoretische Interpretation des Urteils vor, wenn er es als immanentes Unterscheiden oder Bestimmen des Begriffs fasst (vgl. Enz. § 165). Er besteht darauf, dass das Urteil vom bloßen Satz unterschieden ist und eine Form objektiven Wissens darstellt (vgl. Enz. § 167). Das Urteil enthält einen Objektivitätsanspruch des Wissens. Und dies ist es, was Hegel interessiert. Hegel hat Rosen ganz offensichtlich gemocht. Deshalb werde ich hier über Rosen sprechen. Ich werde über die Farben der Rosen sprechen, über ihre Metamorphosen und über die Frage, wofür Rosen stehen. Und ich werde darüber sprechen, wie Hegel über Rosen spricht.Zugleich werde ich versuchen, etwas zur Urteils-und Schlusslogik bei Hegel zu sagen. Ich werde vorschlagen, sie nicht als Teil einer Logik zu lesen, sondern als Aspekte einer Theorie des Bedeutungswandels. Ich werde dafür plädieren, Hegel als jemanden zu verstehen, der zeigen möchte, dass es keine referenzielle Bedeutung gibt, dass wir aber trotzdem zwischen wörtlichen und figurativen Bedeutungen unterscheiden müssen. Letztere sind notwendig für die Umstrukturierung unserer Überzeugungen, wenngleich diese nicht mehr sind, als Neuordnungen und Transformationen unseres semantischen Systems. Hegel weist damit zugleich den Kantischen Gedanken zurück, dass es dort eine Welt gibt und hier unsere Sprache und dazwischen ein Schema oder ein Kategoriensystem, das dafür sorgt, dass die eine zu der anderen passt. Damit verabschiedet er die traditionelle Idee, dass Sätze aufgrund ihres Bezuges zur Welt wahr oder falsch sind. Gleichwohl zieht Hegel nicht die Rortysche Konsequenz, die Unterscheidung in Ausdrücke mit einer buchstäblichen und solche mit einer figurativen Bedeutung aufzugeben. Das funktioniert allerdings nur, weil eine buchstäbliche Bedeutung zu haben, für Hegel nicht bedeutet eine referenzielle Bedeutung zu haben. Rose referiert nicht auf eine Rose. Weshalb das seiner Meinung nach so ist, erklärt uns Hegel in den Lehren vom Urteil und vom Schluss. Urteile und Schlüsse sind buchstäbliche, aber nichtrefrenzielle Aussagen. Und dann gibt es noch figurativen Aussagen. Sie haben die syntaktische Form von Urteilen. Das sind die Metaphern. Wenn man von Urteilen bei Hegel redet, muss man auch von Metaphern bei Hegel reden. Ohne das eine nicht das andere. Daher werde ich nicht nur von Urteilen und Schlüssen reden, sondern auch von Metaphern und Vergleichen. Und natürlich von Rosen. Die folgenden Textpassagen aus Hegels kleiner und großer Logik erscheinen uns zumindest zunächst als rätselhaft. Ihre Entzifferung bleibt eine Aufgabe. Dabei sollte die Maxime sein, sich gerade in der Logik nicht mit Sätzen von Hegel selbst oder seinen Interpreten abspeisen zu lassen, solange deren Sinn noch opak ist. Im § 166 der Enzyklopädie der Philosophischen Wissenschaften schreibt Hegel zum Beispiel:Das Urteil ist der Begriff in seiner Besonderheit, als unterscheidende Beziehung seiner Momente, die als fürsichseiende und zugleich mit sich, nicht mit einander identisch gesetzt sind.
