“…In terms of women's higher level of STD/AIDS vulnerability, other analyses in different Brazilian contexts show that the adoption of safer sex behavior among heterosexual groups is influenced by social representation of gender roles, socioeconomic condition, and the association of AIDS with homosexuality and promiscuity(Hebling & Guimarães 2004;Amorim & Andrade 2006;Santos & Iriart 2007).18 The rhetoric about lack of sexual control as a primarily male quality is found in many western ideologies, set in stark contrast to the higher levels of control that women supposedly have(Lutz & Abu-Lughod 1990). Taking into account the implications of these representations, with often violent domination involving men and women, it is necessary to encourage more debate about the subject in society, with the aim of modifying concepts, posture, and values centered on masculine hyper-virility.16 Regarding HIV transmission among WSW, the literature indicates as risk factors unprotected heterosexual relationships, blood transfusions, intravenous drug use, artificial insemination, and work-related accidents(Fishman & Anderson, 2003;Pinto et al 2005; Centers for Disease Control of Atlanta [CDC] 2006).…”

“…On the other hand, the investigations into sexual practices (such as barebacking 2 ), the use of applications to search for partners, and other forms of sexual scripts proved the subjects' actions when faced with the risk notion created by the epidemiology and their sexual controlling apparatus2 3 (Santos, Iriart, 2007;Iriart, 2010;Hull et al, 2016). As it can be seen, this literature relates to other fields of knowledge (epidemiology, public health, psychology, medicine) in order to understand how the social, economic, cultural and subjective determinants of this epidemic operated.…”
