Morphological Characteristics and Pollinia Observation of 10 Indonesia Native Dendrobium Orchids

Abstract: Characterization of native orchid (species) in Indonesia is important for preservation of germplasm and selection process to obtain dominant character of orchids as potential parental. Morphological characterization is a method to obtain scientific information in phenotypic manner. Characterization of plants was carried out on 10 native orchids of Dendrobium genus to obtain specific character. Characterization process based on UPOV guidebook and morphological observation of pollinia was also carried out on 10 … Show more

“…The determination of morphological characters was carried out on plant parts, namely stems, flowers, leaves, roots, seeds, and fruit, which were identified and documented (Indraloka et al 2019). Leaves on orchids have several variations from elongated round to roundedlike in general, lacked leaf bones that form a spread mesh, however parallel to the blade.…”

“…Morphological characterization in orchids is also very important in breeding efforts for conservation and agribusiness purposes (Kasutjianingati and Firgiyanto 2018). The characterization result of 10 native Dendrobium orchids having a place to spatulata segment in Indonesia can be utilized as logical data for many requirements in cross-breeding movement, propagation, conservation of germplasm and hereditary change (Indraloka et al 2019).…”

“…Up to 41% of the revised species are listed as growing within the CMNR area. Other studies using morphological approaches (Metusala 2019), flower and fruit anatomy (Indraloka et al 2019), including the publication of orchid species in reference books (Handoyo 2021;Schuiteman 2013) and the colonization of mycorrhiza in orchid roots (Nurfadilah et al 2016) also add complexity to the diversity of this section. This complexity was notified more than a decade ago by Kraenzlin (1910).…”
