Identification of Dendrobium (Orchidaceae) in Liwa Botanical Garden Based on Leaf Morphological Characters

Abstract: Orchid is one of the most popular ornamental plants in the world. One of the orchid genera that is collected in a large number and known to have high morphological variations in the Liwa Botanical Garden is Dendrobium. However, to date, many Dendrobium collections have not been identified. Given the urgency of identification and the limitations of specimens in the field, especially flower organs, this study is important. This study aims to determine variations in morphological characters, phenetic relationship… Show more

“…The largest epidermal cell size between the two types of orchids was found in P. amabilis with M treatment. The size and shape of the epidermal cells vary greatly in each species 2,7,11 . Measurements of epidemic cells have been attempted to distinguish closely related species, but differences in epidermal size make them unreliable for distinguishing between species.…”

“…The type of orchid that is most in demand by consumers and dominates the market is Dendrobium, followed by Phalaenopsis 1 . This species is widely enjoyed because of its uniqueness in the form of durable and beautiful flowers, with varied shapes and colors 2 . Until now, infectious diseases are still the main obstacle in orchid cultivation 3,4 , including Odontoglossum ringspot virus (ORSV) 1,5 .…”

“…Genetic distance and kinship, as indicated by the coefficient of similarity, are correlated. The closer the kinship between people, the lesser the genetic distance, and the greater the similarity coefficient value (Purnomo et al 2020;Mahfut et al 2021).…”

“…The moth orchid (Phalaenopsis amabilis L. -Blume) is a native tropical orchid from Indonesia requiring conservation (Sukma et al, 2021). According to their natural habitat, these orchids are decreasing and even threatened to go extinct (Kumalawati et al, 2011;Mahfut et al, 2021a). Therefore, it is crucial to conserve and protect orchid plants from diseases.…”
