The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between absorptive capacity, intellectual capital and innovation. The main purpose of this research is to demonstrate that absorptive capacity can leverage the relation between intellectual capital and innovation potential. The method was a single case study using exploratory and descriptive research strategies and applying both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The case study investigated was a Brazilian corporation that has been doing business in the paper and corrugated cardboard industry for 72 years. The paper describes a case analysis demonstrating that adoption of practices associated with absorptive capacity has potential to foster intellectual capital, which is particularly important for development of innovations. These practices include assimilation of new technologies; creating capacity to utilize existing internal knowledge held by employees; use of benchmarking; application of technical knowledge; and registration of patents. Triangulation of data provided evidence confirming that the relationship between absorptive capacity and intellectual capital is a driver of innovation in the firm investigated. Additionally, this relationship is better explained by the mediating role of absorptive capacity, which is capable of potentiating intellectual capital to foster innovation.

Este artigo pretende identificar e analisar elementos importantes no debate acerca da identidade dos programas de Mestrado Modalidade Profissional em Administração (MPA) no Brasil. A partir de uma perspectiva geral sobre os tipos de demanda mobilizados pelos programas de formação gerencial mais difundidos no Brasil (pós-graduação lato sensu, ou Especialização, e stricto sensu, nas formas de Mestrado Acadêmico e Mestrado Modalidade Profissional), procura caracterizar as condições de resposta de cada um deles às perspectivas de tais demandas. Ao mesmo tempo, introduz nesse debate a noção de competência, considerando-a como um elemento-chave para a avaliação da efetividade desses programas. Finalmente, analisa as vantagens diferenciais dos MPAs face ao atual contexto de negócios e destaca a questão da noção de competência em tal processo. Em primeiro lugar, são sempre bem-vindos os artigos que propõem uma revisão da produção científica em determinada área do conhecimento. É uma forma de os pesquisadores que ali atuam apropriarem as principais tendências, avanços e dificuldades originadas no debate recente, com visível economia de energia e tempo. Mais relevantes ainda se tornam esses trabalhos, quando aportam abrangência e qualidade. É o caso de A Produção Acadêmica sobre Aprendizagem Organizacional no Brasil, preparado por Elisabeth Loiola e Antonio Virgilio Bittencourt Bastos. Ao revisar 43 trabalhos acerca do tema publicados em três periódicos brasileiros e em anais de dois dos congressos com maior participação de pesquisadores brasileiros na área de Administração, os autores deste trabalho destacam alguns aspectos importantes do debate sobre aprendizagem organizacional no Brasil. Entre suas principais contribuições, no que concerne à caracterização de tendências e dificuldades, arrola-se o elenco a seguir.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the perceived quality of the service environment, regarding the use of the flipped classroom, through a survey of MBA students. Design/methodology/approach Four hypotheses were developed from the literature in marketing and quality services in higher education. The hypotheses were tested using linear regressions. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The sample had 981 effective responses. Findings The results of the statistical analysis show that the evaluation of the perceived quality of the educator and course are positively affected by the use of the flipped classroom. Research limitations/implications Only one higher education organisation was studied. The variables analysed have no mediation and moderation, which is a suggestion for future studies. Originality/value This paper contributes to studies of higher education services and quality, as it shows the influence of the process on the educator. In higher education, the educator is usually considered independent, having a strong influence on perceived quality. The study contributes to the theme by showing the flipped classroom as an effective teaching strategy that requires further empirical study.

RESUMOO artigo pretende repensar a questão da formação gerencial e, neste sentido, destaca dois aspectos que estão estreitamente vinculados a esta temática: a) analisa a perspectiva da abordagem aprendizagem na ação nos cursos de formação gerencial de longa duração; b) introduz uma discussão acerca das alternativas para superar as dificuldades referentes à efetividade desses cursos na perspectiva de resposta às problemáticas empresariais. A partir destes objetivos, o artigo examina as possibilidades dos processos de Aprendizagem na Ação em cursos de pós-graduação lato sensu como forma de articulação entre informação teórica e experiência pessoal/ profissional. Neste sentido, analisa a questão da estratégia de aprendizagem e reflete sobre o fato de ela ser tão ou mais importante que os conteúdos específicos das disciplinas e seminários, pelo menos no que se refere ao desenvolvimento de certo tipo de competências. Resulta em propor e discutir uma concepção que visa estabelecer conexões mais sistemáticas entre a modalidade de curso analisada e o processo de desenvolvimento de competências. Essa concepção é baseada na emergência de novos paradigmas no campo da aprendizagem e formação gerencial, cujos fundamentos se concentram na abordagem Aprendizagem na Ação, com destaque para a noção de Comunidades de Prática nas organizações.Palavras-chave:aprendizagem organizacional; formação gerencial; desenvolvimento de competências; aprendizagem na ação; comunidades de prática. ABSTRACTThe article intends to rethink the managerial formation subject, and highlights, two narrowly linked aspects it this theme: a) it analyzes the use of the Learning in the Action approach in long duration managerial formation courses; b) it introduces a debate concerning the alternatives to overcome the difficulties regarding the effectiveness of those courses in solving business problems. From these objectives, the article examines the possibilities for using Learning in the Action processes in post-graduation Lato Sensu courses (as MBA's) as a way to connect theoretical information and personal/professional experience. In this sense, it analyzes the subject of the learning strategy to be so or more important than the specific contents of the disciplines and seminars, at least in what refers to the development of certain types of competences. Finally, it proposes a conception that seeks to establish more systematic connections among the analyzed courses and the competences development process. That conception is based on the emergency of new paradigms in the field of learning and managerial formation whose foundations concentrate on the Learning in the Action approach, with prominence for the notion of Communities of Practice in the organizations.

RESUMO Os processos e o desempenho das organizações são construídos por meio de ações coletivas as quais são especialmente resultantes da interação entre pessoas. Entretanto, as formas de gestão predominantes nas organizações permanecem orientadas pela atuação individual. Uma das dificuldades é a escassez de cultura e instrumentos teórico-empíricos para lidar com configurações coletivas. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é ampliar os conhecimentos acerca das configurações coletivas a partir da seleção de categorias de análise que viabilizem a identificação de elementos e dinâmicas que constituem os coletivos. Nesse sentido optamos por um estudo de caso desenvolvido no ambiente de Recursos Humanos, mais particularmente nas práticas de gestão de RH de uma empresa que atua no setor financeiro, a fim de construir conhecimentos sobre essa dimensão coletiva. A análise dos resultados revelou não apenas a presença de elementos capazes de configurar os coletivos de trabalho, mas também uma dinâmica de formação e desenvolvimento de competências coletivas, principais contribuições do artigo. O uso desse instrumental revelou a presença de duas competências coletivas dentre as práticas de RH examinadas: (a) relacionamento e colaboração e (b) capacidade de desenvolver soluções conjuntas, observando-se que a primeira foi avaliada em estágio mais avançado de consolidação. Finalmente, ainda como resultado deste estudo, foi elaborado um framework que sistematiza os resultados obtidos na perspectiva da formação e desenvolvimento de competências coletivas.

This paper explores MBA students' perceptions about their learning process and the outcomes of development of capabilities and competences. A qualitative exploratory study was conducted between 2004 and 2008 with 160 students enrolled in 6 different MBA programs in Brazil. The data were collected at group activities using a questionnaire to lead the participants to identify the contents and experiences from their MBA's that were associated with the development of capabilities and competences relevant to practice. Examining the current literature and its indications of a myriad of pedagogical approaches, we discuss the MBA educators' pedagogical planning for developing capacities and competences without considering which knowledge is valued as relevant by students. Our results identified three aspects as the most relevant in MBA students' learning experiences: (a) openness to exploit new ways of interpreting the world; (b) development of specific capabilities; and (c) development of relational competence. The main contribution of our study is to highlight the students' active engagement in the learning opportunities created by MBA educators and their outcomes. Based on the evidence, we argue that the pedagogical planning developed by educators should consider MBA students as the protagonist of their management education process.
