There are three types of clause in Minangkabaunese based on the typological analysis, namely: active, passive, and topicalization one. Accordingly, each clause has special information structure which makes they are different in communicating messages. This article tries to describe the types of clauses in Minangkabaunese based on typological analysis and then the discussion is continued in order to know the information structure in each clause. This article is derived and developed based on the result of a fundamental research conducted for the first year (2008) in West-Sumatra.
Autistic savant as one of the language disorders can be found in daily life and it also can be portrayed in literary works and films. An autistic savant is a person with autism who has the limitation in most social functions but has cognitive abilities, such as possessing some outstanding memories and computational skills. This research aims to find out the types of language disorder and to find out the dominant type of language disorders found in autistic savant portrayed in Levinson’s Rain Man film. This research used a descriptive method. The data used in this research were the utterances of an autistic savant. The result of this research shows that the type of expressive language disorder was obtained with the occurrence percentage of 67.7% while the receptive language disorder type was obtained by the occurrence percentage of 32.3%. From this percentage, it can be seen that the most dominant type of language disorders experienced by autistic savant in Rain Man film is expressive language disorder. It means the autistic savant as an adult person also has difficulty in expressing or producing language. This article is a development research that aims to develop teaching-based writing materials in the process of producing a genre in the form of exposition hortatory. In this study also estimated the level of validity, practicality and effectiveness of teaching materials developed. This research method is done in four stages; definition, design, development and limited deployment; on the students of grade XI IPA 2 SMA Adabiah Padang. After the stages of dissemination is limited, measured product practicability and product effectiveness to the value of student writing. Development results show the validity of the product contained in the category can be used with the improvement with a value of 77.4. Practicality of the product is stated at the value of 88.77 and the effectiveness at the value of 80%. It can be concluded that the product can be used as teaching teaching material. Didalam penelitian ini juga diestimasi tingkat validitas, praktikalitas dan efektifitas bahan ajar yang dikembangkan. Metode penelitian ini dilakukan dalam empat tahapan; definisi, disain, pengembangan dan penyebaran terbatas; pada siswa kelas XI IPA 2 SMA Adabiah Padang. Setelah tahapan disseminasi terbatas, diukur praktikalitas produk dan effektifitas produk terhadap nilai menulis siswa. Hasil pengembangan menunjukkan validitas produk terdapat pada kategori bisa digunakan dengan perbaikan dengan nilai 77.4. Praktikalitas produk dinyatakan pada nilai 88.77 dan efektifitas pada nilai 80%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk dapat digunakan sebagai bahan ajar mengajar menulis.
The research aims to find the relation between economics with education in Indonesia and its impact on economic building. It is qualitative research by using a theoretical review approach. The data are taken from the Education in Law no. 20 of 2003 concerning the national education system and some theories related to economy and education, then analyzed in the review forms of theory. The result of this research is education, and the economy in Indonesia are two interrelated sides. A strong economy is needed to build the quality of education. Meanwhile, to create a strong economy, educated people are needed. Parents with better economic status tend to provide quality education. One of the ways that can be done to implement education is the government's commitment to budgeting education financing at least 20% of the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget / Regional Revenue and Learning Budget (APBN / APBD). Building the economy builds the economic, social, and moral sectors so that monopoly does not occur. Human capital investment in the form of education will be more profitable than physical investment. It is concluded that a good education will produce people who can drive the economy better.
This article, a part of dissertation entitled Developing Basic English Grammar Teaching Material based on Interactive Multimedia at University Level, presents the results of a study conducted to find the model of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia needed by the students. This empirical research employed both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Seventy eight students of English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang were involved. The students were required to articulate their need on a design of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. The data were collected through an open questionnaire. The first result is that Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia is very needed (with the score 3.1 out of 4). Second, the result indicates the organization of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. The organization consists of six parts. They are Time to watch/sing/read, Time to chat, Time to Focus, Time for fun practice, Time for tube, and Time for action. Third, the students have different learning style. Fourty two students (53.84%) have visual learning style. Twenty two students (28.21%) have audio learning style. The rest, fourteen students (17.95%) have kinestetic learning style. Four, the finding shows the students have their favorite movies, colors, and music. The students like comedy/humor, drama, horror, dokumentary, and action movies; they love pop, jazz, rock, country, and rap music; they adore blue, green, black, pink, and red color. Another important research finding is almost all students (91%) have their own laptop. Those findings will be considerations in designing the Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. Further research to see the effectiveness of the model of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia needs to be done.
The purposes of this study were to find out the kinds and the meaning of thanking expressions used by the multiculturalism students. The data was collected from 11 fourth-semester students. This study used descriptive qualitative. The instrument was a discourse completion test (DCT). The result showed there were 110 responses, it divided into 5 kinds of thanking expressions they were 99 responses of thanking (90%), 6 responses of appreciation (5,4%), 2 responses of positive feelings (1,8%), 1 response of apologizing (0,9%), and 2 responses of repayment (1,8%). This research has examined the kinds and meanings realized by the students. Based on the data, it could be seen that there were different meanings and styles based on their cultural perspective.
