Isozyme alterations in soybean cultivar seeds at different storage conditionsAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine the physiological and isozyme alterations in seeds of soybean genotypes, under different storage conditions. A completely randomized experimental design was used with four replicates, in a factorial arrangement with six soybean cultivars (TMG 1176, TMG 1179, TMG 132, TMG 133, TMG 115, and GB 874) and five storage times (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 months), in two storage environments (a cold and dry chamber, at 10ºC and 50% relative humidity; and a conventional warehouse, under uncontrolled conditions). Physiological quality was evaluated by the germination, accelerated aging, and cold tests. Isozyme expressions of malate dehydrogenase (MDH), alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), esterase (EST), isocitrate lyase (ICL), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (PO) were determined. Soybean seeds stored in cold and dry chambers maintained their physiological quality. After six months storage under uncontrolled conditions, seed quality and isozyme expressions of MDH, ADH, EST, ICL, SOD, and PO lowered. There was no alteration on seed stored in cold and dry chambers. Soybean genotypes show different tolerance levels to storage and isozyme expression.Index terms: Glycine max, cold chamber, enzymes, storability. PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PERFORMANCE OF CUCUMBER SEEDS AT DIFFERENT MATURATION STAGESABSTRACT -The objective iN this study was to evaluate the physiological and biochemical performance of cucumber seeds during the maturation process. The cucumber seeds of the hybrid "Ômega" were used and the fruits were harvested at 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 days after anthesis. The seed quality was assessed after processing and drying, by measuring fruit mass, water content, seed dry mass and mass of thousand seeds. The seed physiological quality was evaluated from the tests of germination, first counting, electrical conductivity, speed emergence index, and final stand. X-ray and electrophoresis analyses of the iso-enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase, esterase, lipoxigenase, isocitrate liase and LEA proteins were made. An improved physiological quality of hybrid Omega cucumber seeds is obtained at 45 and 50 days after anthesis, when the fruits are greenish-white. This is supported by analysis of superoxide dismutase, catalase, lipoxygenase, isocitrate lyase and LEA proteins, as well as the X-ray test, which confirmed the results of the physiological tests.
The experiment was carried out in Itutinga, southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil, in a randomized blocks experimental design with three replications in split-plot. The cultivar used was BRS Favorita RR. The treatments applied to plots consisted on four doses of "poultry litter" (0; 3; 6 and 9 Mg ha -1 ), applied in the total area. The subplots were the five doses of mineral fertilizer NPK 04-30-10 (0; 100; 200; 300 and 400 kg ha -1 ), applied to the groove seeding. Fertilization with mineral fertilizers provides an increase in plant and first pod height, number of pods per plant and yield of soybean. Fertilization with organic waste "poultry litter" increases the plant and first pod height, weight of 100 grains, number of pods per plant and yield of soybean, however at higher doses favors the lodging of plants. The use of poultry litter is viable in agronomic and economic terms in the soybean crop. The addition of poultry litter increases the contents of potassium and sulfur in the soil.
-The objective of this experiment was to evaluate responses of soybean cultivars seeds (with different levels of lignin) considering harvest postponement under the incidence of water and the effect of storage. The experiment was conducted in Iraí de Minas, Brazil using a randomized block design with three replications under a 5 x 3 x 3 factorial arrangement, with five soybean cultivars (NK 7059 RR, SYN 1163 RR, SYN 9070 RR, AS 7307 RR and SYN 1283 RR), three harvesting periods (R8, R8 + one rain simulation in the pre-harvesting period and R8 + two simulations in the pre-harvesting period) under three storage times (0, 90 and 180 days). Seeds were evaluated for their chemical composition (lignin contents), the percentage of moisture damage using the tetrazolium test and physiological quality (germination, accelerated aging, conductivity test, seedling emergence and emergence index). Cultivar AS 7307 RR had the highest lignin content in the integument, the lowest percentage of damage by moisture and the highest physiological quality. Cultivars NK 7059 RR and SYN 1163 RR had the lowest lignin contents in the integument and the highest moisture damage. Electrical conductivity increased after storing all cultivars.Index terms: Glycine max, lignin, storage.
ABSTRACTThe treatment of soybean seeds by fungicides has been used as an important tool in pathogen control. The objective of this work was to verify the performance of soybean seeds treated with fungicide and film coating, prior and after storage. Five seed lots, cultivar Monsoy 6101, were treated with thiabendazole+thiram without polymer, carbendazin+thiram without polymer, without fungicide (control), without polymer, and treatments by film coating (with polymer). The physiological and sanitary quality of the seeds was evaluated initially and after six months storage, under environmental conditions, according to the following characteristics: water content, test of germination and emergence on tray, blotter test and cold test. The film coating associated with fungicides does not affect the physiological quality of soybean seeds and the soybean seed treatment with the fungicides thiabendazole+thiram and carbendazin+thiram improves performance and sanitary quality.
