New Technologies of Information / Communication offer the option of using a virtual learning environment (VLE), which allows for greater interactivity in daily nursing education urging educators to rethink their teaching practices. The aim of this study was to report the experience of the use of virtual environment in nursing education from the perspective of students. The discipline "Nursing Education: Trends and Challenges" was given to 78 students from the 4th semester of undergraduate nursing, from which 48 answered a questionnaire with closed and, among these, 33 answered an open question about the use of AVA. Students considered the AVA a facilitating tool of learning, the process of knowledge construction and interaction between students, teachers and tutors enriching thus the sharing of ideas and allowing a meaningful and collaborative learning. The study revealed the need for enhancement of use of VLE in teaching undergraduate nursing.
The aim of this study was to identify the National Superior Teaching courses in distance education by concentration area, geographic region, graduation level and distance education Nursing courses in higher education. The method used was an exploratory descriptive study in which was carried out a survey in government and non-government sites and portals related to national and distance education of higher education schools that offer distance education. The results identified only two latu sensu Graduate courses that offer Nursing specifically. Thus Nursing higher education schools must invest more on creating and evaluating distance education courses, as well as on infra-structure and on the implementation of a policy of technological capacity-building.
Objective: To evaluate the functional performance and the technical quality of the Electronic Documentation System of the Nursing Process of the Teaching Hospital of the University of São Paulo. Method: exploratory-descriptive study. The Quality Model of regulatory standard 25010 and the Evaluation Process defined under regulatory standard 25040, both of the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission. The quality characteristics evaluated were: functional suitability, reliability, usability, performance efficiency, compatibility, security, maintainability and portability. The sample was made up of 37 evaluators. Results: in the evaluation of the specialists in information technology, only the characteristic of usability obtained a rate of positive responses of less than 70%. For the nurse lecturers, all the quality characteristics obtained a rate of positive responses of over 70%. The staff nurses of the medical and surgical clinics with experience in using the system) and staff nurses from other units of the hospital and from other health institutions (without experience in using the system) obtained rates of positive responses of more than 70% referent to the functional suitability, usability, and security. However, performance efficiency, reliability and compatibility all obtained rates below the parameter established. Conclusion: the software achieved rates of positive responses of over 70% for the majority of the quality characteristics evaluated.
Objective:to evaluate students’ learning in an online course on basic life support with immediate feedback devices, during a simulation of care during cardiorespiratory arrest. Method:a quasi-experimental study, using a before-and-after design. An online course on basic life support was developed and administered to participants, as an educational intervention. Theoretical learning was evaluated by means of a pre- and post-test and, to verify the practice, simulation with immediate feedback devices was used. Results:there were 62 participants, 87% female, 90% in the first and second year of college, with a mean age of 21.47 (standard deviation 2.39). With a 95% confidence level, the mean scores in the pre-test were 6.4 (standard deviation 1.61), and 9.3 in the post-test (standard deviation 0.82, p <0.001); in practice, 9.1 (standard deviation 0.95) with performance equivalent to basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to the feedback device; 43.7 (standard deviation 26.86) mean duration of the compression cycle by second of 20.5 (standard deviation 9.47); number of compressions 167.2 (standard deviation 57.06); depth of compressions of 48.1 millimeter (standard deviation 10.49); volume of ventilation 742.7 (standard deviation 301.12); flow fraction percentage of 40.3 (standard deviation 10.03). Conclusion:the online course contributed to learning of basic life support. In view of the need for technological innovations in teaching and systematization of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, simulation and feedback devices are resources that favor learning and performance awareness in performing the maneuvers.
Objective: To compare the degree of accuracy of certain nursing diagnoses, for nursing students in system decision support and paper-based records. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with a sample of 17 undergraduate nursing students. The data collection was conducted through forms of characterization of students and one clinical case, validated previously, for the indication of the system and paper-based diagnostic. The diagnostic accuracy was assessed by the Scale for Accuracy of Nursing Diagnoses (SAND) and non-parametric tests. Results: There was statistical significance in the highly accurate diagnosis (p=0.013), when graduate students used the system for decision support, demonstrating the determination of more accurate diagnosis in clinical case studies. Conclusion: The use of decision support systems favors the diagnostic accuracy of nursing and is inferred that it can support clinical reasoning of nursing students.
