Von Prof. Dr. ]termann Merkel, Miinchen.Der Aufforderung des Vorstandes unserer Gesellsehaft, bei der heurigen wissenschaftliehen Tagung einen zusammenfassenden Bericht fiber Todeszeitbestimmung menschlicher Leichen zu geben, bin ich nut unter ~berwindung gewisser innerer tIemmungen naehgekommen.Es ist ja richtig, dal3 es sich hier um eine aul~erordentlich wichtige, Frage handelt, deren mSglichst exakte Beantwortung in erster Linie dem Richter sehr wertvoll sein muB; andererseits weig jeder, welcher ira Laufe yon Jahren und Jahrzehnten dutch Besch~ftigung mit einem gr6Beren Leichenmaterial einen rcichen Schatz an pers6nlichen Erfahrungen gesammelt hat, wie auBerordentHch schwer im einzelnen FMt diese Frage der Todeszeitbestimmung zu beantworten ist. Wenn ich trotz dieser Schwierigkeit Ihnen heute einen l~berb]ick fiber das geben will, was wit ~uf diesem Gebiete wissen, so muB ich vorausschieken, dab ieh Ihnen niehts wesentlich Neues zu bieten vermag, sondern dab ich nur die der Mehrzahl yon nns bekannten Einzelerscheinungen ffir die Beantwortung dieser Frage zusammenstelle, dag ieh sie kritiseh bespreebe und dabei auch unsere eigenen Beobaehtungen verwerte. Die Entscheidung fiber die Todeszeitbestimmung ist --wie gesagt ffir den _Richter oft eine aufierordentlich wichtige Frage, sie tritt daher' nicht nut an uns Geriehtliche Mediziner, die wit in den wissenschaftlichen Instituten t~tig sind, heran, sondern sic besch~ftigt noeh vielmehr fast den allgemein t~tigen Gerichtsarzt und Kreisarzt, welcher. im jeweiligen Fall als der naehst zust~ndige Sachverst~ndige yon der Polizei oder yon der Gerichtskommission zur Begutachtung einer evtl. aufgefundenen Leiehe aufgefordert und mit der Be~ntwortung dieser Frage betraut wird.Aus der Bestimmung dcr Todeszeit gewinnt man ja unter Umst~nden hSchst wichtige Anhaltspnnkte naeh maneherlei Riehtungen --so z.
