ABSTRACT:In this study, changes of pH, ionic (Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , and Mg 2+ ), biochemical (total protein, glucose, and cholesterol) compositions of seminal plasma, sperm motility traits (percentage of motile spermatozoa and sperm movement duration), and sperm production characteristics (sperm volume, spermatocrit, and sperm density) were studied in Caspian roach, Rutilus rutilus caspicus, during spawning migration. Sperm of 10 males was collected three times during the spawning migration (in February, March, and April). The results showed that sperm motility parameters (percentage of motile spermatozoa and sperm movement duration) changed significantly (P < 0.05) during the reproductive season, but sperm density, spermatocrit, and sperm volume did not show significant differences during spawning migration. Analyses performed at each sampling time (February, March, and April) showed significant differences (P < 0.05) in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and cholesterol, whereas there were no significant changes in Na + , pH, total protein, glucose, and cholesterol.

To identify a simple tool for quick evaluation of quality of endangered Caspian brown trout, Salmo trutta caspius eggs, the changes of pH (both in ovarian fluid and fertilization water), turbidity (both in ovarian fluid and fertilization water), fertilization and eyeing rates were investigated in ovarian fluid samples containing perfect eggs as well as different concentrations of broken eggs. The pH of ovarian fluid and water as well as fertilization and eyeing rates decreased significantly (P<0.05) with increasing of broken eggs in ovarian fluid. In contrast, the turbidity of ovarian fluid and water as well as mortality rate of eggs increased significantly (P<0.05) with increasing of broken eggs in ovarian fluid. Also, significant correlations (P<0.01) were found between measured parameters as follow: pH of ovarian fluid vs. pH of water and fertilization and eyeing rates; turbidity of ovarian fluid vs. turbidity of water; turbidity of ovarian fluid and water vs. fertilization and eyeing rates. Our results conclude that pH and turbidity of ovarian fluid and water effectively influence on efficiency of artificial propagation. Therefore, these could be used as two simple tools for quick evaluation of quality of Caspian brown trout eggs during artificial reproduction in the hatchery.

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of parasite infection on haematological parameters of common carp, Cyprinus carpio. To this end, fish with same age were sampled from a warm water fish farm. After fish sampling, fish were transferred to lab for parasite study. Parasite incidence percent and density were calculated for two population carps. After parasite study, to investigate the haematological parameters, the blood sampling was carried out from two group fish i.e. infected (n = 20) and non-infected fish (n = 20). According our results, totally three parasite species were identified including Dactylogyrus sp., Trichodina sp. and Lernaea cyprinacea. Significant differences were observed between infected and non-infected fish (P \ 0.05). In this regard, the values of haematocrit, haemoglobin and red blood cell were lower in infected fish than healthy individuals (P \ 0.05). In contrast, number of white blood cells (WBCs) were higher in infected fish compared to noninfected fish (P \ 0.05). In conclusion, our study reveals that the parasite infection was responsible for altering the haematology of common carp. Increased number of WBC may be in relation to the defense mechanism and immunological responses against parasites.

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of synbiotic (Biomin IMBO) on haematological (white blood cell (WBC) and red blood cell (RBC) counts, haemoglobin (Hb) concentration, haematocrit (Hct), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC)) and immunological (immunoglobulin (IgM) and lysozyme activity) components of Russian sturgeon, Acipenser guldenstadti. Five experimental treatments and one control group with three replicates were considered. In treatment groups, fish were fed with diet containing 1 (T 1 ), 1.5 (T 2 ), 2 (T 3 ), 2.5 (T 4 ) and 3 (T 5 ) g synbiotic/kg diet. In control group, fish were fed without supplement of synbiotic. Blood sampling for haematological and immunological studies was done at days 20, 40 and 60 after the beginning of the experiment. Based on our results, synbiotic supplement had no significant effects on values Hb, Htc, MCV and MCHC compared to control group (P>0.05). Also, in all experimental treatments, these parameters did not considerable changes during the course of the experiment (P>0.05). The effect of synbiotic supplement on MCH was not significant (P>0.05); however, this value was higher in synbiotic supplement treatments compared to control group. MCH had no significant changes during the period of the experiment in all experimental groups (P>0.05). In all synbiotic treatments, the values of WBC count, neutrophils, monocytes and eosinophils were higher than control group (P<0.05). Only, lymphocytes in synbiotic supplement treatments were lower compared to control group (P<0.05). Also, WBC count showed a decreasing trend during the period of the experiment in all synbiotic supplement groups (P<0.05). Synbiotic supplement increased RBCs compared to control group; however, this was not significant (P>0.05). The values of RBCs in T4 and T5 showed an increasing change over the course of the experiment (P<0.05). The immunological components, i.e. IgM concentration and lysozyme activity, were found to be higher in synbiotic supplement treatments compared to control group (P<0.05). These parameters had no significant changes over the course of the experiment (P>0.05).

This study involved 120 pike, Esox lucius, captured from Anzali wetland. Parasite fauna were identified in captured fish. Also, changes of haematological parameters were compared both infected and uninfected fish. Parasitological inspections revealed the following infestations: Skin: Lernea cyprinacea, Argulus foliaceus (Crustacean) and Tricodina sp. (Ciliatea). Gill: Dactylogyrus sp. (Digenea) and Tetraonchus monenteron (Monogenea). Eye: Diplostomum spathaceum (Digenea). Gut: Eustrongylides exises, Rhipdocotyle illense, Raphidascaris acus (Nematode), Corynosoma Strumosum (Acanthocephala). Most prevalence and intensity were related to Eustrongylides exises and Rhipdocotyle illense. Following haematological parameters were evaluated: haematocrit, haemoglobin concentration, erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell haemoglobin, mean cell haemoglobin concentration lymphocytes, monocytes and eosinophils. Significant difference was found for MCV between infected and uninfected fish.
