ABSTRACTThe experiment was conducted in the Section of Aviculture, of the Department of Animal Science at the Federal University of Paraiba to study the acting of 324 laying hens Lohmann Brown, submitted to different proteins and energy levels among of the 43 a and 55 a week of age. The laying hens were distributed in randomly experimental design in a factorial model 3x3, being 3 crude protein levels (15.50, 16.50 and 17.50%) and 3 energy levels (2700, 2800 and 2900 Kcal ME/kg), with 6 replicates and 6 laying hens for experiment unit. The parameters evaluated were production of eggs, mass of eggs, feed conversion for mass of eggs, weight of the egg, weight of albumen, weight of the yolk and weight of the shell, and their respective percentages. The crude protein and metabolizable energy levels had any significantlive influency (P>0.05) on the studied parameters. Crude protein and metabolizable energy levels shown linear effect (P<.05) only on weight and percentage of the albumen and shell, however there was not interaction on it. In conclusion the best crude protein and metabolizable energy levels for the laying hens Lohmann Brown in the period from 43 to 55 weeks were 17,50% of CP and 2900 Kcal of ME/kg for better weight and albumen percentage and of 15,50% of PB and 2700 Kcal of EM/kg for better weight and shell percentage.
Several researchers have developed prediction equations to estimate the metabolisable energy (ME) of energetic and protein concentrate feedstuffs used in diets for broilers. The ME is estimated by considering CP, ether extract, ash and fibre contents. However, the results obtained using traditional regression analysis methods have been inconsistent and new techniques can be used to obtain better estimate of the feedstuffs' energy value. The objective of this paper was to implement a multilayer perceptron network to estimate the nitrogen-corrected metabolisable energy (AMEn) values of the energetic and protein concentrate feeds, generally used by the poultry feed industry. The concentrate feeds were from plant origin. The dataset contains 568 experimental results, all from Brazil. This dataset was separated into two parts: one part with 454 data, which was used to train, and the other one with 114 data, which was used to evaluate the accuracy of each implemented network. The accuracy of the models was evaluated on the basis of their values of mean squared error, R 2 , mean absolute deviation, mean absolute percentage error and bias. The 7-5-3-1 model presented the highest accuracy of prediction. It was developed an Excel R AMEn calculator by using the best model, which provides a rapid and efficient way to predict the AMEn values of concentrate feedstuffs for broilers. Keywords: avian production, broilers, metabolisable energy, multilayer perceptron ImplicationsIt is difficult and expensive to estimate the nitrogencorrected metabolisable energy (AMEn) values of the feedstuffs used for broilers. The results of this study demonstrate that the implementation of multilayer perceptron networks (MLP) in a meta-analysis is suitable to estimate these energy values. Furthermore, a calculator was created on the basis of the results of the MLP, which allows an efficient way of predicting the AMEn values.
ABSTRACTThis study was carried out with the objective to evaluate the substitution of the corn for cassava meal in broilers diets in the growing and finishing phases. A completely randomized design, with six treatments representing cassava meal (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25%) in replacing corn, six replicates and 25 broilers per replicate, was used. At the end of each phase, were analyzed feed intake (FI), weight gain (WG) and feed conversion (FC). The analysis of the data shown quadratic effect for growing and final phases. According to the statistical analysis the adequate cassava meal levels for each phase was determined. It was conclude that, in the growing phase, the broiler shown that up to 10.24% of corn should be replace by cassava meal , without affect the broilers performance, therefore for the final phase, any substitution level of cassava meal should be recommended due to reduction on the performance with the use of this manioc by-product.
As dietas e a água foram fornecidas à vontade durante sete dias (quatro de adaptação e três de coleta total de excretas Chemical composition and metabolizable energy of corn hybrids for broilersABSTRACT -The values of chemical composition and metabolizable energy of 45 hybrid corns were determined in four trials with growing chickens. A total of 1,225, nineteen days old male chicks were used: 350 in the trials 1, 2 and 3 and 175 in trial 4. In the trials 1, 2 and 3 the treatments consisted of 13 test diets, being 13 corn varieties, and the reference diet in each trial. Trial 4 consisted of 7 treatments, being 6 test diets (corn varieties) and the reference. The hybrid corns, replaced 40% of the reference diets in all the trials.. A completely randomized design with five replicates of five birds per cage was used. The diets and water were offered ad libitum for a 7-day period, being four days for adaptation and three for days for excreta collection. A variation of 32% in crude protein -CP (7.79% vs. 11.45%, dry matter basis) was found. The values of gross energy (GE) presented a variation of 5.2%. The higher value observed was 4,668 kcal and the lower value 4,425 kcal/kg. The average value for corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) was 3,744 kcal/kg, with a variation of 15.15% (3,405 to 4,013 kcal/kg).However, it was observed that the two hybrids presenting this variation (608 kcal AMEn/kg DM) had similar GE values (3914 and 3931 kcal GE/kg of DM; 0.36% variation). This variation in the AMEn can possibly be accounted on the coefficient of gross energy metabolization which was 75% for the hybrid with the lowest AMEn and 88% for the hybrid with the highest AMEn.Despite of corn being an energy source , the evaluation of its CP content is important due to the considerable variation in the protein values of the different hybrids found currently. The same is valid for the energy values.
As variáveis FDN e FDA dos alimentos são importantes e não podem ser desconsideradas, pois sua retirada do modelo ocasionou redução do coeficiente de determinação de 84% e 83% para 70%.Palavras-chave: composição química, energia metabolizável, frangos de corte, mínimos quadrados ponderados Prediction equations to estimate the energy values of plant origin concentrate feeds for poultry utilizing the meta-analysis ABSTRACT -The present study was carried out to obtain prediction equations to estimate the metabolizable energy values (AMEn) of concentrate feeds of plant origin commonly used in poultry diets, using the meta-analysis principle. A data collection review was made of the studies carried out in Brazil to catalogue information on the metabolizable energy values and chemical composition of the feeds (CP -crude protein; EE -ether extract; ash; CF -crude fiber; NDF -neutral detergent fiber; ADF -acid detergent fiber), to obtain the prediction equations to estimate the metabolizable energy of these feeds, using their chemical composition. The following effects were considered: sex at three levels (male; female and mixed); age at four levels (1 st and 2 nd week of life; 3 rd and 4 th week; 5 th and 6 th seek; above or indefinite) and the methodology used in the metabolism assay at two levels (total collection of excreta -TC and forced fed plus TC). The factorial arrangement among the effects (3 × 4 × 2), totaling up to 24 groups, was submitted to the weighed least squares analysis. The Stepwise procedure was adopted to study the association among the variables, and then, the Proc Reg (SAS) as used to fit the multiple linear regression model. Two equations were a better fit to estimate the metabolizable energy of the concentrate feeds, metabolizable energy = 4101.33 + 56.28EE -232.97ash -28.86NDF + 10.42ADF (R² = 0.84) and metabolizable energy = 4095.41 + 56.84EE -225,26ash -22.24NDF (R² = 0.83). It was observed that the variables neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber were important and that they cannot be disregarded, since their removal from the model reduced the determination coefficient from 84% and 83% to 70%.
Ethanol extracts of mango as antioxidants for laying hensAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of ethanol extracts of mango seeds and peel on laying hen performance, egg quality, and egg lipid stability. A total of 180 Hisex White hens were randomly distributed in six treatments, with five replicates of six birds. The treatments consisted of: ration without antioxidant; ration with 200 ppm butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT); ration with 200 or 400 ppm of mango peel extract (Ecas); and ration with 200 or 400 ppm of mango seed extract (Ecar). Feed intake, egg production, egg weight, produced egg mass (gram by bird per day), feed conversion, and egg quality were evaluated. Yolk lipid oxidation during storage was determined by quantification of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances. Birds fed diet without antioxidants produced eggs with the lowest Haugh unit values and the highest lipid oxidation of yolk. Ecas at 400 ppm and Ecar at 200 or 400 ppm were effective to prevent oxidative damage of eggs during storage and may be used in the diet of laying hens as a replacement for synthetic antioxidant.Index terms: Gallus gallus, Mangifera indica, natural antioxidant, magiferin, lipid oxidation, egg quality.
Ethanol extracts of mango as antioxidants for broiler chickenAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the diet inclusion of ethanol extracts, obtained from mango seed and peel, on the performance of broilers and on the lipid oxidation of meat. Three hundred and sisty one-day-old male chicks of the strain Ross 308 were distributed in a completely randomized design, with six treatments and six replicates of ten birds. Treatments consisted of: diet without antioxidant (control); diet with addition of 200 ppm of the antioxidant butylhydroxytoluene (BHT); diet with 200 or 400 ppm extract of mango peel (ECAS); and diet with 200 or 400 ppm extract of mango seed (ECAR). The addition of BHT or mango extracts did not significantly affect feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion. The addition of BHT and of 400 ppm of ECAR provided low lipid oxidation in fresh meat, measured by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances before storage. Ethanol extract of mango seed, at 200 and 400 ppm dosage, delays lipid oxidation of chicken meat stored for 15 days.Index terms: Gallus gallus, Mangifera indica, natural antioxidants, mangiferin, lipid oxidation, meat quality.
Feeding management of laying hens has been focused on the direct influence of nutrient intake on weight gain, especially at growing phase. This study evaluates nutrient digestibility, performance, development of the digestive tract, body composition, and bone quality of two strains of laying hens fed with different levels of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) during the growing phase from the 7 th to the 12 th week of age. A total of 1,296 birds were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement (two strains x three levels of NDF) with four replicates of 54 birds per treatment. Semi-heavy (Hy Line Brown) and light-strain (Lohman LSL) pullets were allotted to dietary treatments consisting of 14.50, 16.50, and 18.50% NDF. An interaction between strains and NDF levels was observed only for feed/gain ratio and light-strain pullets had lower performance with 18.50% NDF. The increasing levels of NDF in the diet reduced the coefficients of digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen and gross energy, and the values of metabolizable energy. Higher levels of NDF in the diet increased the relative weight of liver and intestines and reduced gizzard weight. It was also observed differences between bone quality and composition of the femur and tibia of light and semiheavy hens. The increase in NDF level in ration for growing phase laying hens above 14.50% decreases the nutrient digestibility and the metabolizable energy of the diet; however, it does not affect the carcass composition, bone quality, feed intake, and weight gain, although it may impair feed conversion of light-strain pullets.Index terms: Growth, insoluble fiber, neutral detergent fiber, strain.
