Cet article vise à évaluer le degré de différenciation des valeurs et attitudes relatives au travail des jeunes travailleurs québécois en regard de celles des travailleurs d’un âge plus avancé. Pour ce faire, nous analysons les trois dimensions essentielles du rapport au travail, à savoir la centralité du travail, sa finalité principale et les attitudes à l’égard des normes managériales dominantes. Nos analyses sont fondées sur les données d’une enquête réalisée en 2007 sous forme de questionnaire auprès de 1 000 travailleurs représentatifs de la population active québécoise âgée de 18 ans et plus et n’étudiant pas à temps plein. L’étude révèle que s’il n’y a pas un hiatus profond quant aux valeurs et aux attitudes des travailleurs selon les groupes d’âge considérés, reste que les jeunes ont tendance à accorder moins d’importance au travail que les plus âgés tout en ayant de moins grandes aspirations associées au travail que ces derniers, cependant que leur adhésion aux normes managériales dominantes est légèrement plus élevée que celle de leurs aînés. Aussi, la stigmatisation des jeunes au chapitre de leurs valeurs et de leurs attitudes à l’égard du travail ne correspond-elle pas à la réalité observée, du moins en ce qui concerne la centralité du travail, sa finalité et les attitudes à l’égard des normes managériales. Pour chacune des dimensions retenues, la situation professionnelle et le niveau de formation semblent plus déterminants de la configuration des valeurs et des attitudes que la classe d’âge.
