Resumo Levando em conta a expansão do ativismo de diversas agências religiosas nas mais variadas arenas públicas nacionais, este artigo visa trabalhar o problema da reconfiguração recente do secularismo brasileiro. A partir da análise de três casos concretos – cerimônia de inauguração do Tempo de Salomão, repercussão midiática de uma pastora transgênera e controvérsias no Supremo Tribunal Federal envolvendo agentes religiosos –, procuraremos demonstrar como as diversas dinâmicas de produção de visibilidade observadas resultam em um novo entendimento do que é “fazer religião” em público e, no limite, modificam a configuração de nossa ordem jurídica secular. Seguindo por esse caminho e observando o modo como a publicização da experiência sacraliza (moraliza) problemas privados tornando-os públicos, constata-se que grande parte da eficácia da linguagem religiosa contemporânea está menos na imposição de uma mensagem do que na qualidade e plasticidade de suas encenações nas diferentes arenas.
Nossa proposta consiste em justapor duas experiências etnográficas, estruturadas por meio da observação da atividade missionária católica contemporânea junto a populações ameríndias, de modo a explorar os rendimentos de conceitos como mediação cultural e código de comunicação para se construirem novas abordagens para pensarmos os processos de comunicação intersimbólicos.

Em meio a 20ª Parada do Orgulho LGBT de São Paulo, realizada no dia 29 de julho de 2016, membros da Igreja da Comunidade Metropolitana (ICM) se posicionaram em frente ao trio elétrico da Secretaria Municipal de Direitos Humanos e Cidadania da Prefeitura de São Paulo. Um lugar não aleatório para uma organização religiosa cristã que se autorepresenta e pretende ser reconhecida, nacional e internacionalmente, como a igreja dos direitos humanos. Tratando-se de um punhado de gente organizada entre faixas e bandeiras que expressavam engajamento com a causa LGBT, o grupo da ICM aguardava o início da movimentação dos 17 trios elétricos que compuseram a vigésima edição da marcha, que neste ano desfilou animada pelo slogan "Lei de identidade de gênero, já! -Todas as pessoas juntas contra a Transfobia!". Comemorando em 2016 uma década de existência em São Paulo e no Brasil, a ICM fazia ali a sua 10ª participação no evento enquanto uma igreja oficialmente instituída. 2No primeiro trio oficial da parada, prevista oficialmente para partir ao meio dia em direção à Praça Roosevelt, ponto final do evento, a drag queen Tchaka comandava a cena marcando posição em relação ao tema ao seu modo laico e caricato. Mas, bem afinada ao tema geral do evento e alçada a uma nova posição de visibilidade após a controvérsia gerada por sua performance na parada do ano anterior, Viviany Beleboni, a transexual que encenou a polêmica crucificação de Cristo em um corpo trans, tratou de recolocar a categoria "religião" no centro das atenções novamente. 3O caminho para tanto foi apostar de novo em símbolos religiosos como meio para se reposicionar no complexo, acalorado e, muitas vezes perigoso, como a mesma experimentou, debate nacional sobre diversidade sexual e identidade de gênero. Viviany, como infelizmente podemos lembrar, acabou voltando às manchetes dos jornais após a repercussão da sua primeira performance pública, mas, dessa última vez, como vítima de um espancamento punitivo, intolerante e transfóbico. 4Nesta parada, de vestido e botas de um dourado metálico futurístico, ela quis incitar seus espectadores com sua retórica performática a refletirem sobre o conflituoso e indefinido Uma igreja em marcha Ponto Urbe, 19 | 2016
Resumo Neste artigo analisamos o caso Maurício, série de enunciações produzidas após o jogador de vôlei Maurício Souza comentar uma imagem em quadrinhos na qual o filho do Super-Homem beija outro rapaz. A partir da observação dos usos práticos das categorias ‘homofobia’ e ‘liberdade de expressão’, demonstramos como ideias concorrentes de democracia informam o debate, que descrevemos a partir da categoria coalizão. Conceituamos coalizões como estruturas comunicacionais que operam em contextos marcados por antagonismos, constituindo posições de aliados e inimigos. Por meio das coalizões chegamos às duas diferentes epistemes que conformam o debate: uma pluralista, organizada na língua da identidade e para a qual a democracia se valida pela inclusão dessas diferenças (anti-Maurício); a outra majoritarista e antipluralista (pró-Maurício), assentada em categorias universalistas, como nação e Deus. Trabalhamos com base em material coletado entre outubro de 2021 e janeiro de 2022, em redes sociais e portais de notícias.
