Objective: to identify contents related to Patient Safety contemplated in the curricular units of a Nursing undergraduate course, according to the teachers who work in it, and to know the teaching methodologies and evaluation strategies used. Method: descriptive case study, carried out with 15 professors of the Nursing undergraduate course of a Brazilian public institution, in 2014, who answered an online questionnaire. For data analysis, the guide of the World Health Organization was used as reference. Results: it was verified that patient safety contents are developed in the undergraduate course, referring to eight topics mentioned in the World Health Organization guide. There was a lack of contents of the topics “What is Patient Safety”, “Why applying human factors is important for Patient Safety”; and “Learning from errors to prevent harm”. The use of different teaching methodologies and evaluation strategies, both traditional and innovative, was identified. Conclusion and implications for the practice: the pedagogical project of the course must be revised, to align content, teaching methodologies and evaluation strategies and to promote the full development of this subject, both in the undergraduate Nursing course and in the other courses of the Health area.

Introducción: La neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica es una infección relacionada con el cuidado de la salud que predomina en las unidades de cuidados intensivos y que compromete la seguridad del paciente. Objetivo: Identificar en la literatura científica los efectos del uso de medidas para la prevención de la neumonía asociada a ventilación mecánica en Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos. Materiales y métodos: Se llevó a cabo una revisión integrativa con los estudios disponibles en las bases de datos en línea Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Biblioteca Cochrane, Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Scientific Electronic Library Online y Scopus. La búsqueda de artículos se realizó en estas bases de datos entre el 2 de junio y el 18 de julio de 2018 en inglés y portugués sin límite de tiempo de publicación a través de los descriptores DeCS y MeSH. Dos investigadores independientes llevaron a cabo el proceso de selección de artículos, de los que se extrajo la información relacionada con el año, país de origen, objetivo(s), grado de recomendación científica y tipo de estudio, intervención, conformidad del uso de medidas de prevención, principales resultados y conclusiones. Resultados: De las 20 publicaciones analizadas, 13 eran de diferentes países y en la mayoría de los estudios (n=18) se encontró que el uso de las medidas preventivas redujo significativamente la incidencia de neumonía asociada a ventilación mecánica, con un impacto en la reducción de la mortalidad, la duración de la estancia y costos hospitalarios. Los principales componentes elegidos para armar el paquete de medidas de prevención fueron la elevación de la cabeza y el protocolo de higiene bucodental. Conclusión: Aunque existe la posibilidad de realizar estudios con un mayor grado de recomendación, los datos obtenidos en varios países revelan que el uso de las medidas de prevención tiene un efecto positivo en la neumonía asociada a la ventilación, así como en la mejora del desempeño a nivel institucional, ya que reduce los costos hospitalarios. Objectives: to know the meaning attributed by family members to the health safety of pediatric patients, with attention to the possibilities of their collaboration. Methods: this qualitative study was conducted with eighteen family members of children hospitalized in a pediatric unit, from January to July 2018. Symbolic Interactionism was used as a theoretical framework, and Inductive Content Analysis as method. Results: child hospitalization poses risks to possible incidents and adverse events. Participants and professionals are responsible for patient safety. Thus, their actions focus on error prevention. Therefore, they seek information and observe in a vigil way professional care in classic aspects of safety. They conceive essential and favoring safety the approach centered on children and family members. Final Considerations: family members recognized the chances of errors and care damage, identified themselves as support in minimizing damage and were in partnership with the professional, increasing chances of effecting safety.
