This study aimed to verify the effects of sexual abuse and maternal abandonment and to explore the utility of the Rorschach method to understand the victims' interior life. The qualitative analysis focused on 12 protocols of children between six and eight years of age, including five girls and seven boys from Brazilian institutions. The presence of recursive responses of inanimate movement (m), morbid (MOR), aggressive (AG), sexual (Sx) contents and anatomy (An) was evidenced. The results suggest traumatic experiences with primary objects, hostile and aggressive human interactions, damaged self-perception and early abusive sexualization. The findings illustrate the harmful effects of sexual abuse and maternal abandonment in child development, and ratify the use of the Rorschach for evaluation processes in an ideographic approach, beyond the nomothetic perspective.

A avaliação psicológica e da personalidade abrange uma complexidade de fatores associados a limitações e abrangências para esta atuação. Por meio do uso do Rorschach, pode-se analisar importantes aspectos da personalidade bem como tendências de comportamento, fatores associados a quadros psicopatológicos e tolerância e capacidade para lidar com o estresse -para mencionar alguns exemplos. Esta pesquisa apresenta algumas discussões resultantes de dados preliminares de estudos normativos com o Rorschach pelo R-PAS (Rorschach Performance Assessment System) em crianças, considerando importantes repercussões do uso deste sistema à nossa população.

Children's mentalizing capacity may influence the therapeutic process in psychodynamic therapy. The literature points to the need to tailor the therapeutic intervention to the particular configuration of clinical and developmental problems presented by the children and recommends a shift in technique in the case of severely disturbed or traumatized patients with impaired mentalizing capacity. The aim of this study was to explore the therapeutic process in psychodynamic therapy with school-age children with different kinds of difficulties and mentalizing profiles. A longitudinal design based on the systematic case study method was adopted. Three children with different baseline mentalizing capacities and their psychotherapists participated. Two hundred seventy-three psychotherapy sessions were analyzed using the Child Psychotherapy Q-Set (CPQ) in order to identify the relationship patterns between patient and therapist. Different interaction structures were identified.When the child presented with a more developed mentalizing capacity at baseline, the treatment was more similar to a standard psychodynamic approach. When mentalization capacity was impaired, more directive, supportive and empathic interventions were observed. A child's capacity for mentalization appears to impact the therapeutic process, with the adoption of certain therapeutic approaches and specific techniques depending on the child's own baseline capacity to mentalize.
