Prevalence and factors associated with overweight among Brazilian children younger than 2 years

Abstract: Objective: To describe the prevalence of overweight, analyze its progression from 1989 to 2006 and identify factors associated with it among children younger than two years in Brazil.Methods: Data for the Women and Children National Demography and Health Survey (PNDS 2006) were collected using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. “…Entretanto, no contexto dessas variáveis, mais do que confrontar esses resultados com os de outros estudos, há que enfatizar a importância do direcionamento de ações na etapa compreendida desde a concepção até os 24 meses, pois constitui a fase oportuna de evitar a baixa estatura 5 , tendo nas creches um espaço privilegiado para oferecer cuidados de forma integral e de qualidade que protejam o potencial de crescimento 28 .
