The objective of this study was to evaluate linear correlations between feed intake and ingestive behavior of feedlot lambs. Were used ten castrated male Santa Inês sheep with a body weight of 20 ± 4.38 kg, at four months of age. The experiment lasted 50 days, with five 10-d periods, in which an evaluation of feed intake and ingestive behavior was undertaken per period, totaling 50 replicates. The diet was composed of concentrate ingredients only. The analyses were performed by Pearson’s linear correlations and the t test, and means were considered significant when P≤0.05. Intake showed positive correlations (P≤0.05) with the times spent feeding and ruminating and total chewing time, and a negative correlation (P≤0.05) with other activities. Positive correlations were found between the number of feeding periods, number of other activities and the time per rumination period with intake (P≤0.05). A negative correlation was found between the feed efficiency of dry matter and the intake, as well as the other nutrients (P≤0.05). The behavioral characteristics related to feed intake appear to be correlated, which allows for inferences through the study of these variables. The activities related to nutrient intake, with respect to time and efficiency, can be expressed directly through the animal behavior.

ResumoObjetivou-se avaliar a inclusão de ureia em substituição do farelo de soja na dieta de vacas F1 Holandês x Zebu sobre parâmetros digestivos, produtivos e econômicos. Os níveis de substituição foram de 0, 33, 66 e 100%. Foram utilizadas 8 vacas distribuídas em dois quadrados latinos 4 x 4, com 4 períodos de 18 dias. As amostras de alimentos, sobras, fezes e leite foram analisadas em laboratório e a análise econômica foi realizada por custeio direto. O consumo de matéria seca, proteína bruta, fibra em detergente neutro, carboidratos não fibrosos e nutrientes digestíveis totais, assim como a digestibilidade não foram influenciados pelos níveis de ureia nas dietas. Já a digestibilidade da proteína bruta aumentou linearmente. A produção de leite, ganho de peso, escore de condição corporal e a eficiência de uso do nitrogênio dietético não foram alterados, favorecendo economicamente o uso da maior inclusão de ureia nas dietas. Concluiu-se que a substituição total do farelo de soja pela ureia na dieta de vacas primíparas F1 Holandês x Zebu, não modifica os parâmetros digestivos, mantém o escore de condição corporal, permite o uso do nitrogênio de forma eficiente e é economicamente viável em relação ao uso de farelo de soja, para uma produção média de 10 kg de leite dia.Palavras-chave: consumo, digestibilidade, eficiência, produção de leite. AbstractIt was evaluated the inclusion of urea in place of soybean meal in the diet of cows F1 Holstein x Zebu on digestive, productive and economic parameters. The substitution levels of soybean meal by urea were 0, 33, 66 and 100%. It was used eight cows distributed in a two Latin squares 4 x 4, with four periods of 18 days. The feed, orts, milk and feces samples were analyzed in the laboratory and the economic analysis was performed by direct costing. The DM intake, CP, NDF, NFC and TDN as well as the digestibility were not influenced by levels of urea in the diets. The CP digestibility showed increasing linear effect. Milk production, gaining weight, body condition score and the dietary nitrogen use efficiency were unchanged, favoring the use of the economically most urea inclusion in diets. It was concluded that the total replacement of soybean meal by urea in the diet of primiparous cows F1 Holstein x Zebu, does not modify the digestive parameters of animals, keeps the body condition score, allows the use of nitrogen efficiently and economically viable regarding the use of soybean meal to an average production of 10 kg of milk day.Keywords: intake, digestibility, efficiency, milk production. The feeding behavior of grazing ruminants has been used to guide and underpin many discussions related to the intake found in research. Therefore, the measurements of these correlations can break some paradigms, because probably not all behavioral variables are correlated with nutritional parameters. This study aimed to evaluate the linear correlations between feeding behavior and intake of dairy cows supplemented on pasture. Twelve Holstein × Zebu crossbred cows, at 100 to 150 days in milk, with an average body weight of 466.9 ± 33.2 kg, received concentrate supplementation to provide variations in their feed intake and feeding behavior. Their feed intake and feeding behavior were measured in four evaluations held every 17 days during the experimental period. Pearson's linear correlation analyses were carried out using the "t" test, with values considered significant at 5% probability level. The grazing and rumination times and the time spent performing other activities did not have significant correlations with the intake variables (P>0.05); however, the time spent feeding at the trough had a low but positive correlation with the intake of non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC) (P<0.05). The number of grazing periods showed a low negative correlation (P<0.05) with the intakes of crude protein and NFC. However, the correlation coefficients were low in relation to the feeding behavior variables, because of factors linked to characteristics of the concentrate, such as appearance and texture, which were not controlled in the experiment.inforMAtion Cronología del artículo. Por conseguinte, as medições destas correlações podem quebrar alguns paradigmas, porque provavelmente nem todas as variáveis de comportamento estão correlacionadas com os parâmetros nutricionais. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as correlações lineares entre comportamento alimentar e ingestão de vacas leiteiras suplementadas em pastagem. Utilizou-se 12 vacas mestiças Holandês x Zebu, com 100 a 150 dias de lactação com peso corporal de 466,9 ± 33,2 kg PV. Foi mensurado o consumo da dieta e o comportamento ingestivo dos animais em quatro avaliações a cada 17 dias durante o período experimental. Foram feitas análises de correlações lineares de Pearson utilizando o teste "t", sendo consideradas significativas a 5% de probabilidade. O tempo de pastejo, ruminação e de outras atividades não apresentaram correlações significativas com as variáveis de consumo (P>0,05), entretanto tempo de alimentação no cocho apresentou correlação positiva baixa com o consumo de carboidratos não fibrosos (CNF) (P<0,05).
