Chemical Investigation and Bioactivity Screening of Salvia cassia Extracts

Abstract: In this study the antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities of the crude ethanol extract, as well as the dichloromethane and water extracts obtained from partitioning of the crude ethanol extract, of the plant Salvia cassia Samuelss ex. Rech. Fil, were determined. The extracts were screened for their total phenolic and flavonoid contents. The dichloromethane extract, which showed higher inhibition of lipid peroxidation, higher metal chelating capacity and also a higher flavonoid content than the other extr… Show more

“…capacity in parallel with the literature. As indicated the literature, Salvia species exhibit strong antioxidant activity due to their rosmarinic acid content (Halfon, Cetin, Kokdil, & Topcu, 2019;Topcu et al, 2007). There are many studies in the literature regarding the high antioxidant potential of rosmarinic acid (Ertas et al, 2014;Ertas Yilmaz & Firat, 2015).…”

“…The best ionization of small and relatively polar compounds has been achieved with the ESI source. The ions between m / z 85–1500 were scanned in high-resolution mode of instrument [ 104 , 105 ]. Identification of the compounds was accomplished by comparing the retention times of the standard compounds (in the purity range of 95–99%; see section chemicals) and HRMS data of Bezmialem Vakif University, Drug Application and Research Center Library (ILMER).…”

“…This high antioxidant property of the cultivated samples was in parallel with both total phenolic and LC-MS/MS results. In the results of the previous studies, there has a lot of information about the antioxidant properties of S. macrantha extracts, especially compounds such as rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, hesperidin, astragalin, naringenin and luteolin were determined as very high antioxidative compounds [37,38]. Therefore, the high antioxidant potential of the culture samples could be related with these phenolic compounds.…”
