Atividade antimicrobiana in vitro de produtos vegetais em otite externa aguda

Abstract: Acut e Otitis Externa is an inflammation of the outer auditory meatus, and according to popular saying, medicinal plant extracts can be used in its treatment. Aim: to assess the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the following plants: Aleolanthus suaveolens; Caryophyllus aromaticus; Cymbopogon citratus; Matricaria chamomila; Pithecellobium avaremotemo; Plectranthus amboinicus and Ruta graveolens on the germs that cause otitis externa. Materials and Methods: the minimum inhibitory concentration of extracts and … Show more

“…For instance, the antimicrobial effects of hydroalcoholic extracts from the leaves of Plectranthus amboinicus have been reported against S. aureus with a MIC of 9.3 mg/mL [35]. In another study [36], seven out of ten S. aureus strains obtained from exudates of otitis externa were sensitive to P. amboinicus extracts at concentrations ranging from 1.25 to 5.0 mg/mL. In particular, the essential oil of P. amboinicus was active against two of the strains tested at 4% and 8% (w/V).…”
