Unitermos: Óleo de copaíba, Copaifera multijuga, Leguminosae, atividade antimicrobiana, MIC.ABSTRACT: "Antimicrobial activity of the oil-resin produced by copaiba copaifera multijuga Hayne (Leguminosae)". The research of plants with medicinal purposes has great importance for the medical community, one of these is the oil-resin extracted of copaíba, Copaifera multijuga Hayne, which is natural of the Amazon region where a great diversity of this species is found. Its medicinal use, the way it is widely spread out, becomes it the phytopharmacs most used and known by the poor populations at the North region of Brazil, being used as diuretic, laxative, antitetanic, antiblenorragic, anti-rheumatic, anti-septic for urinary system, anti-inflammatory, anti-cough, cicatrizing and medicine for the combat to the cancer. The present work shows the evaluation results of this oil antimicrobial activity by the technique of diffusion in agar in Muller-Hinton ambience. The evaluated strains were: Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, 25923 Staphylococcus aureus ATCC and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027. The plates were incubated in hot houses for 24 h under temperature of 35 ºC. Amoxicillin antibiotics (AMO-10 mg/disco), cloranfenicol (CLO-30 mg/ disco) and tetracycline used (TET-30 mg/disco) as being standard. The results showed that the oil has the capacity to inhibit the growth of three evaluated bacteria, presenting a minimum inhibitory concentration of 1,56, 3,12 and 12.5% for E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, respectively.
ABSTRACT: "Antimicrobial activity of essential oils produced by Baccharis dracunculifolia D.C. and Baccharis uncinella D.C. (Asteraceae)". Essential oils obtained from the native plantsBaccharis dracunculifolia and Baccharis uncinella, known also as "óleo de vassoura", are used in the perfumery industry, providing diverse perfumes with exotic aromas. Besides several studies about the biological activities of these species highlight the allelopathic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and antiinfl ammatory effects. The broom is a bushy plant which occurs spontaneously in Brazil as well as in the other countries from Mercosul. The oil composition depends on the geographical region and on the concentration of oxygenated blends, highlighting the nerolidol and the sphatulenol. Essential oils obtained from these two species by the hydrodistillation process were assessed by the diffusion method in paper disc, in Petri plaques containing Müeller-Hinton agar, with bacteria suspensions, previously adjusted to the tube 0,5 of Mac Farland scale of four strains which came from the American Type Culture Collection: Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Discs containing different volumes of the essential oils (1, 3, 5 and 10 (μL/disc) were added to plaques and incubated at 36 ºC for 24...
Brewer's yeast was subjected to analytical studies to determine the chemical composition of its biomass. To this end, traditional methods of analysis were used to determine ribonucleic acid (RNA), mineral elements, amino acids and fatty acids. The results showed that proteins (49.63%), carbohydrates (31.55%), minerals (7.98%), RNA (8.12%) and total lipids (4.64%) predominate in the biomass composition. The amino acid profile of the protein is suitable for human nutrition, exceeding the recommendations from the FAO/WHO/UNU for essential amino acids. It is particularly rich in lysine and could be recommended as protein supplement in cereals. It was also observed that the yeast was an excellent source of some microelements, such as selenium, chromium, nickel and lithium; that it is also a good source of dietary fiber, particularly soluble fibers; and that the content of lipids was low, with a predominance of saturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids with 10, 16 and 18 carbon atoms.
Unitermos: Plantas medicinais, óleos essenciais, antibióticos, uso associado, interferência, Baccharis drancunculifolia.ABSTRACT: "Interference from extracts of Baccharis dracunculifolia DC., Asteraceae, on the activity of antibiotics used in the clinic". The objective of this study was to investigate the interference of the polar and apolar fraction as well the essential oil of Baccharis dracunculifolia DC., Asteraceae, about the antibiotics effects used in the medic clinic. The essays were accomplished with twenty nine antibiotics in association with two extracts [one polar fraction (HA 50%) and one of apolar fraction (EA 25%)] and with essential oil. The method used was the diffusion one in solid mean using the antibiotic discs, which were acquired commercially. The results showed interference in the hoped action of the antibiotic when associated to the extract and to the B. dracunculifolia essential oil. In some cases there was no alteration of the antibiotic action, however, in most of the cases there was either a synergic or an antagonic interference of the antibiotic action. These outcomes have showed that the use of derived products or plants can interfere on the effectiveness of the antibiotic use in the clinic treatment, in some situations.
