Introduction: the infant hospitalisation may put at risk the normal development of the children due to the breaking of their routine and the adjustment to the new reality process. There are several initiatives to promote spaces in hospitals so that the children can have contact with recreational activities. There are many variables that may influence the children's attitude towards the possibility of playful activities, among them the involvement of the accompanying persons. It is essential to learn their interpretation of the playing activities in the hospital context and which characteristics are associated with this activity in order to reach better planning of the assistance. Objective: this study aimed to examine the opinion of the accompanying persons on promoting play during the children's hospitalisation. Methods: therefore, the accompanying persons answered questionnaires during that period of hospitalisation. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results: 65 mothers of hospitalised children, mostly accompanied patients aged from 2-6 years old. All of them confirmed that the children should attend the playroom since it helps in recovery, providing relief from suffering, calming them and thus relieving tensions. Conclusion: as a conclusion, the accompanying persons highlight the importance of the playroom in the context of hospitalisation of children to soothe its effects of and help in the development of the children.

Objectives: To describe the use of therapeutic play (BT) in preparing preschool children for the experience of chemotherapy on an outpatient basis and to identify their manifested reactions during the session of BT, in relation to the procedures performed in outpatient chemotherapy session. Methods: A descriptive exploratory, quantitative approach, conducted with 30 preschool children, receiving outpatient chemotherapy treatment. Data were collected through observation of children and interviews with the individuals accompanying them. Results: After the preparation with BT, children demonstrated more positive behaviors, cooperating with the procedures, and working with professionals (93.3%), with relaxed posture (93.3%), establishing a bond of trust with the professional (76.6%) and smiling while playing (70%). Conclusion: The use of BT presents great value for facilitating more effective interaction between the adult and child, fostering understanding of pre-school, making his stay at the clinic more pleasant and relaxed. Métodos: Pesquisa descritiva exploratória, de abordagem quantitativa, realizada com 30 crianças pré-escolares, submetidas ao tratamento de quimioterapia ambulatorial. Os dados foram coletados por meio da observação das crianças e entrevistas com os acompanhantes. Resultados: Após o preparo com o BT, as crianças demonstraram comportamentos mais positivos, cooperando com os procedimentos e colaborando com os profissionais (93,3%), apresentando postura relaxada (93,3%), estabelecendo um vínculo de confiança com o profissional (76,6%) e sorrindo durante as brincadeiras (70%). Conclusão: O uso do BT apresenta grande valor como facilitador de uma interação mais efetiva do adulto com a criança, favorecendo a compreensão do pré-escolar, tornando sua permanência no ambulatório mais agradável e descontraída. Introduction: Congenital heart defects can often be corrected through surgery, providing for parents to expect a normal life, but the hospitalization experience often early, causes more pain, for which surgery is the worst moment.Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the experience of families of children undergoing cardiac surgery and to identify the coping resources used by the families.Methods: A qualitative approach was the metodology of choice for this study, which took place with six semistructured interviews and 100 hours of observation. Thematic analysis was used to understand the data.Results: The results were categorized into four themes: feelings and emotions facing the illness of the child; heart disease under the watchful mother, mother and child on the ICU and coping resources. The speech of mothers demonstrated the importance of the heart due to its symbolism that enhances their emotional fragility in the face of illness. Religiosity and a solid social network of support were contributing factors for the maintenance of the adaptive behaviors. The presence of mothers in all stages of the child's treatment contributed to minimizing the suffering generated by hospitalization. Conclusion:The experience of families was characterized by ambivalent feelings such as fear of death, guilt and helplessness against the different stages of treatment. The anguish and anxiety prevailed in the face of unknown situations when information were required before therapeutic procedures, hospital routines and the actual life situation of the families.Descriptors: Adaptation, Psychological.
