Enzyme activity in soybean seeds produced under foliar application of manganese

Abstract: Several factors affect the quality of soybean seeds, including the mineral nutrition of plants. Manganese (Mn) is an important nutrient because it has as one of its functions the enzyme activation. The aim of this study was to evaluate enzyme activity in seeds of soybean cultivars produced with foliar application of different doses of Mn. The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) (Federal University of Lavras) in randomized blocks with three replications and 4 x 4 x 2 factorial… Show more

“…Accordingly, seeds that present a higher expression of such enzyme have a better physiological quality, as proven by the physiological tests in this study and also confirmed by Carvalho et al (2014a). Carvalho et al (2014c) also observed a higher alcohol dehydrogenase expression in seeds that presented a better physiological quality.…”

“…The seed vigor characteristics decreased after a delay of 10 days and germination especially after 15 days (Figures 2 and 3). Esterase is linked to lipid degradation, an important process for soybean seed germination (Carvalho et al 2014c). The greatest increase in the esterase enzyme expression may be related to greater germination values.…”

“…Thus, the seeds become less susceptible to the deleterious action of acetaldehyde with the higher ADH activity (Zhang et al, 1994). Carvalho et al (2014b) observed greater ADH expressions on seeds from soy cultivars that showed greater physiological quality, which may be related to the maintenance of the germination metabolism of the seeds from the Everglades cultivar stored at high temperatures (35 o C) for 120 days (Table 2). …”
