Purpose -The purpose of this study was to analyze the network structure of automotive companies linked by cross-shareholding, joint ventures, manufacturing contracts and alliances, from 2004 to 2012. The study also explored how the network structure affects the competition in the field.Design/methodology/approach -The sample involved 3695 dyads. Based on this data, it was possible to build and assess networks using Gephi and UCINET software. The study considered network analysis metrics such as centrality, group and network densities temporally. Thus, associated with a contextual and longitudinal analysis, the construction of sociograms allowed visualization of the interactional structure and the automakers' position in the field.Findings -Results showed that the internationalization and growth of automakers and suppliers are made possible through these relationships among companies (cross-shareholding, joint ventures, manufacturing contracts and alliances). Connections may generate greater power, access to resources and market opportunities. It also enhanced the elaboration of inferences about how these resources influence the competition in the field.Originality/value -The increasing importance of this relational resource shapes the industry competitive structure, which is composed of cooperative and competitive relationships found in meso-level orders.

Sob o enfoque das teorias da Nova Economia Institucional (NEI), o presente trabalho tem por objetivo verificar a inserção comercial da agricultura familiar no Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (Pnae), no Território Rural Médio Araguaia, Goiás (GO), com a finalidade de se compreender até que ponto a NEI é útil para se entender as questões e peculiaridades que envolvem os agricultores familiares. Por meio do método dialético, da pesquisa bibliográfica e dos dados obtidos a partir da porcentagem de aquisição da agricultura familiar via Pnae dos 21 (vinte e um) municípios do Território Médio Araguaia, GO, através das sedes das subsecretarias estaduais de educação nos municípios de Iporá, Piranhas e Jussara, nos anos de 2014 e 2015, foi possível verificar o comportamento dos agentes e dos agricultores envolvidos no Pnae, demonstrando como a racionalidade limitada e o oportunismo dos agentes, a assimetria de informação entre e dentro das organizações, os custos de transação, a especificidade dos ativos, os contratos e a estrutura de governança podem ajudar a compreender e explicar os processos econômicos dos agricultores familiares. Assim, verificou-se que as políticas públicas de assessoria às organizações da agricultura familiar, como o Núcleo de Extensão em Desenvolvimento Territorial (Nedet), são importantes para a efetivação da inclusão produtiva dos agricultores familiares, podendo ainda problematizar as transações com uma maior precisão ao analisá-las com foco na teoria sustentada pela NEI, embora a lógica produtiva dos agricultores familiares não se concentre apenas no viés econômico.

Purpose-The objective of this paper is to improve the method for the strategic planning and management of food and agribusiness chains. Design/methodology/approach-Several research methodologies are used to develop the ChainPlan methodology. The theory (literature review) provided the basis on which to build a preliminary framework ten years prior. Then, empirical application of the initial method provided insights regarding needed additions to and subtractions from the original method. These insights, combined with continued research on advances in the theories, contributed to further development of the ChainPlan methodology Findings-A method is proposed to fill the theoretical gap regarding the strategic planning applied to agribusiness chains. The ChainPlan method is a theoretical-empirical method, built based on the academic literature and perfected over the years through its application in several productive chains Originality/value-Many authors have proposed a method to build strategic plans in organizations, but when planning agribusiness chains is concerned, the academic discussion revolves around the coordination of agribusiness chains and analyses to be applied in this sector.
