The search for forage cultivars that provide higher yields with quality in periods of forage shortage, whether in isolated or mixed management, is essential for livestock stability. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the forage performance and nutritive value of rye cultivars mixtures (BRS Progresso, BRS Serrano and Temprano) from different production cycles compared to the isolated management of rye, dual-purpose wheat cvs. (BRS Tarumã and BRS Pastoreio) and black oat cv. Embrapa 139 Neblina as controls. The experiment was conducted at a randomized complete block design, with four rye associations and the isolated cultivation of wheat, oat, and rye. Dry matter (DM) yield and nutritive value, such as content of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and crude protein (CP) content were evaluated for each cut and total values. There was difference (P<0.001) in total DM, the highest yield was in single cultivation as well as mixtures with Temprano. BRS Serrano and BRS Progresso and their mixture had lower leaf blade percentage in the total DM. There were differences (P<0.05) in NDF concentration (55.1 to 70.60%), ADF (15.2 to 34.7%), and CP (27.4 to 36.8%) levels along harvests. Among cultivars, Temprano showed the highest proportion of leaf blades and total DM yield.

RESUMO Avaliaram-se as doses de nitrogênio 0, 60, 120 e 240kg ha-1 sobre a composição bromatológica e os parâmetros da cinética de degradação ruminal da aveia branca obtida de dois anos de cultivo (2013-2014). Foram realizadas as análises de matéria seca, matéria mineral (MM), proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo, fibra em detergente neutro (aFDNmo), lignina, carboidratos solúveis (CHOs) e proteína insolúvel em detergente ácido (PIDA). Não foi observado efeito da adubação nitrogenada sobre as variáveis em nenhum dos anos de cultivo. As variáveis bromatológicas foram influenciadas pelos fatores ambientais. A cinética de degradação ruminal foi correspondente à composição bromatológica. No ano de 2013, foram observados valores superiores para as variáveis PB, MM, PIDA, CHOs e carboidratos não fibrosos, o que influenciou positivamente nos parâmetros da cinética de produção de gás in vitro, Vf 1 e k 2. A composição da cultivar em 2014 tendeu a maiores teores de aFDNmo, lignina e carboidratos totais e a valores superiores para os parâmetros Vf 2 e L. O parâmetro k 1 não foi significativo nos períodos avaliados. Em 2014 o valor nutritivo foi negativamente influenciado pelo atraso na semeadura e pela soma de períodos de restrição hídrica combinados com a elevação da temperatura.

Morphological characteristics, dry matter production, and nutritional values of winter forage and grains were evaluated. This study was conducted from April 24, 2012 to November 7, 2013 in the Western Paraná State University (UNIOESTE), Marechal Cândido Rondon, Brazil. Pastures under one grazing and non-grazing conditions were evaluated under 120 kg N ha-1 fertilization split into two 60 kg N ha-1 treatments. Two pastures received 40 kg N ha-1 three times. IPR 126 oat, BRS Tarumã wheat, and IPR 111 triticale were the test crops. Topdressing with 40 or 60 kg N ha-1 did not change morphological characteristics until 60 d after sowing. Pastures under non-grazing that received 120 kg N ha-1 treatments were taller than the controls, whereas those under grazing that received 80 or 120 kg N ha-1 presented with higher leaf production than did the controls. Total average dry matter (DM) production in 2012 and 2013 was, respectively, 5,275 kg ha-1 and 6,270 kg ha-1 for oat, 3,166 kg ha-1 and 7,423 kg ha-1 for wheat, and 4,552 kg ha-1 and 7,603 kg ha-1 for triticale. Split N fertilization did not cause differences in the levels of crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) in the forage. Nevertheless, increases in in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) were observed in oat and wheat receiving 60 kg N ha-1 during the first graze. IVDMD did not change in oat, wheat, and triticale forages receiving 80 or 120 kg N ha-1 during the second graze. Grazing did not affect the nutritional values of wheat and triticale grains, but reduced those of oat. Therefore, the results of the present study suggest that grazing lengthens the crop cycles, and so allow the staggered sowing of summer crops.
