Show more

“…Additionally, the use of zinc has been associated with improvements in seed vigor and germination (Ribeiro and Santos, 1996), once this micronutrient acts as an enzymatic activator in lipids and proteins metabolic pathways (Prado et al, 2007). Furthermore, coat adding a polymer to form a thin layer on the seed surface allows better distribution of active ingredients (Baudet and Peres, 2004), reduce the amount of chemicals used (Karam et al, 2007) and minimize the leaching of these products from treated seeds (Avelar et al, 2012).…”

“…Zinc and boron are the micronutrients which are most deficient in Brazilian soils (Ribeiro et al, 1994) and it is estimated that around 170 mm hectares of soils with cerrado vegetation in Central Brazil are deficient in zinc and about 108 mm hectares deficient in boron (Lopes, 1984). Deficiencies were also found in other Brazilian states (Ribeiro and Santos, 1996) and this problem may be corrected with seed treatment based on the principle that the seed reserves are an important source of zinc for preventing the development of initial symptoms of deficiency in plants.…”
