ABSTRACT. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the biomass yield and chemical composition of the essential oil of clove basil in response to doses of broiler litter (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 t ha -1 ) added in presence of triple superphosphate (200 kg ha -1 ) or without it. Before the first harvest, the height of the plants increased significantly (34.42 cm) when 15 tonnes ha -1 broiler litter were added to the soil. However, after resprouting, the plant heights ranged only as a function of the vegetative cycle, with maximum height (76.0 cm) observed at 60 days. Phosphate fertilization also significantly influenced the leaf area (1.771 cm 2 plant -1 ) during the first harvest. The fresh weight of leaves increased linearly in response to the addition of broiler litter (20 ton ha -1 ) with maximum yields of 1,709 and 7,140 kg ha -1 during the first harvest and regrowth, respectively. On average, the oil content of the leaves was 0.7%, with maximum performance (3.8 L ha -1 ) when 20 tonnes ha -1 of broiler litter were added on the soil. Eugenol was found to be the major compound of the essential oil (71.65%).Key words: clove basil, chemical composition, medicinal plant, organic residue, triple superphosphate.RESUMO. Produção de biomassa e composição do óleo essencial de Ocimum gratissimum L. cultivado em solo com cama-de-frango e fósforo. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a produção de biomassa e a composição do óleo essencial da alfavaca-cravo cultivada com adição ao solo de cama-de-frango de corte, na ausência ou presença de fósforo. Foram estudadas cinco doses de cama-de-frango semi-decomposta (0, 5, 10, 15 e 20 t ha -1 ), na ausência ou presença de fósforo (200 kg ha -1 ), na forma de superfosfato triplo. A altura das plantas na primeira colheita foi maior sob a dose de 15 t ha -1 de cama-de-frango (34,42 cm), ou sem o uso de fósforo (32,4 cm); na rebrota, a altura variou apenas em função do ciclo, sendo máxima (76,0 cm) aos 60 dias após a rebrota. A adubação fosfatada influenciou significativamente a área foliar da primeira colheita, que foi maior com fósforo (1.771 cm 2 planta -1 ). As produções de massas frescas de folhas cresceram linearmente com as doses de cama-de-frango, com máximas de 1.709 e 7.140 kg ha -1 na primeira colheita e na rebrota, respectivamente, sob 20 t ha -1 . O teor de óleo essencial foi em média de 0,7% e o rendimento máximo de 3,8 L ha -1 sob a dose de 20 t ha -1 de cama-de-frango; o principal constituinte foi o eugenol, com teor médio de 71,65%.Palavras-chave: alfavaca-cravo, composição química, planta medicinal, resíduo orgânico, superfosfato triplo.

In the production of quality plant, it is important to consider the growing substrate since it provides plants with very important physical and chemical characteristics of the soil. Many organic materials of vegetal or animal origin have been used in mixtures of substrates for plant production. This study evaluated the development, quality and physiological components of Conilon coffee plants as a function of substrates containing organic materials of different origins. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, in a randomized block design with five treatments: T-Control treatment with 100% of soil and the other treatments with 85% of soil and 15% of organic matter derived from urban waste compost, mature cattle manure, dairy residue, and tannery sludge. Development, quality and physiological characteristics of plants were evaluated. All sources of organic matter favored the development of the Conilon coffee plants in relation to the plant receiving no organic matter in the substrate. Dehydrated tanning sludge in the proportion of 15% provided inferior plant performance compared with treatments with the other organic sources and a greater production of flavonoids. The treatments T-Compound, T-Dairy, and T-Manure provided better results than the other treatments for most of the evaluated characteristics, and can be recommended as components of substrates in the production of Conilon coffee plants.

Fertilization of the soil with organic fertilizers has been gaining importance within the concept of sustainable crop production. This study aimed evaluates the effects of dosages of cattle and poultry manure on Achillea millefolium L. as regards the vegetative growth and the content and chemical composition of its essential oil. For the cattle manure fertilization the dosages evaluated were: 1) soil with no fertilizer; 2) soil + 3.0 kg m -2 ; 3) soil + 6.0 kg m -2 ; 4) soil + 9.0 kg m -2 and 5) soil + 12.0 kg m -2 . For fertilization with poultry manure: 1) soil without fertilizer; 2) soil + 1.5 kg m -2 ; 3) soil + 3.0 kg m -2 ; 4) soil + 4.5 kg m -2 and 5) soil + 6.0 kg m -2 . The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications per treatment and four plants per experimental plot. Harvesting took place at 110 days and the following variables were measured: shoot and root dry biomass; root to shoot ratio and the content, yield and chemical composition of the essential oil. Data were submitted to variance and regression analyses. A. millefolium has more intense response in fertilization with poultry manure than to that of cattle, where the dosage of 6 kg m -2 presented the greatest shoot dry weight and highest yield of essential oil. Without regard to fertilization, the essential oil of A. millefolium consists mainly of chamazulene, with the applied treatments not significantly interfering in the oil chemical composition and content.RESUMO -A fertilização dos solos com adubos orgânicos tem adquirido importância do ponto de vista da concepção de produção vegetal sustentável. Foi objetivo deste trabalho avaliar os efeitos de dosagens de esterco bovino e avícola em Achillea millefolium L. no crescimento vegetativo, teor e composição química do óleo essencial. Na fertilização com o esterco bovino avaliaram-se as doses: 1) Solo sem adubação; 2) solo + 3,0 kg m -2 ; 3) solo + 6,0 kg m -2 ; 4) solo + 9,0 kg m -2 ; 5) solo + 12,0 kg m -2 . Na adubação com esterco avícola: 1) solo sem adubação; 2) solo + 1,5 kg m -2 ; 3) solo + 3,0 kg m -2 ; 4) solo + 4,5 kg m -2 e 5) solo + 6,0 kg m -2 . O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições por tratamento e quatro plantas por parcela experimental. A colheita ocorreu aos 110 dias e avaliaram-se as biomassas secas da parte aérea e raiz, razão raiz/parte aérea, teor, rendimento e composição química do óleo essencial. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e de regressão. A. millefolium responde com maior intensidade a adubação com esterco avícola que com a bovina, onde a dose de 6 kg m -2 apresentou o maior acúmulo de biomassa seca da parte aérea e maior rendimento de óleo essencial. Independente da adubação das plantas, o óleo essencial da A. millefolium é constituído majoritariamente por camazuleno e os tratamentos aplicados não interferiram expressivamente na composição e teor dos constituintes químicos do óleo.Palavras-chave: Achillea millefollium L..
