Cutting type (with a wound; with a node or an internode in the basal portion), indolbutiric acid concentrations (IBA) (zero, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 mg/L) and leaf area (zero; 25; 50; 75 and 100 cm2) effects have been evaluated in semihardwood cuttings of grapevine rootstocks. Cutting type has not significantly affected neither rooting percentage nor leaf retention, but a higher root number/cutting has been found in `Jales' (with a wound) and in `Campinas' (with a node in the basal portion). Similar results have occurred as to the IBA concentrations used, however, the higher ones have led to increase in cutting mortality. No rooting has been observed in leafless cuttings but trends of increasing budding and decreasing mortality have been detected in the presence of the higher leaf areas. Plants resulting from semihardwood cuttings have shown stalk diameter inadequate for winter grafting. Finally, results have indicated that rooting semihardwood cuttings is effective for rapid multiplication of grapevine rootstocks but does not allow grafting in the same year
POST HARVEST BEHAVIOR OF STRAWBERRY FRUITS AFTER PRE HARVEST TREATMENT WITH CHITOSAN AND ACIBENZOLAR-S-METHYLABSTRACT -The use of inductors of resistance in plants represents an alternative and a promising method to control fruit rots at post harvest. The experiment was carried out at Federal Technological University of Paraná -Dois Vizinhos -Campus, during 2004 with the objective to evaluate the induction of chitosan resistance and acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) on strawberry plants. The treatments compared the effect of chitosan (0.5; 1.0 and 2.0%) and ASM (0.0025%) in relation to control plants (distilled water only) and those with fungicides application. The chitosan treatment in all three evaluated concentrations, delayed the fruit maturation, increased the flesh firmness and titratable acidity and decreased the mass loss. It was also observed reduction in the ethylene production and in the reduced sugars and increased the total polyphenol in strawberry fruits. The chitosan treatment in all three evaluated concentrations induced greater plant resistance to diseases with effect on the reduction of the fruit rots in the post harvest by Botrytis cindered. Although, chitosan treatment in the concentration of 2% caused damage to the fruits in the post harvest increased the respiration rate and the reduced sugar. The ASM had effect on the retention of the titratable acidity and acted efficiently on the rot reduction similar to the treatment with ...
Cutting propagation of blueberry in seasons of the year with indolebutyric acid and bottom heatAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the application of concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and of bottom heat on rooting of stem cuttings of the blueberry cultivars Bluebelle, Bluegem, and Powderblue in the four seasons of the year. A completely randomized design was used, with a 4x5x2 factorial arrangement (seasons x concentrations of IBA x with and without heat), with 4 replicates and 20 stem cuttings as an experimental unit. The percentage of rooted cuttings, dead, alive and with callus, and the number and average length of the roots were evaluated. The highest rooting percentages were 57.1% for 'Bluegem' in summer, 30% for 'Bluebelle' in spring, with heating, and 63% for 'Powderblue' in summer with heating. IBA at the concentration of 2,000 mg L -1 increased the rooting of cuttings of the cultivars Bluegem and 'Powderblue'. Bottom heat increases the rooting of the cuttings harvested during autumn and winter in all cultivars, and also the cuttings harvested during summer and spring in the Bluebelle cultivar.
Organogenesis induction from internodal segments of yellow passionfruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) was obtained in a medium supplemented with 1.0-4.0 mg L-1 benzylaminopurine (BAP). Callus proliferation and adventitious shoot development were analyzed by light and scanning electron microscopy. Callus proliferation and adventitious shoots were observed simultaneously and continuously, with asynchronous development of shoots in the explants. Proliferation of callus was observed in the explant cut ends in all treatments, including the control. The results show that concentrations of 1.0 or 2.0 mg L-1 BAP gave better rate of organogenesis. Higher concentrations were efficient for the induction of adventitious buds and, were, however, detrimental for subsequent shoot development. Growth and rooting of shoots were obtained in half strength medium without growth regulators.
