A variação sazonal na composição química do óleo essencial em populações de Baccharis trimera natural e cultivada indicou a presença de três grupos de óleos em relação à origem e à fase de desenvolvimento das amostras. O primeiro incluiu amostras floridas, silvestres ou cultivadas, no período entre março-maio, contendo altas percentagens de globulol e espatulenol. No grupo II, com amostras silvestres coletadas entre junho-fevereiro, os constituintes majoritários foram o germacreno D e o (E)-cariofileno, enquanto que o grupo III incluiu amostras cultivadas entre junho-fevereiro e contendo um alto conteúdo de ledol. A análise por correlação canônica indicou que (E)-cariofileno, Mn, saturação por Al e precipitação foram fortemente correlacionados às amostras silvestres (grupo II), enquanto ledol e guaiol correlacionaram-se ao balanço químico do solo (P, K, S, Cu, Zn e saturação por bases) nas amostras cultivadas (grupo III). Ambos os óleos essenciais tem predominantemente hidrocarbonetos, embora em dois meses o conteúdo em sesquiterpenos oxigenados seja superior a 40% para ambas as amostras. As variações observadas podem estar relacionadas ao ambiente.The seasonal variations in the chemical composition of the essential oil of wild and cultivated Baccharis trimera populations indicated the presence of three clusters of oils regarding population and phenophase. The first included flowering, wild, and cultivated samples from a period of March-May, with high percentages of globulol and spathulenol. In cluster II, with wild samples collected from June-February, the major constituents were germacrene D and (E)-caryophyllene, while cluster III included cultivated samples from June-February containing a high content of ledol. The canonical correlation analysis revealed that (E)-caryophyllene, Mn, Al saturation, and precipitation were quite strongly related to wild samples (cluster II), whereas ledol and guaiol were related to chemical balance in soils (P, K, S, Cu, Zn, and base saturation) of cultivated samples (cluster III). Both essential oils have predominantly hydrocarbon compositions, although for a couple of months the oxygenated sesquiterpene content is over 40% for both samples. The observed chemovariation might be environmentally determined. Vol. 18, No. 5, 2007 popular uses in Brazil show that B. trimera is employed in the treatment of malaria, sore throat and tonsillitis, angines, anaemia, urinary inflammation and leprosy. [2][3][4] Liver-protective properties, gastrointestinal action, potential antidiabetic activity, and anti-arthritic effects have been validated, 5,6 and the anti-ophidian, relaxant, antimutagenic, antimicrobial, and antiprotozoal activities have also been reported. 7,8 Chemical studies revealed the presence of clerodanetype diterpenes, saponins and their glycosides, and several flavonoids in this species. 5,7 Carqueja oil, a commercial fragrance cited as a reminiscent of rosewood, 9 is stemdistilled from its aerial parts, with the unusual monoterpene alcohol carquejol and its acetyl ester ...

RESUMOA mini-ixora (Ixora coccinea Compacta ) é uma espécie muito apreciada para uso em paisagismo, especialmente em jardins tropicais. A propagação é feita por estaquia, no entanto, a porcentagem de enraizamento é bastante baixa. Sendo assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar substratos e ambientes para o enraizamento da mini-ixora. Foram utilizadas estacas apicais com comprimento de 10 cm, as quais foram cultivadas em dois tipos de substratos: areia e o produto comercial Plantmax ® . Utilizaram-se também três ambientes de enraizamento: câmara úmida, estufa e enraizador tradicional (telado com 50% de sombreamento). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de parcelas subdivididas, sendo três ambientes nas parcelas e dois substratos nas subparcelas. Utilizaramse 5 repetições e 10 estacas por parcela. Analisando-se todos os resultados 100 dias após a implantação do experimento, observouse que a areia proporcionou maior porcentagem de enraizamento (68%) quando comparada ao Plantmax (48%). A câmara úmida também foi o ambiente que proporcionou melhores condições para a propagação da mini-ixora com maior porcentagem de enraizamento, 98%, em relação a estufa (66%) e ao enraizador tradicional (10%). A areia e a câmara úmida também favoreceram a formação de raízes de melhor qualidade. Concluiu-se que o melhor substrato para propagação da mini-ixora foi areia devendo as estacas serem dispostas em câmara úmida. Its propagation is made by cutting, however, its rooting percentage is very low so, the aim of this work was to evaluate substrates and environments for the mini-ixora rooting. Apical cuttings with 10 cm of length were used in two substrates: sand and Plantmax ® . Three rooting environments were used: wet chamber, greenhouse and conventional rooting (shade cloth with 50% of shade). The experiment was carried out by using split plots with three different environments in the main plot and two substrates in the subplots. One also used five replications and ten cuttings per plot. Analyzing the results one hundred days after the experiment implantation one noticed that the sand had proportioned higher percentage of rooting (68%) compared to Plantmax (48%). The wet chamber also was the environment that provided better conditions for the propagation of the mini-ixora, with the highest percentage of rooting, 98%, compared to the greenhouse, 66% and to the conventional rooting, 10%. Moreover, sand and wet chamber also provided a better root quality. One concluded that the best substrate for mini-ixora propagation was sand and the cuttings should be placed in the wet chamber.

RESUMO Influência da retenção foliar na estaquia de Lavandula dentata L.A propagação vegetativa da alfazema oferece muitas vantagens comparada à propagação sexuada entre elas, homogeneidade da lavoura e produção de óleo essencial de melhor qualidade. Todavia, espécies de Lavandula têm sido propagadas principalmente por sementes e são consideradas recalcitrantes ao enraizamento na propagação por estaquia. Durante a propagação por estaquia, uma das importantes variáveis que influenciam na capacidade de enraizamento das estacas é a retenção foliar. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da retenção de folhas no enraizamento de estacas de L. dentata. Estacas apicais de L. dentata de 10 cm de comprimento, mantendo 1/3, 1/2 ou 2/3 de suas folhas, foram plantadas em substrato comercial Plantmax HT® sob nebulização intermitente. Após dois meses, médias de número de raízes, comprimento da raiz mais longa, massas fresca e seca de raízes e percentagem de sobrevivência foram avaliados. Comprimento e massa de matéria fresca das raízes foram estatisticamente superiores sob 2/3 de retenção foliar, e quando menos folhas foram mantidas, menor média de massa de matéria seca de raízes foi observada. Nas condições utilizadas, a maior retenção de folhas causou melhor desenvolvimento das raízes de estacas de L. dentata. However, Lavandula species have been propagated mostly by seeds and are said to be recalcitrant to rooting when propagated by cuttings. During cutting propagation, one of the important variables that influence the rooting capacity of cuttings is the leaf retention. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of leaf retention on rooting of L. dentata cuttings. Apical cuttings of L. dentata of 10 cm in length, keeping approximately 1/3, 1/2 or 2/3 of their leaves were planted in commercial substrate Plantmax HT® under intermittent mist. After two months, averages of root number, length of the longest root, root fresh and dry weights, and the survival percentage were evaluated. Root length and fresh weight were statistically greater with 2/3 of leaf retention and when fewer leaves were kept on the cuttings, lower means of root dry weight was observed. Under the conditions applied in this study, greater leaf retention was better for rooting of L. dentata cuttings.
