The aim of this study was to evaluate the phenolic and flavonoids contents and the antioxidant and antitumoral activity of leaf and calyx methanolic extracts from Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle) cultivated with poultry litter and organosuper under three modes of application. The total phenolic content in the each extract was determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and for aluminium chloride flavonoids. The antioxidant parameters were analyzed using a 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH . ) free radical scavenging assay. An antitumor colorimetric assay using sulforhodamine B. The highest contents of phenolic and flavonoids were observed in leaf extracts (389.98 ) demonstrou que ambos têm substâncias que podem contribuir para a ação seqüestradora de radicais livres.
PRODUCTION OF BARU (DipteryxalataVog.) SEEDLINGS UNDER THREE LEVELS OF SHADING AND FOUR TEXTURAL CLASSES OF SOILABSTRACT -It was evaluated the development of "Baru" seedlings (DipteryxalataVog.) in pots under three levels of shading and four textural classes, from March to october 2010, in Campo Grande-MS. ABSTRACTThe work was carried out in Dourados -MS, with the objective of evaluating yield and gross income in mono-cropping and inter-cropping system. Mono-croppings of 'Cultivada' roquette-R and 'Amarelo' chicory-A, in three rows (A 3 ) and four (A 4 ) rows and R 3 A 4 and R 4 A 3 intercropping systems were studied in randomized block design, with five replications. Harvests were done at 52 days after sowing and at 35 days after the first harvest. For roquette and chicory, respectively, plant heights (26.54 and 24.99 cm), number of leaves per plant (23.4 and 16.40), length (18.62 and 24.68 cm) and area of one leaf (66.73 and 177.0 cm 2 ) were not influenced by number of rows, neither by intercropping system, but results were greater for the first harvest than the second. Length of chicory leaf was significantly influenced by intercropped system and number of rows interaction, which ranged from 22.74 (R 4 ) up to 26.78 cm (R 3 A 4 ). Yield of fresh (15.66 and 11.62 t ha -1 ) and dried (1.33 and 1.00 t ha -1
Hilling and soil covering in bunching onion yield with two harvests. 'Todo Ano' bunching onion was studied and cultivated in soil without and with covering of semi-decomposed chicken manure in doses of 0 and 10 t ha -1 with 0, 1 and 2 hillings, with two harvest dates. The treatments were arranged in a 2 x 3 factorial scheme, in an experimental randomized blocks design, with five replications. Plants were harvested 64 days after planting and 40 days after the last cut (104 days after planting). The tallest (38.1 cm) and the shortest (27.2 cm) plant heights were obtained using treatments with and without covering of chicken manure and one hilling, respectively. The widest diameter of the tiller neck was 5.92 mm at 64 days after planting in with chicken manure treatments and without hilling and the smallest was 4.56 mm at 104 days after planting, in without chicken manure treatment with one hilling. The greatest yield of fresh mass was on the second harvest, in relation to the first, regardless of the studied factors. The best total income was with chicken manure treatment and with two hillings (R$ 23,511.00) because it induced a gain of R$ 2,611.00 in relation to those with one hilling, which was the worst in with chicken manure treatments, and of R$ 13,619.00 in relation to without chicken manure treatment and without hillings which induced the greatest gain in without chicken manure treatments.Key words: Allium fistulosum, organic residue, culture treatment, gross income. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of different organic residues and bokashi in the substrate formulation in the initial growth of marmelo-do-cerrado. The experiment was carried out in pots under shading (50%). The following organic residues were tested: poultry manure (PM) with rice husk base, PM with wood shavings base, Organosuper®, and castor bean meal, in a control with only soil. All treatments were assessed with and without bokashi. The experimental arrangement was a 5 × 2 factorial scheme in a randomized block design with four replicates and four plants. The greatest plant height was observed when the plants were cultivated in PM with rice husk base with bokashi. The pigment contents, photochemical efficiency, biomasses and quality of seedlings were highest in Organosuper® with bokashi. We recommend the use of Organosuper® and PM with rice husk base, both with bokashi, in the growth of marmelo-do-cerrado.
Peruvian carrot yield in intercropping systems with lettuce and beet.It was studied the monoculture of Peruvian carrot, Arracacia xanthorrhiza (Umbelliferae), beet, Beta vulgaris L. (Chenopodiaceae) and lettuce Lactuca sativa L. (Asteraceae), besides Peruvian carrot x beet and Peruvian carrot x lettuce in intercropping systems. These five treatments were established in an experimental delineation in randomized blocks, with three blocks and two internal replications each block. The fresh and dry mass of lettuce heads, aerial parts and roots of beet and aerial parts, shoots, crowns and roots of Peruvian carrot were evaluated. Diameter of lettuce head and root of beet were evaluated too. Intercropping systems were evaluated using the "land equivalent ratio" (LER) and the gross income. The three species presented higher production in monoculture at all components. Considering the total yield of roots and commercial root, respectively, the LER to intercropping systems Peruvian carrot x beet was 1.07 and 0.87, and to peruvian carrot x lettuce intercropping systems was 1.3 and 1.1. The Peruvian carrot x lettuce intercropping systems propitiated gross income of R$ 40.970,00. It was concluded that the Peruvian carrot x lettuce intercropping systems is viable.
