PRODUCTION OF BARU (DipteryxalataVog.) SEEDLINGS UNDER THREE LEVELS OF SHADING AND FOUR TEXTURAL CLASSES OF SOILABSTRACT -It was evaluated the development of "Baru" seedlings (DipteryxalataVog.) in pots under three levels of shading and four textural classes, from March to october 2010, in Campo Grande-MS. Treatments consisted of 0%, 30% and 50% levels of shade and sandy, medium clay and heavy clay soil. The experimental design was randomized blocks in split plots with repeated measures. It was used three replicates of ten plants per plot. The shading levels corresponded to the treatments and the different textural classes to the subplot. Plant height, leaf number and stem diameter were evaluated 15 days after emergence (DAE) to 195 DAE. Survival rate, leaf area and dry mass of the leaf, the stem and the roots were also estimated at 195 DAE. Higher values were observed in height and leaf area under shading condition. Plant height was 32.09 cm and 31.21 cm plant -1 , leaf area was 639.24 cm ² and 580.49 cm² for 50% and 30% shade levels respectively. In clay soil the values were higher in most traits fo...
SEEDLING GROwTH OF Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg (guavira), UNDER THREE LEVELS OF SHADE AND SUBSTRATESABSTRACT -The experiment was conducted in Campo Grande -MS from March 2008 to January 2009. The objective was to evaluate the development of seedlings of Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg. under three conditions of shading and six substrates. Treatments were three levels of shading ( 0 % , 30 % and 50 % shade ) and six substrates [ 100 % Oxisol soil clayey -LVd ( ta ) ; 100 % Oxisol soil medium texture LVd ( tm ), 75 % of LVd ( ta ) + 15 % + 10 % sand bed -of -semi-decomposed chicken -LVd ( ta ) + CF , 75 % LVd ( tm ) + 15 % + 10 % sand bed -from -semi-decomposed chicken -LVd ( tm ) + CF , 75 % LVd ( ta ) + 15 % sand + 10 % Organosuper® -LVd ( ta ) + OR , 75 % LVd ( tm ) + 15 % sand + 10% Organosuper® -LVd ( tm ) + OR ] . The experimental design was random blocks, arranged in a split-plot with repeated measures. There were three replicates and ten plants per subplot. The shading levels interfered in plant growth characteristics of the stem diameter (greater under the sun), leaf area (greater under 50 % shade) and dry weight of roots (higher under the sun). Considering the development of the seedlings, the observation that under full sun, there is the need to use higher volume irrigation a...

ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and the yield of marcela [Achyrocline satureioides (Lam.) DC.] biomass, in a monocrop system and intercropped with common plantain (Plantago major L.) as well as to determine the population of these medicinal plants in a more efficient intercrop system, in order to increase the yield and the economic return. Six treatments were established: two rows of marcela spaced 0.4 m from each other (M 0,40 ), two rows of marcela spaced 0.25 m (M 0.25 ), two rows of common plantain spaced 0.75 m (T 0.75 ), three rows of common plantain spaced 0.40 m (T 0.40 ), two rows of marcela alternated with three rows of common plantain (M 0.40 T 0.40 ), and two rows of marcela alternated with three rows of common plantain (M 0.25 T 0.75 ). The experimental design was the randomized blocks with four replications. Harvests of marcela were performed at 180, 210 and, 225 days after the transplantation. The treatments did not influence the heights of marcela and common plantain. Yields of marcela were influenced only by the harvest dates and they were significantly higher in the first and the second dates, showing fresh mass of flowers of 2.51; 2.63 and 1.28 t ha -1 , respectively, at 180, 210 and 225 days after the transplantation. Fresh mass of common plantain leaves was not influenced by the intercropping, but it was higher under T 0.40 (6.13 t ha -1 ) space than under T 0.75 (3.32 t ha -1 ). Land Equivalent Ratio of the M 0.40 T 0.40 intercropping was 1.6 and that of M 0.25 T 0.75 was 2.4. Regarding the gross income, increases of 30% were observed for the treatment M 0.40 T 0.40 and 77% for the treatment M 0.40 T 0.40 when compared to the treatment M 0.25 and 70% and 131%, respectively, when compared to T 0.40.
