Show more

“…The information of number of shoots and clump expansion is important for definition of plant spacing and other parameters for crop management. Costa et al (2006) observed positive correlation between NSC and APC (r=0.71 ** ), for all the 10 genotypes evaluated in this study, 11 months after planting. This indicates that genotypes with higher shoot emission present faster clump expansion.…”

“…Criley (1988) explained that species with grouped growth present reduced shoot emission and slow clump expansion. Plant spacings smaller than 1.5 x 3.0 m are not recommended for genotypes with grouped growth (Costa et al, 2006). Wider spacings allow for avoiding competition for light and improving production of inflorescences (Fernandes, 2000) and their quality (Ibiapaba et al, 1997).…”

“…The decreasing linear tendency of the relation HC/NP is due to the fact that in the treatments of higher density, in spite of having more tillers, many of these did not reach the productive phase. This might be attached to the lower availability of solar irradiance promoted by the higher tiller density, besides of the greater competition for nutrients, with direct interference in the production of floral stems (Costa et al, 2006).…”

“…According to the literature, plants of 'Golden Torch' heliconia can be grown under half shade and/or full sunlight (BROSCHAT; DONSELMAN, 1986;CATLEY;BROOKING, 2006;COSTA et al, 2006). However, given the results obtained, it is noted that the commercial yield of heliconias grown in full sunlight, in areas of a high incidence of solar radiation, and consequently high temperatures, such as in the region of Juazeiro, BA, does not meet a standard of quality comparable to that of plants produced under shading screens.…”
