-The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of some plant hormones on germination of Carica papaya L. seeds of the "Solo" group taken from fruits at maturity stages 3 and 5 (50% and 75% of the fruit skin showing a yellow color). Then, the seeds were subjected to treatments involving different combinations of acid 2-chloroethylphosphonic -(CEPA 0; 5 x 10 -7 and 5 x 10 -4 M), GA 3 (0; 10 and 50 mg / L) and KNO 3 (0 or 1 M), and germination was assessed at the 14th and 30th days. Seeds from fruits at maturity stage 3 showed increased germination when treated with all growth regulators tested. KNO 3 promoted a decrease in germination and in the germination speed index, especially in the seeds from stage 5. The plant hormones did not promote any increase in percentage of normal seedlings of papaya seeds. Two-Chloethylphosphonic acid (5 x 10 -4 M) and the gibberellic acid applied alone in the seeds from satge 3 promoted an increase in the number of normal seedlings 14 days after sowing.Index terms: Carica papaya, CEPA, AG, phytohormones, KNO 3 . Germinação de sementes de mamão tratadas com fitohormôniosRESUMO -Sementes de mamão têm germinação lenta e desuniforme o que tem sido atribuído à dormência pós-colheita. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar os efeitos de reguladores de crescimento na germinação de sementes de mamão grupo "Solo". As sementes foram extraídas de frutos nos estádios de maturação 3 e 5, que correspondem a 50% e mais que 75% da superfície externa amarela, respectivamente. Em seguida, foram submetidas a tratamentos constituidos por diferentes combinações de ácido 2-cloroetilfosfônico -CEPA (0; 5 x 10 -7 e 5 x 10 -4 M), GA 3 (0; 10 e 50 mg / L) e KNO 3 (0 ou 1 M), avaliando-se a germinação aos 14 e 30 dias. Verificou-se aumento da germinação das sementes no estádio 3 de maturação quando tratadas com os reguladores de crescimento testados. O KNO 3 teve efeito negativo na germinação e no índice de velocidade de germinação, principalmente nas sementes do estádio 5. Não houve efeito dos reguladores de crescimento na porcentagem final de plântulas normais. O CEPA (5 x 10 -4 M) e as giberelinas empregadas isoladamente promoveram aumento do número de plântulas normais das sementes no estádio 3, aos 14 dias após a semeadura.

-Sarcotesta, a mucilaginous layer found in papaya seeds, negatively affects the germination of papaya seeds and its removal has been manually performed. The use of sodium hypochlorite can be an alternative to manual removal of sarcotesta in papaya seeds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different active chlorine concentrations (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8%) during 24 hours of immersion, in different proportions (10:200, 50:200, 100:200, 200:200, 300:200, 400:200, 500:200 and 600:200) of seeds number and solution volume (mL) to identify the best combination for an effective remotion of sarcotesta to improve the germination process. Germination test and first count were performed. A completely randomized design with four replications was used. Regression analysis was performed for quantitative variables with significant effect by F-test at 5% probability. Papaya seeds immersion in the ratio of 10 seeds per 200 mL of NaOCl solution (10:200, i.e. 20 mL of solution per seed), at a 2% sodium hypochlorite concentration during 24 hours of imbibition, can be used as an alternative for sarcotesta remotion for freshly harvested papaya seeds, because besides the effective remotion of sarcotesta, this technique improves the germination process.Index terms: Carica papaya, seed technology, NaOCl.Proporção de sementes e solução de hipoclorito de sódio no processo germinativo de sementes de mamão RESUMO -A sarcotesta, camada mucilaginosa presente nas sementes de mamão, afeta negativamente o seu processo germinativo e sua retirada tem sido realizada manualmente. O uso do hipoclorito de sódio pode ser uma alternativa à remoção manual da sarcotesta. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de diferentes concentrações de cloro ativo (0, 2, 4, 6 e 8%), durante 24 horas de imersão, em diferentes proporções (10:200, 50:200, 100:200, 200:200, 300:200, 400:200, 500:200 e 600:200) entre sementes (número) e volume (mL) da solução de hipoclorito de sódio respectivamente, visando identificar a melhor combinação para a retirada efetiva da sarcotesta de maneira a contribuir no processo germinativo. Foram avaliados o teste de germinação e a primeira contagem. Empregou-se o delineamento estatístico inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Para as variáveis quantitativas, que apresentaram efeito significativo pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade, foi realizada a análise de regressão. A imersão de sementes de mamão na proporção de 10 sementes por 200 mL de solução de NaOCl (10:200, ou seja, 20 mL de solução por semente), na concentração de 2% de cloro ativo por 24 horas, pode ser uma alternativa para a retirada da sarcotesta em sementes recém-colhidas, pois, além da retirada efetiva da sarcotesta, favorece a germinação.Termos para indexação: Carica papaya, tecnologia de sementes, NaOCl.
