INFLUENCE OF FRUIT TYPE, SPECIFIC SEED WEIGHT AND STORAGE ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF PAPAYA SEEDS OF THE FORMOSA GROUPABSTRACT -The present study evaluated the influence of the fruit type, specific seed weight and storage on the germination and vigor of papaya seeds of the Solo group. After harvest the fruits were classified as small, medium or large. The seeds were extracted manually, washed and placed to dry in the shade. After drying, the seeds were processed in a pneumatic machine to separate light materials and also through a gravity table machine, where the seeds were separated into three classes: light, intermediate and heavy. The seeds were placed in paper bags, stored in a cold chamber and evaluated for germination and vigor (First Count of GT, Seedling Size and Accelerated Aging test) at the start of the experiment and after 3 and 6 months of storage. The best germination and vigor results were found when heavy seeds were used. High seed quality was preserved until the third month of storage.
GERMINATION OF JARACATIÁ SEEDS SUBMITTED TO DIFFERENT METHODS OF SARCOTESTA REMOVAL ABSTRACT -The objective of this work was to verify the effect of different removal methods of the sarcotesta of Jaracatia spinosa (Aubl.) A. DC. seeds on the germination percentage, (SGI) Speed of Germination
Os frutos, produzidos no inverno e no verão, da cv Golden (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 days) and after storage of the seeds for 30 days at 15ºC. The experimental design used was a completely randomized arrangement in 2x7x2 factorial scheme with four replications. The treatments of the factorial consisted of the combination of two fruit harvest times (September and January), eight rest periods of the fruits (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 days) and two periods of evaluation of seed storage (0 and 30 days). There were variations in the humidity and dry matter of the seeds during the rest and harvesting of the fruits. The best vigour of the seeds occurred around 12 days of fruit rest, independent of seed storage. The rest period of the fruit contributed to increase the seeds germination, to the harvested fruits in January the maximum germination of the seeds was evident at the rest period inferior (9 to 12 days) to the fruits harvested in September (13 days).
INFLUENCE OF MOISTURE CONTENT, PACKAGING AND STORAGE ENVIRONMENT ON YELLOW PASSION FRUIT SEED QUALITYABSTRACT -This experiment was designed to verify the influence on yellow passion fruit seed quality of 8 and 10% moisture content (wet basis), package type ( flexible aluminum pouch and paper bag) and the storage environment: laboratory room, temperature varying between 21-29ºC and relative humidity between 50-80%, and two controlled conditions, 18ºC/24%RH and 4ºC/ 60%RH. The seeds placed in the different packaging were stored in the three different environments for bimonthly evaluation. The following determinations were carried out: seed moisture content, germination and the vigor determined by the accelerated aging test. The tests indicated that seeds conditioned with 10% moisture content presented a drastic reduction in germination, when placed in impermeable packaging in laboratory room conditions, while the treatment with temperature of 4ºC and 60% RH showed the best results to preserve the seed viability, regardless of the type of packaging.
