Management with synthetic fungicides in the control of phytopathogens in viticulture can cause environmental pollution and contamination with residues in grape cluster. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of aqueous cinnamon extract on the in vitro and in vivo control of Plasmopara viticola on catalase activity on ‘Isabel Precoce’ vines. The treatments used were: aqueous cinnamon extract (ACE) at concentrations of 0.12; 0.25 and 0.50% plus 0.25% vegetable oil (VO); being the standard treatments VO (0.25%), Bordeaux mixture 1:1:100 (lime: copper sulfate: water) and water only. The germination tests of P. viticola sporangia were carried out in incubation periods of 4 and 24 hours of the pathogen in contact with the treatments. In addition, the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and the activity of the catalase enzyme were estimated in plants grown in the greenhouse. The results indicated that the treatments with 0.12%, 0.25% and 0.5% ACE with VO reduced the germination of P. viticola. In relation to the AUDPC, the 0.25% dose of VO associated ACE reduced 65% and 67% in leaf discs and vines in the greenhouse, respectively. This fact is related to the induction of CAT activity provided by this dose in the periods of 2HBA, 2HAI and 4HAI. Thus, it can be said that the ACE associated with VO can be used to control the downy mildew of the ‘Isabel Precoce’ vine.

The biochemical defense mechanisms of amphibians involve cutaneous secretions of bioactive molecules with antimicrobial activity. This study evaluated the in vitro activity of methanolic extracts from cutaneous secretions of two amphibian species of the Bufonidae family, Rhaebo guttatus and Rhinella marina, in the control of the phytopathogens Fusarium udum, Fusarium solani, Colletotrichum truncatum, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizoctonia solani, Macrophomina phaseolina, and Calonectria pseudometrosideri. The R. guttatus extract decreased the mycelial growth of F. udum, F. solani, A. flavus, and M. phaseolina at some tested concentrations. The R. marina extract decreased the mycelial growth of C. truncatum at the concentration of 0.5 mg mL-¹, and inhibited the mycelial growth of A. flavus at concentrations of 0.1 and 0.5 mg mL-¹, which was similar to the inhibition by the positive control. The R. marina extract also decreased the microsclerotia production by R. solani at concentrations of 0.2 and 0.3 mg mL-¹. In addition, the extracts inhibited conidial sporulation and germination at varying degrees. The inhibition of appressoria formation in C. truncatum by the R. guttatus and R. marina extracts was 85-99% and 63-100%, respectively. Our results demonstrated that treatment with extracts from R. guttatus and R. marina cutaneous secretions showed antifungal activity against the studied phytopathogens.

Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret (feijoa) é uma frutífera nativa do sul do Brasil, com elevado potencial para cultivo, principalmente para agricultores familiares, tendo perspectivas positivas quanto à adaptação se comparada às demais frutíferas comerciais. A principal doença da cultura é a antracnose causada pelo fungo Colletotrichum spp., que não possui produtos fitossanitários registrados para seu controle. O objetivo desse trabalho foi verificar a atividade antifúngica in vitro de diferentes fermentados botânicos sobre o desenvolvimento do fitopatógeno Colletotrichum fructicola. Foi avaliada inibição do crescimento micelial in vitro com a medição do diâmetro perpendicular para determinar a porcentagem de inibição de crescimento fúngico em triplicata. Os tratamentos foram constituídos dos fermentados botânicos de Schinus terebinthifolia, Psisum sativum, Tagetes minuta, Trifolium pratense, Ilex paraguarienses, Vernonanthura tweediana, Prunus myrtifolia e Amaranthus hybridus avaliados nas concentrações de 10, 20 e 40% e testemunha. O principal composto fenólico identificado via HPLC foi ácido gálico a partir do fermentado de S. terebinthifolia. Foi possível verificar que o fermentado de S. terebinthifolia na concentração de 40% inibiu totalmente o desenvolvimento de Colletotrichum fructicola. Os demais fermentados avaliados neste trabalho não demonstraram efeito satisfatório sobre este fungo fitopatogênico.
