Critical thinking and STEM career perception are important in 21 th century and STEM education is necessary to promote middle school students' critical thinking skills and STEM perception. In this research we aim to research the effects of engineering design-based STEM education on the middle school students' critical thinking skills and STEM perceptions. In this case study, STEM activities were developed according the subjects of "Reflections in Mirror" and "Absorption of Light" and prepared activity booklet. The activities implemented with 30 seventh grade middle school students in Istanbul province for five weeks (20 course hours). While student solved the design problems in the housing estate and designed "Safe and Eco-Friendly House Estate", the teacher guided students in this process. To solve the problem/ground design challenge, they did five mini designs and five researches/experiments in six teams of five students. The quantitative data were performed California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI) and STEM Perception Test as pre and post-test and analysed statically. Semi-structured interviews were performed to support quantitative data and analysed descriptively. STEM education developed students' critical thinking skills and STEM perceptions positively and also it had indirect effects on their career awareness.

ÖZ Son zamanlarda teknolojide meydana gelen gelişimle birlikte eğitim sistemimizde birtakım köklü değişiklikler olmuştur. Bu değişimlerden biri, Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı ve Ulaştırma Bakanlığı işbirliği ile gerçekleştirilen, 2010-2011 eğitim öğretim yılında pilot uygulamasına başlanılan FATİH projesidir. Eğitim sisteminin kalitesinin arttırılması amacıyla geliştirilen bu tür uygulamaların başarıya ulaşabilmeleri adına öğretmenlerin projeye bakış açıları önemlidir. Bu noktadan hareketle bu çalışmanın amacı; öğretmenlerin FATİH projesi hakkında görüşlerini belirlemektir. Projede yaşanan sorunlar ve öğretmenlerin bu sorunlara yönelik çözüm önerileri de incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma nitel araştırma desenlerinden biri olan durum çalışması kapsamında yürütülmüştür. Gönüllülük esasına göre Trabzon ilindeki bir lise, özel durum olarak seçilmiş ve farklı branşlardan dört öğretmenle görüşme yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda; öğretmenlerin FATİH projesine bakış açılarının olumlu olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Teachers' opinions on increasing opportunities and improving technology movement (FATİH) ABSTRACT Along with the recent advancements of technology certain substantial changes have happened in our educational system. One of these changes is FATİH Project which is started in 2010-2011.The pilot scheme of the project has been performed with the cooperation of Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Transportation. The teachers' opinions are significantly important for the success of such applications aiming to increase the qulity level of education system. From this point of view, the purpose of this study is to determine teachers' opinions. Within this pursuit, problems in project and teachers' solutions for these problems have also been investigated. This study is carried out within the scope of case study which is one of qualitative research patterns. On the basis of willingness, one high school was chosen in Trabzon city and four teachers were interviewed. The data acquired from the interviews were analyzed with content analysis method. As a result of the research work; it is observed that teachers' point of view is positive towards FATİH project. That teachers come across problems with finding suitable instructional materials and that available e-content is insufficient are among important findings.

Öz: Nitel-durum çalışması olarak yürütülen bu çalışmanın amacı araştırmacılar tarafından yürütülen "Mühendislik Tasarım Temelli Fen Eğitimi (MTTFE) için uygulamalı örnek etkinlikler atölyesi ne gönüllü olarak katılan öğretmenlerin MTTFE hakkındaki görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. atılımcı görüş formu ile toplanan nitel veriler içerik analizi ile incelenmiştir. Ayrıca bulguları desteklemek amacıyla araştırmacı deneyimlerine de yer verilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenler MTTFE'ye yönelik olumsuz düşünceler belirtmiş olsalar da genellikle olumlu görüş sunmuşlardır. Öğretmenler belirttikleri olumsuzluklardan dolayı tereddüt yaşasalar da, sınıflarında fen öğretirken MTTFE etkinliklerini uygulamak istediklerini belirtmişlerdir. Öğretmenlerin tereddütlerini giderebilmek adına mühendislik tasarım temelli fen eğitimine yönelik hizmet öncesi ve hizmet içi eğitim yapılmalıdır. Ayrıca çalışay sonunda öğretmenlerin çoğu öneriler sunmuştur ve bu önerilerinin gerçekleşmesi durumunda ülkemizde MTTFE gerçekleşebileceğini belirtmişlerdir.Anahtar Kelimeler: STEM eğitimi, mühendislik tasarım temelli fen eğitimi, mühendislik tasarım süreci, öğretmen görüşleri.

Bir öğretmeninin fen, teknoloji, matematik ve mühendislik (STEM) eğitimi ile ilgili kendini geliştirmek üzere bir uzmana başvurması sonucu ortaya çıkan bu eylem araştırmasının amacı öğretmen ve öğrencilerinin süreçteki deneyimlerini paylaşarak benzer ihtiyacı olan öğretmen ve araştırmacılara örnek bir uygulama sunmaktır. Araştırmacılar öğretmenle STEM eğitimi konusunda bilgi ve deneyimler paylaşılmış ve 3. sınıf fen bilimleri dersi "Duyu Organları ve Görevleri" konusunda STEM etkinliği hazırlanmış ve uygulaması için öğretmene tanıtmıştır. Öğretmen, uzmanlar rehberliğinde, etkinliği 9 hafta boyunca 26 öğrenci ile uygulamıştır. Çalışmanın çıktılarının değerlendirilmesi için öğretmen ve öğrencilerin görüşleri alınmıştır. Öğrenci görüşleri 12 likert ve 3 açık uçlu sorudan oluşan süreç değerlendirme formu ile alınmıştır. Ayrıca her bir öğrenci için bu formdaki likert sorular öğretmen tarafından da doldurulmuştur. Likert sorular istatistiki olarak analiz edilirken, açık uçlu sorular içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Öğretmenin sürece ilişkin değerlendirmeleri için yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir ve betimsel analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda öğretmen STEM eğitiminin uygulanması konusunda kaygılarının azaldığını, sadece öğrencilerinin değil kendisinin de süreçte eğlendiğini ve öğrencilerinin duyu organlarını öğrendiklerini belirtmiştir. Bu eylem araştırmasının öğretmenin mesleki gelişimine katkısı olduğu, öğretmen ve öğrencilerin sürece yönelik olumlu görüşleri olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.

ÖzBu araştırmada, bir STEM etkinliğinin geliştirilmesi ve birinci sınıf fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarına uygulanma sürecinin sunulması amaçlanmaktadır. Etkinlik geliştirme sürecine problem ve konunun belirlenmesi ile başlanmıştır. Etkinlik konusu belirlenirken Genel Kimya Laboratuvarı II ders içeriğinde yer alan ve hâlihazırda uygulanan deneyler kapsamında STEM eğitim yaklaşımı ile mühendislik tasarım sürecinin işletilebildiği, günlük yaşam ile ilişkinin kurulabildiği, güvenlik, etik ve sağlık konusunda önlemlerin alınabileceği durumlar göz önünde bulundurulmuştur. Ayrıca bu konunun derste ayrılan süreye, öğrenci seviyesine ve mevcut fiziki donanıma uygunluğuna da dikkat edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda 'kimyasal reaksiyonlar: maddenin değişimi' konusu uygulamaları kapsamında yürütülen "Aspirin eldesi" deneyi konu olarak seçilmiştir. Günlük yaşam bağlamı kurulması amacıyla aspirinin içeriği ve faydaları araştırılmış ve STEM etkinliği hazırlanmaya geçilmiştir. Etkinliğin hazırlanması sürecinde mühendislik tasarım süreci aşamaları kullanılmıştır. Hazırlanan etkinlik, uygulanmadan önce STEM eğitimi alanında çalışmaları olan beş uzmanın görüşüne sunulmuştur ve uzmanların görüşlerine göre düzenlenmiştir. Bu şekilde son hali verilen etkinlik 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Doğu Karadeniz'de bir devlet üniversitesinin eğitim fakültesi fen bilgisi öğretmenliği bölümünde Genel Kimya Laboratuvarı II dersine kayıtlı olan ve çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 32 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Tüm öğretim uygulamaları toplamda 10 ders saati (10x50 dakika) sürmüştür. For this, the process has been started with the determination of problem and topic first. In this study, 30 hours of training were given to 15 science teachers to realize STEM integration in science courses and it was aimed to examine the problem statement developed by science teachers who have STEM education. The model of the research is a holistic case study. The study group of the research is composed of 15 science teachers. Problem statements (documents) that the teachers developed constitute the primary data source of this research. Field notes were used as supporting data sources. Data analyzed by descriptive (documents, field notes) and content analysis (field notes) techniques. It has been determined that the engineering design problem, prepared by only one teacher, can be accepted in all elements, and that it is capable of integrating mathematics and technology disciplines and achieving learning outcome in science courses. It has been found that none of the problem statements prepared by problem-based learning to perform STEM-focused activities in science courses are inappropriate for all elements.

Problem Statement: It is unknown how Science Teacher Candidates (STCs) recognize measuring instruments and indicate units that STCs will teach to their students, which they will constantly come across when they become teachers. Determining this case is important because it is believed that the results of this study will support the implementations that provide them with the ability to improve their measuring skills during their undergraduate programs.
