When 1-bromoethynyl-l-cyclohexanol was treated similarly with pyridine and thionyl chloride a mixture of 1bromoethynyl-1 -cyclohexene and 1 -(chlorobromovinyl) -1cyclohexene was formed. From 23 g. of the hexanol, there was produced 4 g. of product distilling at 120-130°( 34 mm.) and 4.5 g. at 130-140°. Summary l-a-Chlorovinjd-1-cyclohexene was prepared by the action of thionyl chloride on ethynylcyclohexanol in pyridine and some ethynyl-cyclohexene was obtained also.1-Ethynyl-lchlorocyclohexane and cyclohexylidenevinyl chloride were proved absent.1 -Phenylethynyl-1 -cyclohexanol, 1 -chloroethynyl-1 -cyclohexanol and 1 -bromoethynyl-1 -cyclohexanol underwent more dehydration than chlorination by thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentachloride.1-Ethyl-l-chlorocyclohexane was prepared readily from 1-ethyl-l-cyclohexanol but 1-phenyl-1-cyclohexanol resisted chlorination.Evanston, III.
be in considerable degree interpreted on the assumption that the initial process is the attachment of one water molecule to each polar aminoacid side chain. The data also indicate that peptide carbonyl and imido groups usually do not bind water, because of their mutual interaction by hydrogen-bond formation, but that water is bound by carbonyl groups which are not coupled by hydrogen bonds with imido groups. In salmin, in which most of the amino-acid residues are polar, these polar residues codperate to attach one water molecule jointly to two polar groups in the initial process of hydration.
Alkylation of Paraffins with Olefins 913 aldehyde, but with substances, such as uric acid, in which the oxidation products are of a more complex nature. From the data here presented and the work of previous workers we suggest the following scheme for the oxidation of amino acids by sodium hypobromite. This embodies Langheld's, Dakin's and Goldschmidt's results, with certain modifications based on our own experiments.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
