Catalytic Dehydration of 1-Hexanol and 1-Octanol

Abstract: be in considerable degree interpreted on the assumption that the initial process is the attachment of one water molecule to each polar aminoacid side chain. The data also indicate that peptide carbonyl and imido groups usually do not bind water, because of their mutual interaction by hydrogen-bond formation, but that water is bound by carbonyl groups which are not coupled by hydrogen bonds with imido groups. In salmin, in which most of the amino-acid residues are polar, these polar residues codperate to attach… Show more

“…1,2 The dehydration of octanol over alumina goes as far back as 1945 when Raman studies were conducted during the reaction. 35 More recently, Kim et al have shown a successful dehydration of 1-octanol over Al 2 O 3 at 300 °C and a liquid hourly space velocity of 7 h −1 , reaching an octanol conversion of 65% with a high selectivity toward 1octene over 50%. 36 They improved the selectivity further to 95% with almost full conversion at 400 °C by introducing a barium impregnation of 2 wt % to the alumina catalyst.…”

“…Due to the aforementioned market of octene for the production of LLDPE, the dehydration of octanol has been investigated in depth. , The dehydration of octanol over alumina goes as far back as 1945 when Raman studies were conducted during the reaction .
