PRODUCTION CYCLE OF RASPBERRY CULTIVARS (Rubus idaeus) UNDER DRASTIC PRUNING IN THE SOUTH OF MINAS GERAIS CONDICTIONSABSTRACT -The production cycle knowledge allows a more detailed description of a phenological stage enabling increases in the fruit production and quality. The cultivars chosen Polana, Batum, Autumn Bliss, Heritage and Golden Bliss were studied under edafoclimatic condictions of southern of Minas Gerais state from the pruning until the fruit production and development on the primary and secondary stems, and apical gemstones. Stems that sprouted after winter pruning were marked and followed for the beginning and at the end of the reproductive phases. For the determination of the curve of fruit development, samples were taken weekly from the beginning of fruit formation until harvest. It was observed that there was anticipation and prolongation of harvesting time, and there were also two growth spurts of shoots from the root. The cultivars differed in their production cycle behavior in primary and secondary stems. The apical gemstones showed low capacity for budding and flowering. Fruits of different cultivars displayed simple sigmoidal growth pattern.
No Sul de Minas, as framboeseiras apresentam boa adaptação, principalmente a framboesa-negra (18,2 Mg ha-1), a framboesa amarela (5 Mg ha-1) e a framboesa vermelha 'Batum' (4,4 Mg ha-1).
This study aimed to estimate the parameters related to the genetic control of the physical characteristics of the fruits, oil content, and oil yield, and to proceed with the selection of macaw palm accessions. Forty-four macaw palm accessions of the active germplasm collection of the Federal University of Viçosa were collected for the evaluation of epicarp dry matter, pulp dry matter, endocarp dry matter, kernel dry matter, oil content, and oil yield. Narrow-sense individual heritability estimates were considered as of intermediate magnitude. The coefficient of repeatability and the accuracy in family selection was of high magnitude. Oil yield per plant presented the highest coefficient of individual genetic variation. Five different accessions contributed to the ten first individuals selected by the individual BLUP. The Mulamba and Mock's rank index allowed classifying the accessions in a sequence favorable to selection.
The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of lemon balm intercropping with yarrow on the vegetative growth, photosynthetic pigments and essential oil contents as well as the chemical composition of essential oils. Accordingly, the lemon balm and yarrow monocroppings were compared to the intercropping of both species. The plants were cultivated for 120 days under field conditions. The experimental design followed randomized blocks with seven repetitions. Growth was assessed through the accumulation of shoot dry matter and through the leaf area. The photosynthetic pigment content was set based on the fully expanded leaves from five plants in each treatment. The essential oil was extracted through the hydrodistillation of the lemon balm leaves and yarrow leaflets dehydrated in a forced ventilation oven at 40°C. The chemical analyses of the essential oils were performed using GC-FID and GC-MS. Intercropping showed a reduction of vegetative growth. However, intercropping increased the lemon balm essential oil content. On the other hand, these parameters did not change in yarrow. There were variations in the level of chemical constituents in lemon balm and yarrow essential oils, which were more evident in the major constituents.
The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the vegetative growth of Mentha piperita L. cultivated under different water availability, as well its influence in content, chemical composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of its essential oil. Plants were propagated by mother plants microcutting and scions were transplanted to 5 L pots with soil and cattle manure. Afterward, were kept at field capacity for 30 days and under treatment for 40 days. It was treated with different levels of water deficit treatments: (T1): 100 of field capacity (FC); (T2): 80 of FC; (T3): 60 of FC; (T4) 40 of FC with 5 blocks. Vegetative growth was evaluated by dry matter contents of all part of plants and by root/aerial rate. The essential oil of the leaves was extracted by hydrodistillation, analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS and in vitro antioxidant potential was evaluated. A significant decrease in the dry matter of leaves and stems accompanied with a decrease in the roots dry matter was observed with an increase in the water stress. Quantitative chemical differences were observed in the chemical composition of the essential oil, according water availability. Total antioxidant activity showed a gradual increase as water stress progressed.
