The article substantiates the social nature of the dichotomy of contemporary postmodern society through the analysis of the social content of possible forms of social activity. Using the terminology of S. Deetz’s theory of communication, the authors substantiate that today in Ukrainian society there are three main forms of social activity - consent; involvement; participation. The dominance of a certain form of social dialogue in society determines the nature, dynamics, direction, spatial and temporal social activity limitations. The results of an empirical study on the distribution of forms of social activity in contemporary Ukrainian society are presented. Emphasis is placed on the fact that one of the conditions for reducing the social destructiveness of postmodern society is the value context of social dialogue as a manifestation of social activity that regulates relations between social groups. In postmodern society, there is a multiplicity of variations of social interaction. The social nature of the constructive social activity of contemporary Ukrainian society “lies” in the plane of “social interaction - social dialogue - social trust”. Effective (constructive) social interaction between certain social groups (especially those which have the ability and desire to influence social processes actively) leads to the formation of new social relations, that, in turn, form opportunities for social dialogue between them. This dialogue influences the evolution (progressive reforming) of the structural organization of society, which is a prerequisite for the stability of society, decreasing its potential social destructiveness (especially in a situation of social challenges).
Modern academic librarians strive to qualitatively meet the information needs of their users. At the same time, librarians seek to take an active part in the organization and conduct of research. In this paper, we present the successful experience of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (Ukraine) in working on the wiki project "Dictionary of Borys Grinchenko" which uses elements of digital humanities, citizen science and gamification. The main aim of this project is to involve university students in getting acquainted with the Dictionary of the famous Ukrainian ethnographer and ethnographer Borys Grinchenko . During the project, students compete among themselves who will add the most quality explanations and visualizations of the Grinchenko's Dictionary words to the University wiki portal. The results show that this project not only promotes the development of university web resources but also promotes cultural heritage, develop successful team building, helps to the involvement of students in research activities. This experience will be useful for other academic libraries looking for ways to join the digital humanities and can be replicated in small, low-budget academic institutions. Rapid progress in the field of publishing scientific journals, on the one hand, facilitates all editorial processes, and on the other hand, increases the risks of losing the uniqueness of a scientific article. The growing need of scientific journals for supporting tools that would, on the one hand, protect journal editions from unscrupulous authors who resort to the practice of scientific plagiarism, and on the other hand, instill in authors a sense of responsibility for the texts they send. The purpose is to reveal the problems of using text similarity scanners - plagiarism checking services in the editorial process of scientific journals of Ukraine, to verify by empirical research the theoretical hypothesis about the existence of certain types of practices of academic plagiarism in the Ukrainian scientific environment. Survey of editors of professional editions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has been conducted using the CAWI method with the help of the Google forms functionality. The sample consisted of 99 experts (editors of category “A” journals – 8%; editors of category “B” journals – 92%), who represented the general population on the basis of “journal category”, which ensured the validity of the results. The opinion of the editors of scientific journals on the use of text similarity scanners in the editorial process has been determined. The most widely used services are Unicheck and Antiplagiat, which, according to respondents, most simply and concretely solve the problem of plagiarism and reuse of text. It has been identified that publishing houses that publish journals with international distribution and those indexed by the scientometric platforms Scopus and WoS (category “A” according to the national classification) mostly use similarity scanners. Publishing houses operating only within Ukraine, the journals of which are not represented in prestigious scientometric platforms, often ignore plagiarism detection software altogether and rely solely on the opinion of reviewers and editors. It is shown that the practice of using text similarity scanners, although entrenched in the Ukrainian scientific and publishing space, is still not widespread enough and does not cover the vast majority of scientific journals that rely only on traditional forms of reviewing scientific texts.
The article deals with publication activity as a part of the set of scientometric indicators used to assess national scientific potential. The international and national ratings of the publishing activity, in which the Ukrainian universities are involved, have been presented and analyzed, as well as with the help of some analytical and search tools of the scientific platform Web of Science, the publishing activity of the leading universities of the country have been studied. The dynamics of inclusion of Ukrainian higher education institutions in SCImago Institutional Ranking has been monitored and their most significant achievements have been determined by major groups of rating indicators – “Innovation”, “Social Impact” and “Research”. Identity of SCImago rating and all-Ukrainian Osvita.ua rating has been demonstrated for Ukrainian universities. The methodology and principles of CWTS Leiden Ranking and National Taiwan University Ranking, which are based on Web of Science, have been reviewed. With input from the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Web of Science tool the publication activity of Ukrainian scientific organizations on the whole has been identified, and by means of “Result Analysis” tools the 2019 scientific periodicals have been identified where the researchers from four largest educational institutions in our country were published. It has been concluded that among Ukrainian scientists the trend towards increasing the total number of publications in periodicals with a low level of scientific influence and citation, as well as with their general misunderstanding of the importance of scientific and publication collaborations with researchers from foreign universities is still prevailing. Suggestions have been formulated to increase publication activity and to represent better the university's scientific results in international citation indices.
The article examines the level of mastery by the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University students, master's students, postgraduates, academic staff and researchers of the digital tools allowing to check the uniqueness of academic texts. The anti-plagiarism software most popular among the respondents was identified; its advantages and shortcomings, as well as the difficulties that arise when using it were analyzed. Proposals on how to increase the level of mastery of skills in self-regulation of educational and scientific activity, in particular writing own academic texts, for all participants in the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University educational and scientific process were developed. Based on results of the survey, an algorithm for detecting the absence/presence of academic plagiarism in the student research papers submitted to the Ukrainian Competition of Student Research Papers in the Fields of Knowledge and Specialties was developed and launched, indicating the responsibility of all actors of the process for observance of the principles of academic integrity.
