Objectives: To specify the ritual of teaching basic nursing procedures, analyze the implications of their use and discuss their pertinence, in the face of the current contexts for teaching and for practice. Methods: A historical-social study of rituals incorporated in the teaching method of nursing theory-practice, in Portugal and Brazil. As primary sources, we used written documents (letters, brochures, manuals) and photographs, and as secondary sources: textbooks, master's theses, doctoral dissertations and journal articles. Results: The description, analysis, interpretation and synthesis exposed the reader to a journey through the history and rituals, and changes that have occurred in nursing and health education. The simulation was discussed in terms of its pertinence in the face of the ethical, safety and quality requirements in health care, technological advances, and changes in environments and contexts of clinical practice. Conclusion: The use of simulation meets the needs and the current context of education for theory-practice. Objective: to develop and validate an educational digital video on changing the dressing of short-term, non-cuffed, non-tunneled central venous catheters in hospitalized adult patients. Method: this is a descriptive, methodological study based on Paulo Freire's assumptions. The development of the script and video storyboard were based on scientific evidence, on the researchers' experience, and that of nurse experts, as well as on a virtual learning environment. Results: the items related to the script were approved by 97.2% of the nurses and the video was approved by 96.1%. Conclusion: the educational instrument was considered to be appropriate and we believe it will contribute to professional training in the nursing field, the updating of human resources, focusing on the educational process, including distance education. We believe it will consequently improve the quality of care provided to patients with central venous catheters.
Objectivesto identify the agreement of faculty affiliated with Brazilian higher education institutions about the global health competencies needed for undergraduate nursing students' education and whether these competencies were covered in the curriculum offered at the institution where they were teaching.Methodexploratory-descriptive study, involving 222 faculty members who answered the Brazilian version of the "Questionnaire on Core Competencies in Global Health", made available electronically on the website Survey Monkey.Resultsparticipants predominantly held a Ph.D. (75.8%), were women (91.9%) and were between 40 and 59 years of age (69.3%). The mean and standard deviation of all competencies questioned ranged between 3.04 (0.61) and 3.88 (0.32), with scores for each competency ranging from 1 "strongly disagree" to 4 "strongly agree". The results demonstrated the respondents' satisfactory level of agreement with the global health competencies.Conclusionsthe study demonstrated a high mean agreement level of the nursing faculty from Brazilian HEI with the global health competencies in the questionnaire. The curricula of the HEI where they teach partially address some of these. The competencies in the domain "Globalization of health and health care" are the least addressed.
RESUMO:Pesquisa exploratória e descritiva para verificar a existência e fatores relacionados a padronização do cateterismo urinário, em uma cidade do interior do estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista, mediante aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto. Das nove instituições hospitalares entrevistadas, 100% possuem o procedimento de cateterismo urinário padronizado. As instituições apresentam diferenças nos procedimentos propostos, o que interfere de maneira positiva e negativa na sua padronização e coloca em dúvida se o padronizado é o que está sendo realizado. Conclui-se que existe a necessidade de se reavaliar a padronização proposta, com discussões interdisciplinares, verificar se o proposto está sendo realizado e buscar estratégias de treinamento e ensino passíveis de aplicação. URINARY CATHETERIZATION: FACILITIES AND DIFFICULTIES RELATED TO ITS STANDARDIZATIONABSTRACT: This descriptive and exploratory study aimed to verify the existence of factors related to the standardization of urinary catheters in a city in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Data was collected through interviews after approval obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing. Of the nine hospital institutions who took part in the study, 100% have a standardized procedure for urinary catheterization. The institutions present differences in the proposed procedure, which interferes positively and negatively in its standardization and places doubt upon whether the standardized procedure is indeed being carried out. This study concludes that there is a need to reevaluate the proposed standardization, with interdisciplinary discussions to verify if the proposal is being carried out and to search for applicable training and teaching strategies.DESCRIPTORS: Urinary catheterization. Objective:to evaluate the conformity of care practices of the nursing team during the administration of drugs through central vascular catheter. Method:a descriptive, prospective, observational study conducted in an Intensive Care Unit. The non-probabilistic intentional sample consisted of 3402 observations of drug administrations in patients with central vascular catheters. The previously validated collection instrument was constructed based on the Guideline for Prevention of Intravascular catheter-related infections. Data was collected through direct observations of nursing practices performed by the nursing team. The analysis used analytical, descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test). Results:a total of 3402 procedures of drug administrations were observed. Female nursing technicians performed the highest number of actions. In none of the procedures did the professional perform all necessary actions. 0.2% of drug administrations were preceded by hand hygiene and 1.3% by disinfection of the multidose vial, ampoule or injectors. Conclusion:the practice evaluated was classified as undesirable. Failure to achieve the desired conformity was probably due to the low adherence of professionals to the practice of hand hygiene and disinfection of materials, injectors and connectors.
RESUMOO presente trabalho visa descrever os passos para desenvolvimento de um curso e sua estrutura em ambiente virtual de aprendizagem Moodle. Para tanto, a pesquisa consistiu na aplicação de conteúdos de enfermagem para oferecimento de curso online em workshop internacional para grupo de estudantes de graduação e licenciatura em enfermagem do Brasil e de Portugal. Durante a pesquisa foram registradas etapas distintas, desde o planejamento do curso passando pela construção e transformação dos conteúdos, até a disponibilização aos estudantes. As atividades interativas e conteúdos foram elaborados pelos professores com participação de equipe técnica. No trabalho são apresentados procedimentos específi cos e papéis a serem desempenhados por professores, especialistas, estudantes e técnicos. Os resultados do desenvolvimento e oferecimento do curso online apontaram alguns aspectos a serem aperfeiçoados no processo de trabalho, no formato dos conteúdos e na utilização das ferramentas. ABSTRACT This study describes the steps for developing a course and its structure in the Virtual Learning Environment Moodle. It consisted of an application of nursing content offered in an online course included in an international workshop directed to a group of nursing students from a bachelor and a teaching diploma program in Brazil and Portugal. Distinct stages were identifi ed during the study: planning, construction and transformation of content as well as availability of such content to students. The interactive activities and context were developed by professors with the participation of the technical team. The specifi c procedures and roles performed by professors, specialists, students and technicians are presented. The results of the development and offering of the online course appointed some aspects to be improved in the work process such as the format of content and use of tools.
